His mother, the crown princess, has been actively helping him cover this all up. Because of her position, she had been given advance notice he was being investigated. So she headed over to his apartment and cleaned it. Then mother and son were seen out buying him a new mattress pad. Since he was arrested he's been partying all over Europe, surely on his mother's dime as he's never held a job.

It'll be interesting to see what the Norwegians do with the crown princess who impeded a police investigation.

Mette-Marit's father Sven Høiby was a onetime journalist, but mostly a thug/layabout who was convicted twice of felony assault. There is some undercurrent of violent acting-out that comes from Mette-Marit's own family, not just the drug-dealing baby daddy, Morten Borg. It's a weird backstory--Morten Borg (Mette-Marit's ex) was apparently close-ish to Oslo's social jetset, but he also has a criminal record (drugs), and was so broke at the time Mette-Marit hooked up with Crown Prince Haakon (when Little Marius was 2) that he wasn't able to afford child support.

The other sad part is that Mette-Marit has a chronic and (as far as I know) incurable disease. She was diagnosed some years back with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, which sometimes affects her ability to carry out public duties.

I'm sure she's got access to the best care available, and she was fairly young when diagnosed, but I don't think it's been made public how far-progressed her disease is, or what the prognosis.

Marius Borg Høiby is in fjord-full of trouble.

Life expectancy for Mette-Marit's ongoing condition, pulmonary fibrosis, is usually around just five years after diagnosis. She had it diagnosed seven years ago.

My guess is when she goes, Marius will be jettisoned entirely from the Norwegian royal family. But he'll probably go to jail before that happens.

Apparently the institution of royalty in Norway is really endangered. Princess Märthe-Louise, Crown Prince Haakon's elder sister, thinks she is a psychic and is married to an infamous New Age charlatan, and now the half-brother of the future queen (Haakon and Mette-Marit's daughter, Princess Ingrid Alexandra) is a multiple rapist.

I suspect (but do not know) that King Olav has not abdicated (despite his, and Sonja's, increasing health troubles in recent years) in order to give Haakon and his daughter, Ingrid Alexandra, more time to live a semi-normal life before ascending to the more demanding roles. And besides Ingrid, Haakon and Mette-Marit have a younger son together, Sverre Magnus, who is still only 19--young, especially if his mother is dying.

Also, it's worth noting that Harald and Sonja's' match was considered controversial in its time, because Sonja was a commoner (although her father was a well-off businessman, who owned the Karl A. Her diagnosis is idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. That basically means the cause is unknown which is usually the case with this disease. With that said, it is possible that smoking meth could contribute to it. This is especially true if the meth was "cut" with talc as it is known to cause scaring.

The only possible cure is a lung transplant. There was something online (I think from People Magazine) saying that her condition has significantly worsened recently requiring her to cut back on official duties. I'm sure having such a horrible son isn't helping either.
