OP, one of the reasons DLers were suspicious about Hugh is solely because his now ex-wife is 12 years older than him, and can be safely described as "homely" and in possession of child-bearing hips. In other words, DLers assumed the only reason he'd ever be with a "fug" is if she's a beard, never mind that SHE was the bigger star of the two when they first met. (It was while filming an Australian series circa 1995, and Deborra had the title role.)

That said, the gay rumors about him are among the most persistent (including outside of DL), so I don't think we can say we were "wrong" about him, even if he ends up marrying Sutton Foster or something. And speaking of which: here's the NY Post's bit on her recent divorce filing.
