Viola Ford Fletcher achieved the most rarefied status of becoming a supercentenarian - only one in 1000 centenarians - in May. And her fellow survivor, Lessie Benningfield Randle, is due to celebrate her entry into this exclusive club on Nov. 10. A remarkable sidenote to this tragedy.
Bless her.

African-Americans consistently hold the title of oldest American. It’s quite surprising given their small share of the population and the medical and economic deprivation most suffered.

For such a supremely exclusive group to have two members who survived this ghastly part of our history is almost God-affirming. And I'm not even religious.

It's insane that this history isn't taught. And Oklahoma is still this backwards
