A majority of Senate Republicans doubt Matt Gaetz will be confirmed as attorney general, sources say

More than half of Senate Republicans, including some in senior leadership positions, privately say they don’t see a path for the former Florida representative, according to a number of Republican sources.

Yeah…this isn’t happening.

by Anonymousreply 1November 17, 2024 8:21 AM

What isn't happening, R1? Gaetz getting confirmed, or a group of Republican Senators actually showing a spine against Trump for once?

by Anonymousreply 2November 17, 2024 8:23 AM

A majority of Senate Republicans hate Trump privately, then vote to give him what he wants publicly.

I am so tired of the "off the record" game Repugs play. If they cant say it publicly, and fallow with their actions, then STFU.

by Anonymousreply 3November 17, 2024 8:26 AM

Gaetz can hardly be more impotent and pointless than Garland has been - what a useless noodle.

by Anonymousreply 4November 17, 2024 8:26 AM

R4, I think the opposite is true. He’ll do a number of terrible things to please Trump. He’ll weaponize the DOJ.

by Anonymousreply 5November 17, 2024 8:31 AM

Evil Muppet fucker

by Anonymousreply 6November 17, 2024 8:40 AM

What's hilarious to me is the still continued discussion of "Vetting Process". Like a vetting process has ever been used in a Trump appointment!

If there is one for Gaetz, it would probably go something like this:

TRUMP AIDE VETTING MATT GAETZ:

Aide: Have you ever committed a crime?

Gaetz: Yes

Aide: What did you do?

Gaitz: I raped a 17 year old.

Aide: Girl or boy?

Gaitz: Girl.

Aide: Phew! Was she hot?

Gaitz: Bro, let me tell ya...

Aide: How many times?

Gaitz: Just once

Aide: That's cool. I don't see a problem. Welcome aboard!

by Anonymousreply 7November 17, 2024 10:33 AM

All Trump will have to do is say he wants Gaetz and the lemmings will confirm out of fear. Or, Trump and Johnson will conspire to get all of his choices through with recess appointments or legislation.

by Anonymousreply 8November 17, 2024 12:46 PM

Cut to Fivehead becoming AG in 3, 2, 1…

by Anonymousreply 9November 17, 2024 12:50 PM

We’ll see. Gaetz has made a LOT of enemies in the GOP.

by Anonymousreply 10November 17, 2024 12:58 PM

It’s part of a PLAN. Trump made a deal with him knowing it wouldn’t go through.

by Anonymousreply 11November 17, 2024 1:00 PM

It was a fake nomination so he could resign and avoid exposure.

I'm not going to lie; I want all of his picks to be confirmed. I want this dumpster fire to be the biggest in the history of dumpster fires. No vaccines from Health. Teen girls are getting passed around at Justice. Defense brought to you by a himbo from Fox News. Junior and the ugly one doing lines in the Lincoln Bedroom. C'mon, let the people have what they voted for.

by Anonymousreply 13November 17, 2024 4:31 PM

I think he will squeak through confirmation. Murkowski is the only one with the balls to step out of line anymore. The rest of these off-the-record bozos is going to fall in line lest they be ostracized by Dump and then probably doxxed and harassed into oblivion by his flying monkeys. Mike Johnson has already said the House report on Gaetz’s drug fueled underage sexual romps is not going to be released as it is “not relevant”. An actual fucking quote. The senators will claim to have no other basis for voting No on the confirmation. Complete lack of experience / qualifications / temperament is not disqualifying anymore in the times of trump.

by Anonymousreply 14November 17, 2024 4:43 PM

I’m with you, R13. Let em burn it all down and any social supports MAGATs depend on to survive.

by Anonymousreply 15November 17, 2024 5:01 PM

He won’t be confirmed because Trump is bypassing the Senate and he’s going to be brought in by recess. This I has been reported.

by Anonymousreply 16November 17, 2024 5:01 PM

Who has “reported” that? Usually reporting is based on stuff that has actually already occurred in the third dimension, not on future hypotheticals.

by Anonymousreply 17November 17, 2024 5:11 PM

He looks AI generated.

by Anonymousreply 18November 17, 2024 5:15 PM

At least trim those eyebrows.

by Anonymousreply 19November 17, 2024 5:16 PM

He will go through as it will be a recess appointment. And half of you are dumb enough to believe them when they say he won’t get in. Don’t you understand their game yet? Look at what they DO, *not* what they say. No one will stop this, I can almost guarantee it. My only caveat is if they leak the Ethics Report….but they will ram him through even harder if it’s leaked. They’re all rapists, and they’re here to rape our country even harder.

by Anonymousreply 20November 17, 2024 5:20 PM

The Ethics Committee report should be leaked on Twitter. Then we'd see the depth of Elon's commitment to free speech.

by Anonymousreply 21November 17, 2024 5:25 PM

Aren’t recess appointments only temporary though? Will Trump have to do it repeatedly?

by Anonymousreply 22November 17, 2024 5:27 PM

Better yet, leak it on BlueSky.

Just leak it.

by Anonymousreply 23November 17, 2024 5:27 PM

I unresign!

by Anonymousreply 24November 17, 2024 5:43 PM

[quote] He’ll weaponize the DOJ.

Honestly, won’t anyone nominated by dump weaponize it?

