Popular gut probiotic completely craps out in randomized controlled trial

As suspected, Activia's bullshit.

[quote]In a randomized controlled trial, the probiotic Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis – used in many probiotic products, including Dannon's Activia yogurts – did nothing to improve bowel health in people with constipation, according to data from a randomized triple-blind placebo-controlled clinical trial published Wednesday in JAMA Network Open.

[quote]The study adds to a mixed and mostly unconvincing body of scientific literature on the bowel benefits of the bacterium, substrains of which are sometimes sold with faux scientific-sounding names in products. Dannon, for instance, previously marketed its substrain as "Bifidus regularis."

The only thing Activia ever did for me was give me gas that could kill a crowd.

At least it has flavour going for it. [Neilson and Foremost bargain basement yogurts, I'm looking you]

How can this be? I was shitting myself uncontrollably for four years!

Oh, and I have a trans child.

Doesn’t even work as a placebo?

by Anonymousreply 5October 4, 2024 1:32 AM

The bacteria doesn't colonize in our guts either like other probiotics. It's useless.

TROW-MA!

Activia bloats me but when I drink Danactive I notice my face gets a very glowy and even tone after a couple of weeks.

You have to keep taking them, high potency ones, when you stop, your system kills them like it should.

by Anonymousreply 9October 5, 2024 12:53 AM

Not surprising to me, anyway. Of any yogurts I’ve tried, eg, the one by Activia has upset my stomach—I’ve decided to stay clear of it and any other of their brand’s products.

Well , it works for me in a pinch when I'm all out of laxatives. In fact it worked really well the other night when my plumming was all backed up. I think this study is bogus. It likely works well for some and not so well for others like everything else.
