James Van Der Beek is battling cancer!

He has colorectal cancer!!!

Liars get cancer.

by Anonymousreply 3November 3, 2024 7:14 PM

I always loved that rumor on here, R3.

by Anonymousreply 4November 3, 2024 7:19 PM

Sorry to hear it. Glad he caught it. Colon cancer tends to be slow-growing and treatments are very effective. The big takeaway is that he is 47, and until a few years ago, the medical community considered 50 the age where one with no risk factors should be screened for it. Hopefully, this will raise awareness of risk to people younger than 50.

by Anonymousreply 5November 3, 2024 7:25 PM

So he was a bottom this whole time?

by Anonymousreply 6November 3, 2024 7:54 PM

For the love of God, James, don’t die!!!

FUUUUUCCCK!!!

by Anonymousreply 7November 3, 2024 7:55 PM

You think only gay bottoms get colon cancer? wtf.

by Anonymousreply 8November 3, 2024 7:55 PM

You can get HPV from bottoming. 9 out of 10 cases of butt cancer are caused by HPV.

by Anonymousreply 9November 3, 2024 7:59 PM

Again, you don’t have to be a fucking bottom to end up with colon cancer.

I can’t with the idiocy.

by Anonymousreply 10November 3, 2024 8:02 PM

Colorectal is a broad term that includes colon cancer, but he may have rectal cancer.

by Anonymousreply 11November 3, 2024 8:13 PM

Trumper with a weird breeder fetish.

by Anonymousreply 12November 3, 2024 8:18 PM

James Van Der Beek revealed he has colorectal cancer. Then he went back to impregnating his wife.

by Anonymousreply 13November 3, 2024 8:19 PM

Oh, no.

But he did have the bliss of John Wesley Shipp unloading in that ass, so there's that.

by Anonymousreply 14November 3, 2024 8:21 PM

He has a cancerous ass, so he can't live forever.

by Anonymousreply 15November 3, 2024 8:22 PM

[quote] The big takeaway is that he is 47, and until a few years ago, the medical community considered 50 the age where one with no risk factors should be screened for it. Hopefully, this will raise awareness of risk to people younger than 50.

When I turned 50 six years ago my GP, who I had been seeing for about for about 15 yeas at that point, advised I get a colonoscopy.

At the preliminary appointment, the gastroenterologist took one look at my chart a minute after he came into the room and literally started screaming at me.

"You're Black, you should have been here 10 years ago!"

by Anonymousreply 16November 3, 2024 8:24 PM

[quote] I can’t with the idiocy.

I cahn’t. I just cahn’t.

by Anonymousreply 17November 3, 2024 8:26 PM

I doubt the porn Dawson can even get colorectal cancer. I think his colon and rectum fell out years ago.

by Anonymousreply 18November 3, 2024 8:31 PM

I cahn't stan im!

by Anonymousreply 19November 3, 2024 8:32 PM

R11 People with colon cancer will say they have colon cancer. People with ass cancer will say they have colorectal cancer due to being embarrassed.

by Anonymousreply 20November 3, 2024 8:32 PM

Is this the guy who lives out in the country with his stay-at-home wife and ten crotch fruit?

by Anonymousreply 21November 3, 2024 8:33 PM

r21 Yep. Says breeding as much as possible should be everyone's priority.

by Anonymousreply 22November 3, 2024 8:39 PM

He can breed me!

by Anonymousreply 23November 3, 2024 8:40 PM

by Anonymousreply 26November 3, 2024 10:01 PM

In some ways he's had the worst career of the four leads on his show, which is somewhat surprising since he was the best looking among them back in the day. But he was also the least talented.

by Anonymousreply 27November 3, 2024 10:03 PM

I liked him on Dont Trust the B in apartment 23. Very funny playing himself as the vain clueless actor.

by Anonymousreply 28November 3, 2024 10:15 PM

Isn't he kind of tall to be a bottom?

by Anonymousreply 29November 3, 2024 10:21 PM

Didn't they move to Austin, Tx.?

by Anonymousreply 30November 3, 2024 10:26 PM

I should just interject that I kinda recognize this guy but can’t think of any parts I’ve seen him in. However, I don’t think it’s hilarious that he has cancer.

Ok interjection over, please carry on.

by Anonymousreply 31November 3, 2024 10:34 PM

So I just looked him up on IMDb. He has a long line of credits (including by the way something called “Asshole for Hire”), but oddly enough, I’ve never seen a single thing in his credits.

by Anonymousreply 32November 3, 2024 10:38 PM

Huh, ever since watching Dawson's Creek, I never found him attractive at all. In OP's photo though... He's really grown into that face of his, hasn't he? Looks good now!

