They did have "Supercentre" on the front of the building. Do Canadians swing both ways with their spelling.

Awww Woolco. I remember when it was the big Woolworth expansion. And then plop.
But apparently there are still Woolworths in Barbados, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa. Wonder if they still have the soda fountain counter that I remember from my youth?

They do. The woman was an 'international student', code for cheap Indian labour in Canada. She probably didn't know how to use it.

I'm thinking something like this, but how that would work? I know they have this type of ovens.

A few things I gathered from the comment section at R65's link:
• The young lady may have been slightly "impaired" developmentally/cognitively (i.e., special needs).
Not only was she 19 years old and working alongside her mother at the same place, but mom checked in on her frequently. The mom supposedly became concerned after not seeing/hearing from her daughter for over an hour).
• Although they told the emergency dispatcher the oven was on, it may not actually have been. Apparently those type of industrial ovens go up to 500° or more, and take hours to cool down. Since the store closes at 10pm and the incident occured around 9 or so, the oven may have been turned off and in the process of cooling, but still hot enough to be lethal (which is what they meant).
• Although the doors of those ovens don't lock from either side, they DO seal tight, so it would take a bit of effort to open.
[quote]it could be one of those doors that needs a good pull to open once closed due to pressure differences
• The door might have been too hot to touch. Combined with the fact that the young woman may have been panicking (and possibly had special needs), that may explain how she was unable to get out.
None of this really explains how she ended up inside the oven in the first place, however.

Her mother may have been checking on her all the time due to knowing how lax safety standards were at the store (Wal*Mart would be cutting every corner possible), or because she was in seeming danger from a colleague.
