Everything wrong with modern SNL can be summed up in that Wicked audition sketch. These have always been my favorite kinds of sketches because they allow the cast to showcase their best impressions, which don’t always fit into the rest of the show. But with this one, there wasn’t a single strong impression. Some, like Fineman’s Martha Stewart, were pale imitations of past cast members’ far superior versions. It was just one weak-to-middling impersonation after another. Nothing elevated.

Well, R7, in fairness to Fineman, I think she's doing the current botoxed and filler version of Martha. She seemed to prioritize lip injections and frozen face over voice. I agree with everything else you wrote.

Is Kyle Mooney trying to weasel his way back into a job? I've noticed they're still using Dana and Andy as if they were regulars.

It is weird how they now have these lingering former cast members. Also, has Samberg had some sort of facial surgery? He looks different to me.

I cannot explain it but i find Andy Samberg so fucking sexy it may be a fetish.

Jane Wickline is a tiktoker...She is bland in everything she does on SNL.. If they wanted a funny lesbian they should have kept Punky. And SNL prettied her up cause her acne and teeth aren't that great in her social media videos.

Jane’s an example of Lorne’s losing his ability to know who to cast. Hiring not only necessary combo of comic ability and charismatic personality, but on politically correct categories box-checking. Couldn’t even finish watching tonight—I’m binge-watching Maya as Donatella Versace old skits on YouTube.

Mikey Day was standing way in the back for the goodbye but was he in any sketches tonight? Imagine having to travel all the way into the studio just for that.

What did Baldwin do? He looked old, fat and disoriented at the end.

Mikey might have been in one of the "cut for time" sketches.

Name me a current cast member who isn’t one note. Lorne used to say he wanted “enlightened amateurs” in the cast, but recent years seem to mean much more into the second part of that equation

Baldwin didn’t work as RFK Jr. because he looked too much like himself. All he did was sound raspy. I did like Sarah Sherman as Matt Gaetz.

They seem to be pushing the new female cast member Ashley Padilla front and center. She resembles a young slender Trisha Yearwood, yet she seems to emulate and base her schtick on Kristin Wiig's persona.

I think Charli forgot to mention him at the end of the show, R39. Standing right next her and still forgotten. Now that's charisma!

An accurate indicator of old age is not knowing anything about 3 SNL hosts in a row.

She was good on this show. And Adam Samberg really delivered in his musical short.

R9 Samberg is starting to have Matthew Modine's former middle aged face.

Despite (or maybe including) his little paunch Samberg is super sexy.

I think they’re leaning heavy on former cast members popping up as a 50th season celebration.

I wish they’d invite former cast members back all season long to host the show.

I'm not crazy about Charli XCX as a singer, but she was surprisingly funny in the comedy sketches.

I was surprised the louche effectiveness of her dance moves. She's actually much more likeable then I had imagined just form video clips here or there. Quite funny and on the ball.

I’ve been watching the show since the beginning. I was 10 when it premiered in 1975.

I’m at the point where I don’t know half the hosts or musical guests. The woman from last Saturday I didn’t know, but I’ve heard the word “brat” being referenced in the past year. I take it she started that. I still enjoy the show, but I wish I liked more of the musical guests. The majority of today’s music is utter garbage.

R52 The early days of SNL used to feature obscure and unique musical guests who weren't well known.

SNL is where I first saw Leon Redbone, Devo, and The B52s, all before they became mainstream successes.