Well, too bad. He had a great ass-face, but he couldn't live forever...

by Anonymousreply 37November 3, 2024 10:50 PM

Focus on returning to your full and perfect health, James Van Der Beek. You are there.

by Anonymousreply 38November 3, 2024 10:55 PM

[quote]In some ways he's had the worst career of the four leads on his show, which is somewhat surprising since he was the best looking among them back in the day.

In some ways? More like all. I know Katie Holmes killed her film career by marrying Tammy Cruise, but before then she had a number of well-regarded film roles, including Rachel Dawes in "Batman Begins." (Tammy made her quit for the sequel, and Maggie Gyllenhaal took over the role. Dumb move, Katie.) She was on the last season of "Euphoria" as well, plus Josh Jackson also continues to actually *work*, unlike the Beek.

Michelle has FIVE Oscar noms, so no contest there.

[quote]Didn't they move to Austin, Tx.?

No. I know an absurd number of celebs claim to have moved there, but there's a considerable difference between living in Austin and its surrounding areas. (Think Manhattan vs. Staten Island, except far more redneck. Or WeHo vs. Reseda.) Dawson & fam moved into a ranch about 90 minutes outside of town, and IIRC it's a rental – in the middle of hard-core Trump country, no less. They do have six kids to feed, after all, thanks to the Beek wildly overcompensating for his secret cock cravings. That other secret cock-craver who just sold his soul to Trumpkins, Zachary Levi, lives on the outskirts of a Bumfucke town 40 miles east of there. (Also Trump territory, of course.)

Celebs with REAL money live in Austin proper: I have no idea how many millions the "Supernatural" guys have from their 72 seasons of the show, but both have huge compounds (near each other, as well as Austin's newest and least welcome resident, Elon Musk). My sister lives three doors down from Emma Stone's nearly completed house there as well.

[quote]He has a long line of credits (including by the way something called “Asshole for Hire”), but oddly enough, I’ve never seen a single thing in his credits.

I watched all of "Dawson's Creek," but the only other thing I know he was in was "Don't Trust the B in Apartment 23," though I never watched it. If anything, it's remarkable that *any* of its stars went anywhere: most TV stars peak early and never recover, including the Beek. Hell, even Adam Brody – who's WAY hotter and a WAY better actor – went largely unnoticed for the 20 years between the end of "The O.C." and his new Netflix series about the hot rabbi.

by Anonymousreply 39November 3, 2024 11:06 PM

Are his kids still filthy?

by Anonymousreply 40November 3, 2024 11:15 PM

It's good that he's supporting JFK Jr and other quacks out there. Of course, now he'll expect medical science to save him.

by Anonymousreply 41November 3, 2024 11:17 PM

by Anonymousreply 42November 3, 2024 11:23 PM

by Anonymousreply 43November 3, 2024 11:30 PM

by Anonymousreply 44November 3, 2024 11:41 PM

[quote] He would look infinitely better if he'd get an eyelid lift.

He’d look infinitely more feminine, R26.

by Anonymousreply 45November 4, 2024 12:02 AM

Not necessarily. A guy in my office had an eyelid lift many years back and it made him look a thousand percent better. It doesn't have to be so extreme. Just enough to get the lid fold to not lie on top of the eyelashes.

by Anonymousreply 46November 4, 2024 12:10 AM

by Anonymousreply 77November 4, 2024 5:08 AM

I'm always surprised that Joshua Jackson still gets work. I find him very annoying. I have no interest in watching his new Ryan Murphy show.

by Anonymousreply 78November 4, 2024 8:14 AM

I bet he’ll eschew chemo in favor of herbals and other alternative quackery.

by Anonymousreply 79November 4, 2024 8:41 AM

R54, I thought I read that Van Der Beek used to vote Dem. I didn't think he was a Republican, more that he was upset that Biden didn't participate in the primary debates (although neither did Trump). That apparently led to VDB's disillusionment and attraction to RFK. Is VDB now supporting Trump because RFK endorsed him?

by Anonymousreply 80November 4, 2024 8:46 AM

My guess, R79, is he’ll quietly rely on western medicine.

by Anonymousreply 81November 4, 2024 8:48 AM

In my town, they call it the cancer of the doo doo.

by Anonymousreply 82November 4, 2024 9:01 AM

In the People article, he didn't say what stage he was or whether he had had chemo or the tumor removed. He said he'd been taking steps to resolve it, which sounds like alternative medicine to me.

by Anonymousreply 83November 4, 2024 9:32 AM

That’s why I say “quietly”. These guys are all about telling you how to live your life when it comes to things like vaccines, but when push comes to shove, their wealth and positions buy them the best medical treatments. They’re ultimately hypocrites. For the sake of his kids, anyway, I hope he does more that eat kale and shove crystals up his ass.

by Anonymousreply 84November 4, 2024 9:48 AM

Has John Wesley Shipp commented yet?

by Anonymousreply 85November 4, 2024 10:55 AM

I'm curious is there any medical consensus on what is driving this epidemic among people under 50 now? A physician friend of mine theorizes is people not consuming dairy as much since that causes mucus development in the digestive tract which acts as a protectant apparently.