And I am wholeheartedly in agreement with r13. Let that shit burn.

by Anonymousreply 25November 17, 2024 6:12 PM

[quote] Aren’t recess appointments only temporary though? Will Trump have to do it repeatedly?

Recess appointments are good until the end of the current Congressional session (2 years). So if someone gets appointed as a recess appointment in January of 2025, they don't have to be confirmed by the Senate until December 2026.

by Anonymousreply 26November 17, 2024 6:26 PM

Senators are not going to give up their power this time because they know they will never get it back

by Anonymousreply 27November 17, 2024 6:28 PM

Oh please. A few of them may grumble and complain, but at the end of the day, they will all bow, scrape and do what their god emperor demands out of fear of his army of howling mouth breathers.

by Anonymousreply 28November 17, 2024 6:43 PM

There are only two options for the Republicans. They can either give Trump everything he wants, or they can impeach him and replace him. There is no middle option. So they will roll over and give Trump everything he wants.

And for those who think it will be fun to watch them burn everything down, you are in for a rude awakening.

by Anonymousreply 29November 17, 2024 6:53 PM

They are a co-equal branch of the government. This is their last chance to have any real power. They are not going to go along with this.

by Anonymousreply 30November 17, 2024 6:55 PM

You are assuming that repubs have any semblance of foresight, decency, justice or a backbone.

by Anonymousreply 31November 17, 2024 7:06 PM

R29 - no one said it’ll be fun. But something has to give already.

by Anonymousreply 32November 17, 2024 7:26 PM

Yeah- his is NOT getting this appointment. MAGA voters, politicians, and news outlets are trashing him. He was extremely unpopular and disliked in Congress- and hey if you want to see some other vile behavior of Gaetz, search C-SPAN coverage of House sessions featuring Gaetz. You can literally stuffing coke up his nose and snorting it in. He is completely revolting.

by Anonymousreply 33November 17, 2024 7:26 PM

Kevin McCarthy (ex-speaker of the House) hates Miss Gaetz& started the House ethics investigation on Gaetz. Kevin HATES Gaetz with the FORCE of a thousand fireballs aimed at Gaetz's giant forehead.

Trust me, the report will be released, everyone in Wash DC hates Gaetz.

by Anonymousreply 34November 17, 2024 7:32 PM

Maybe it will r34? But he will STILL be confirmed if Dump wants him confirmed.

by Anonymousreply 35November 17, 2024 8:44 PM

I'm with R11. Gaetz' nomination is nothing more than a shock tactic to get headlines. It worked beautifully.

Gaetz will not be confirmed but whoever Trump does put forth next certainly will, and that person will be just as awful.

Think Jeffrey Clark.

by Anonymousreply 36November 17, 2024 9:39 PM

[quote]And for those who think it will be fun to watch them burn everything down, you are in for a rude awakening.

I don't agree; I plan to sit back and laugh and laugh and laugh. No doom scrolling and melting down here. Let them have what they voted for.

by Anonymousreply 37November 18, 2024 12:49 AM

I am ashamed, but I must admit that I would love Matt Gaetz in me deeply. I think he is so sexy.

by Anonymousreply 38November 18, 2024 1:28 AM

R38, you’re a POS. But your bigger sin? Bad taste in men. Getting fucked by Matt would be like getting fucked by say….Wilhem Dafoe. Think of any man with demon eyebrows. Jack Nicholson. Your taste in men is deplorable, pun intended cunt.

by Anonymousreply 39November 18, 2024 2:11 AM

I'm a Lawyer!

by Anonymousreply 40November 18, 2024 2:19 AM

At this point does it even matter? If it's not him, it'll be other idiot.

by Anonymousreply 41November 18, 2024 2:28 AM

I agree r41. It doesn’t even matter anymore. But I think it’s funny that posters here believe the Rethugs lolololol. Since when do they say the truth??? Stop listening to what they say, WATCH WHAT THEY DO MFers!!!!!!!

by Anonymousreply 42November 18, 2024 2:32 AM

r38, your taste in men is deplorable. Matt Gaetz is [italic]profoundly[/italic] in the physical sense (his internal horribility goes without saying).

by Anonymousreply 43November 18, 2024 2:36 AM

r43 * [italic]profoundly[/italic] unattractive

by Anonymousreply 44November 18, 2024 2:37 AM

Here is the way it's going to go down. The news channels and pundits will go back and forth over this for weeks. Then the Republicans are going to do what Republicans do and just fall in line and then the pundits and the news channels will go back and forth over that for weeks.

And you all will just get pissed and scream the sky is falling and the world is ending. Wash, rinse, repeat.

You're not an idiot if you turn off the news and stop reading the legacy papers. You're protecting your mental health.

by Anonymousreply 45November 18, 2024 2:47 AM

Well you left out a few things. Republicans will claim since it's been in the news, no need to have a confirmation. They will say something like "well at this point we know where everyone stands, lets just get him approved so we can help President Trump. Debate is over.

by Anonymousreply 46November 18, 2024 5:12 AM

I can't believe this many years into Trump people still care about these reports of what people say "off the record". Unless someone is willing to publicly oppose Trump on the record it's meaningless.

by Anonymousreply 47November 18, 2024 5:43 AM

R38 = Miss Lindsey Graham

by Anonymousreply 48November 18, 2024 7:57 AM

I'm sure Mr. Gaetz shall do a fine job!
