Sally Kirkland Needs Our Help
She's gravely ill and her insurance was cut off.
Our beloved friend, Sally Kirkland, has graced the stage and screen, inspiring audiences and lifting the spirits of countless many both in and out of the Hollywood community as an actress, teacher, and minister. A lifelong member of the Actors Studio over the last six decades she has starred in over 300 projects including "The Sting", "Private Benjamin", "EdTV", "Bruce Almighty", "The Haunted", "Best of The Best", "Revenge", "Coffee Date", "Roseanne", "JFK", "A Brave New World", "Anna", and is currently starring in the 2024 indie hit film "Sallywood".

Sally received a Best Actress Oscar nomination and won the Best Actress Golden Globe Award and Best Actress Independent Spirit Award in 1988 for her critically acclaimed performance in "Anna".
Her passion and dedication to her craft have not only helped to shape the industry but have also left a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know her. And it is with this in mind that we share with you that Sally is in urgent need of our help.
In 2021 SAG-AFTRA cancelled the supplement insurance for members over the age of 65 that served as members Medigap coverage. The chaotic and confusing transition to another Medigap policy was marked with significant challenges leaving Sally with extensive out of pocket costs that have exceeded her savings and monthly pension income.
As a result today, she finds herself facing a significant health crisis—one that has not only affected her well-being but also requires urgent and quality medical care that she can no longer afford.
While Sally has had a successful career as a working actor, she came up in the business during a time that women made less than men.

In 2007 during the market crash Sally lost the bulk of her investments and the money she made during the peak of her career (1988 - 1998), which Celebrity Net Worth has never updated or corrected.
This past year Sally fractured her four bones in her neck, right wrist, and her left hip. While recovering she developed two separate life-threatening infections. The combination of these injuries and infections have required extensive hospitalizations and rehab beyond the 100 days insurance will cover.
As the days pass, lack of proper care greatly diminishes Sally’s chance of a full recovery. However, with the right medical support, we know she has a strong chance of overcoming this setback and returning to the work she loves.
For those of us putting together this campaign, Sally has been more than just a friend- she has been a maternal figure, offering encouragement, wisdom, and love when it was needed most. For those who know Sally personally, she has been a limitless source of generosity, kindness, and unwavering spirit. And while she has meant so much to so many around her, she has never had the luxury of a life partner or children to lean on in difficult times. But she has always prioritized being there for others, given everything she has to her craft, her church, her friends, and her community.

We are humbly asking for your support, in any amount you can offer, to ensure she gets the treatment she needs at this crucial time in her health journey. Every donation, no matter the size, will help bring her one step closer to recovery and, we hope, back to doing what she loves most—acting.
Thank you for your kindness, compassion, and consideration. Your support during this critical time could be the key to Sally regaining her health and her future.
With gratitude, hope and love,
Paige Dylan, Coty Galloway, Mel England

She bragged that Barbra liked her a lot when they played radio station coworkers in THE WAY WE WERE.
Maybe she can call her for help? Sally could manage the underground mall, or maybe there’s another opening.

I assume she's in California. She already has Medicare, and she should qualify for MediCal to cover the gap.

What happened to her nose? She always seemed like a big druggie. A completely deranged woman. She still shows up to shit she’s not invited to. She’s like BrendaD’s long-lost fatter sister.

Her mother was an editor at Vogue and her father was from a wealthy Philly mainline family.
People lost money in 2007 - but the market bounced back and most people recovered.
She's just been a spoiled rich kid who has indulged every little passion interest in her life and wasted her money. She worked a LOT - mainly in minor roles, but her list is impressive and busy.
I really have no sympathy for her. She was born into every advantage possible.

R15 - let me add - she's on Medicare now. So not sure what insurance was cut off when she should be able to afford the couple hundred dollars a month for Medicare gap coverage.
This sounds like a scam.

She squandered her fortune on faulty implants.
Let this be a lesson to us all.

Can I tell a lovely but looney story about Sally?
She once came into an office where I was working and I helped her. She was so nice! We got to talking about my mother who was going through treatment for a brain tumor and Sally told me she and her friends had a regular healing circle and she made sure to include my mom in the ceremony. I thought it was a lovely gesture.
I saw her a couple of more times and she always asked about my mom.
I hope she’s getting the healing circle treatment herself right now!

I’ll never forget her portrayal of “Crazy Lonnie” on a 1979 episode of Charlie’s Angels. Lonnie was an inmate with a temper issue being housed at Colejo women’s prison. Kris Munroe goes under cover as a prison inmate to stop a jewelry theft ring of all things. Anyway Kris encounters several colorful and lesbian leaning characters during her time in Colejo. One of which is Crazy Lonnie who gets pissed off because she thinks Kris threw her makeup bag into a mud puddle while she was lifting weights in the prison yard! Lonnie chases fastass Kris all over the yard and winds up getting pushed into the outdoor prison pool. I shit you not. Kris rescues Lonnie after she sees Lonnie drowning in the water. Kris is sent to the hole for her part in the scuffle. Crazy Lonnie is now and forever hopelessly devoted to Kris Munroe and will risk her life by taking on other inmates trying to protect Kris from other inmates.

R27 - that's what we're trying to figure out. Medicare gap coverage is easily to re-instate and doesn't cost $65,000.
She's 83 now - I think there are other issues at play here.
There may be nursecare or other supportive costs. I don't know - it just doesn't sit right with me somehow. It's fishy.

[quote]She bragged that Barbra liked her a lot when they played radio station coworkers in THE WAY WE WERE.
Sally and Barbra did a production of Romeo and Juliet at The Actors Studio where Barbra played Juliet. Barbra talked about it in her Playboy Interview and said it was the best piece of acting she had ever done up to that point.
Sally went on to work with Barbra in Yentl, helping her play Ansel.

I remember reading the Coral Amende book Hollywood Confidential and one of the passages was about Sally talking to Army Archerd at the Oscars and she yelled out “i just wanted to say hello to all the Sally Kirkland fans out there” and Amende wrote “yeah all 3 of you”. I remember laughing at that comment quite a bit.

Sally made me spend the night at her WeHo apartment on Havenhurst the night they aired her appearance on Howard Stern and we got the call when the East Coast aired. During it she mentioned Bob Dylan going down on her. Recently. (This was about 1997.) We drove home from the film festival we were at and she spent the night calling people and asking their opinion if Bob would be upset. Everytime I tried to leave, she begged me to stay. I finally crashed in her bed. Woke up to her still wearing last night's outfit.
Batshit crazy she is.

Looking over her IMDb credits - which are almost all B movies and worse - I wonder what her Helen Lawson in the TV series VALLEY OF THE DOLLS was like.
Where the characters and plot basically the same as the book/movie, or where they just cashing in on the title?