She had anal cancer, which is different than colorectal cancer.

Van Der Beek posted on Instagram last night that he'd planned to do this 'coming out' differently and had to rush things because a tabloid was going to break the story. Looking through the last year or so of his photos, you can tell he's lost some weight/muscle but it's hard to pin down because he mixes old and new photos.

Here's an old article about Fawcett's resolution to be honest about her diagnosis. Some excerpts:

[quote]In a perverse twist of medical fate, Farrah Fawcett has become the poster girl for anal cancer, a rare disease often linked to a sexually transmitted virus.

[quote]“She knew that she had the kind of anal cancer that she wasn’t going to ultimately overcome, and decided to leave as much of a legacy of awareness as she possibly could,” her physician, Dr. Lawrence Piro, said Tuesday before her funeral.

by Anonymousreply 101November 4, 2024 4:31 PM

R86, that's an interesting theory. I keep a casual eye on research as there is a higher incidence of colon cancer in my family history but I don't believe there is any consensus as yet.

Also, PSA on the importance of making a concerted effort to get 30g of fibre per day in your diet (for men). If you fall short, a popcorn snack - plain, with maybe a little sprinkling of salt - is an easy way to get 5-10 extra grams. (Plus all the things which will improve your health in general: increase vegetables, rely less on meat and - just as important - exercise.)

[quote]So I wonder if he's rethinking his well publicized move to bumfuck now that he needs access to Grade A healthcare.

Excellent question, now that we know he and his beard ... er, wife are anti-vaxxer Repugs. This is admittedly just a coincidence, but the top cancer-treatment center in America (if not the world) is MD Anderson in Houston, around 200 miles or so from where they live if it's outside of Austin. But if he's sticking to "alternative medicine" bullshit, that may be the literal end of him.

[quote]I'm curious is there any medical consensus on what is driving this epidemic among people under 50 now?

I'm not sure if it's quite at "epidemic" levels yet, but yes, there's been a marked increase in colorectal cancer among both men & women, starting as early as 40. My own doctor started recommending them starting at 45 a couple of years ago now, but I gather this is problematic for some health insurers – odd, considering they usually support preventative measures, but they're admittedly heartless assholes. I don't think there's a consensus as to the cause, either, but most of the theories I've heard involve people eating far less fiber than they used to, which is bad in numerous ways for your entire GI tract, even if cancer isn't a given.

by Anonymousreply 106November 4, 2024 10:37 PM

Poor diet and obesity are the suspected causes of the increased cancer rates among younger people.

by Anonymousreply 107November 4, 2024 10:41 PM

by Anonymousreply 108November 4, 2024 10:46 PM

No rimming James till that's dealt with.

by Anonymousreply 109November 4, 2024 10:48 PM

Since we're talking (speculating really) on medical matters, it's helpful to know that the lining of the anus is made up of completely different kinds of tissue and skin and mucosa than anything inside the rectum just beyond it. The HPV virus that can cause anal cancer is ONLY going to infect and populate the lining of the anus, the anal verge and the anal canal. Immediately beyond that is a completely different world in terms of the cellular structures of the "skin" or lining. The anal canal is only about 1 inch in most people, so we're really talking about a tiny area, relative to what gay people visualize is going on in there. Colorectal cancer is definitely more related to regular intake of certain kinds of foods, (red and preserved meats), carcinogens in the diet, alcohol intake, obesity, and genetic factors.

by Anonymousreply 110November 4, 2024 10:48 PM

[quote]R104 Farrah was the only person I could think of who developed anal cancer, but then I remembered Marcia Cross had it as well.

Did Marcia do condom commercials when she was diagnosed? To inform the public of the anally transmitted ass cancer?

She still could, couldn’t she?

Don’t you think she should publicly disclose how she got it?

by Anonymousreply 111November 5, 2024 12:58 AM

Every person with cancer deserves compassion and respect, not cheap jokes. I am concerned he will not get conventional healthcare but there's nothing I can do about it. No one owes strangers an explanation about what kind of cancer they have or how they got it, whatever that means. Getting well is a big enough job that there should be no expectation of educating the public at the same time. If you want education, look up the web pages of the Mayo Clinic, John Hopkins, Harvard Medical Newsletter, etc.

Treat people, even obnoxious celebrities, as you would want to be treated.

Some people who want to avoid chemo will just opt for surgical removal of the tumor from the colon and a resection (because the surgeons will need to cut out a length of colon - probably around 1 foot. But there are 32 feet of colon, so there is a bit to spare.) My mom had this procedure - plus one week of chemo follow up 6 weeks later, which led to septic shock and lower limb amputations and that was that. (She was scheduled for 2 months of chemo). But that was over 25 years ago, and she is still living (at age 102). A lot will depend on the spread of the cancer to lymph nodes and how aggressive the strain of cancer that he has actually is.

The gold standard now is 12 chemo sessions plus tumor removal unless you're over 70. They're a little less aggressive with older people because of the chemo side effects. Van Der Beek doesn't stand a chance without surgery and chemo.

[quote] James Van Der Beek reveals his Stage 3 colorectal cancer has affected his marriage: ‘I could not be a provider’

James Van Der Beek has opened up about the heartbreaking way his ongoing battle with Stage 3 colorectal cancer has affected his marriage – revealing the diagnosis has left him feeling like he cannot provide for his wife and six children.

The “Dawson’s Creek” actor first announced his diagnosis in November 2024, and he discussed his shocking health battle further in an Instagram clip published Saturday after his 48th birthday.

The video, titled “What Cancer Taught Me,” began with Van Der Beek telling his more than 1.6 million followers how this past year “has been the hardest of my life.”

“When I was younger, I used to define myself as an actor, which was never all that fulfilling, and then I became a husband and it was much better and then I became a father and that was the ultimate,” the “Dawson’s Creek” star said.

“All of those definitions that I cared so deeply about were stripped from me,” he continued after explaining he was forced to be away from his family while undergoing treatment.

“I was away for treatment, so I could no longer be a husband who was helpful to my wife,” Van Der Beek said. “I could no longer be a father who could pick up his kids and put them to bed and be there for them. I could not be a provider because I wasn’t working.”

“I was faced with the question, ‘If I am just a too-skinny, weak guy, alone in an apartment with cancer, what am I?'”

However, the “Varsity Blues” actor’s worries were not long-lived because he ultimately turned to religion to help ease his troubled mind.

“I am worthy of God’s love simply because I exist,” he said. “And if I’m worthy of God’s love, shouldn’t I also be worthy of my own?”

“As I move through this healing portal toward recovery,” Van Der Beek continued, “I wanted to share that with you because that revelation that came to me was in no small part to all the prayers and the love that had been directed toward me.”

The ailing star then called on his millions of fans to follow the same message he shared – even if it felt “too religious” for some.

“I certainly don’t claim to know what God is or explain God, my efforts to connect to God are an ongoing process that is a constant unfolding mystery to me,” he noted.

“But, if it’s a trigger that feels too religious, you can take the word God out in your mind and it can simply be ‘I am worthy of love.’ Because you are.”

For a conservative male that must make him feel like he's worthless.

[quote] I am worthy of God’s love simply because I exist

Pity they can't apply that to others - such as victims of school shootings, the poor, immigrants, gays and lesbians, etc.

CRAM IT, CHURCHY!

by Anonymousreply 132March 15, 2025 10:07 PM

I feel bad that I might have felt something years ago but never mentioned it to him.

by Anonymousreply 133March 15, 2025 10:09 PM

He’s embarrassing.

by Anonymousreply 134March 15, 2025 10:23 PM

Maybe he can contact his good buddy RFK Jr who can send him some quack remedy.

by Anonymousreply 135March 15, 2025 11:20 PM

I'm glad he caught it in time.

by Anonymousreply 136March 15, 2025 11:23 PM

Doesn’t help, R136, if he treats it with kale juice and prayer. Not saying he is, but I wouldn’t be surprised.

by Anonymousreply 137March 15, 2025 11:30 PM

Did he have chemo and surgery?

by Anonymousreply 138March 15, 2025 11:59 PM

Untreated warts.

[quote]The odds of a gay man developing anal cancer are about 20 to 80 times higher than for a heterosexual man. This makes anal cancer one of the most common cancers affecting gay men. The risk of anal cancer is even higher among people living with HIV. This is all because of HPV. Having receptive anal sex increases your risk of an anal HPV infection. And living with HIV makes it harder for your immune system to get rid of harmful HPV infections.

[quote]The other good news is that there are ways to screen for anal cancer. However, there are no national guidelines about who should be screened, when they should be screened, and at what frequency. That is why finding a healthcare provider who you feel comfortable talking to and who is knowledgeable about gay men’s health is so important. Early detection is key to successful anal cancer treatment

James Van Der (Anal) Leak

by Anonymousreply 145March 17, 2025 10:46 AM

i’ve lost two close girlfriends to colorectal cancer and i can assure you that neither one of them was taking it in the ass. one was asexual, and the other, was just innocent. both lives cut far too short, as they were in their 30’s. one got married before she died- just heart breaking. though she had the perfect day. she wasn’t super sick yet though she was terminal stage four.

both literally amongst the best people i’ve known. i’ll never get over the loss. then i see donald trump 78 and rupert murdoch 96 and i get ANGRY. those elderly ghouls shouldn’t be alive.

by Anonymousreply 146March 17, 2025 11:03 AM

also, james van der beek is dazzlingly handsome in person. tall, thin, always a nice fit. he used to make a lot of appearances on “e”, and their studios shared a front door with my credit union.

and, yes, he pinged. his upright posture and stick up the butt walking style, i’ve only seen only seen gay prisspots do

by Anonymousreply 147March 17, 2025 11:18 AM

Colorectal and anal are different cancers. I don’t think colorectal is caused by the HPV virus, like anal and cervical cancers are

Sure, Jan.

Colorectal includes colon and rectal, i.e. anal cancers. Per google AI, predictive factors include age (over 50), family history of colorectal cancer or polyps, certain genetic syndromes, inflammatory bowel disease, obesity, smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, and a diet high in red and processed meats.

by Anonymousreply 150March 17, 2025 3:09 PM

no it doesnt

by Anonymousreply 151March 17, 2025 3:10 PM

Tony the Tumor is stage 3 in my sigmoid colon - sigmund. Colon heheheheh. I refer to it as colon cancer, but I wonder if it’s considered colorectal. I hope not, because it took me four minutes to spell it correctly and it’s right there ^.

As far as risk factors, “ age (over 50)👍🏻, family history of colon cancer 👍🏻……….smoking 👍🏻, excessive alcohol consumption 👍🏻, and a diet high in red and processed meats. 👍🏻”. Guilty.

by Anonymousreply 152March 17, 2025 3:55 PM

Cancer is not a “teacher” and it sure as hell isn’t a punishment.

by Anonymousreply 153March 17, 2025 4:18 PM

R152, thank goodness they caught it. I hope your treatment goes well.

by Anonymousreply 154March 17, 2025 6:49 PM

Cancer can be a teacher in that it can teach you greater respect for your body and to rearrange your priorities. It's a highly personal journey and people do it different ways. Get that baseline colonoscopy at 45 and use the colonguard diagnostic test. The sooner you act, the better the prognosis.

by Anonymousreply 155March 17, 2025 7:44 PM

I know of a doctor who was a total cunt to his patients. He ended up with cancer and then returned with some actual bedside manner. It definitely changed him. Then you have idiots like Laura Ingraham who get cancer and come back cuntier than ever.

by Anonymousreply 156March 17, 2025 7:51 PM

[quote] I know of a doctor who was a total cunt to his patients

And then he died.

[quote] I watched all of "Dawson's Creek," but the only other thing I know he was in was "Don't Trust the B in Apartment 23," though I never watched it. If anything, it's remarkable that *any* of its stars went anywhere: most TV stars peak early and never recover, including the Beek.

I knew his film carreer was going to be a joke once I saw that stupid "Varsity Blues" film.

The only merely watchable aspect of that film was Paul Walker and yet they ruined his sex scene by having that morbidly obese character break in and puke on the washing machine.

by Anonymousreply 158March 17, 2025 8:06 PM

Don’t Trust the B was a very funny show and James was hilarious as himself. It’s another in a long line of shows that didn’t deserve cancellation, but was because of low ratings. Network television (ABC, CBS and NBC) can’t expect the numbers they used to have. There are many more viewing options than there used to be.

by Anonymousreply 159March 17, 2025 9:20 PM

[quote]Colorectal includes colon and rectal, i.e. anal cancers.

Colorectal cancer includes the colon and rectum, neither of which is the anus (i.e., where anal cancer occurs). R148 is correct, and perhaps Google AI could consult Wikipedia, which begins its explanation of colorectal cancer with the notation "For cancer of the anus, see Anal cancer" with a link to the appropriate page.

by Anonymousreply 160March 17, 2025 9:31 PM

So anal.
