Jon Ebeling heavily implied that Brian Jordan Alvarez committed sexual misconduct while directing and co-starring with Ebeling in a 2016 web series
Former Co-Star of FX’s ‘English Teacher’ Creator Accuses Him of ‘Baby Reindeer’-Type Behavior

I'm so out of touch. I've heard nothing about this until now, and this came to light months ago.
I've also never head of John Eberling, The Gay and Wondrous Life of Caleb Gallor, or English Teacher.
I only know Brian Jordan Alvarez from Will and Grace.
So what's the latest? Is English Teacher still on FX? Has Alvarez been cancelled?
by Anonymous | reply 3 | December 17, 2024 11:23 AM |
[quote]Alvarez, speaking through his lawyer, Michael J. Kump, says Ebeling’s reaction was overblown and that he was “pretending to be upset,” writing, “This was the performative Kabuki theater of a self-described manipulator, who was distorting the situation to ingratiate himself to [Koenig].” He does not dispute the act but argues that because their previous sexual encounters were consensual, Alvarez assumed the same would be the case here. He is referring to both the hookup at Ebeling’s apartment and the episode-two scene, during which he says both actors masturbated and Alvarez smelled Ebeling’s genitals. (Ebeling says he did not masturbate and that shooting the scene didn’t amount to a sex act: “Nudity on set I’m okay with. I never would have stroked my penis in front of a camera.”) Kump adds that “Brian briefly made contact with Mr. Ebeling’s penis under the covers, believing (correctly and justifiably in light of Brian’s then-current sexual relationship with Mr. Ebeling) that Mr. Ebeling was fine with it.” Ebeling says the oral sex occurred for “a whole take.” In a follow-up, Alvarez’s representatives say Ebeling “consented verbally” to doing it “for real” beforehand. (“Produce the evidence,” Ebeling says. “No way in hell would I have ever consented to that.”)
So Alvarez admits he did it. And the first statement claims he assumed he had consent, and then only later in a second statement are they now saying there was explicit consent. If the latter is true, why didn't they say to start with? Obviously bullshit that was made up once they realised how bad the first statement sounds.
Plus he admits to harassing a guy in college and there are multiple stories of him obsessing about and harassing other straight guys.
Koenig sounds like a massive cunt, too. Wonder if she would say the same thing if this happened to a woman.

by Anonymous | reply 9 | December 17, 2024 1:03 PM |
I’m not reading all this
I had ChatGPT summarize it like a sassy black drag queen
Oh baby, buckle up because this tea is piping hot and about to scald. Brian Jordan Alvarez—TikTok’s favorite quirky gay, the brains behind Caleb Gallo and the new FX darling English Teacher—has been out here serving career glow-up realness. But honey, behind that rising star shine? The mess is messier than my wig after a long night of tequila shots and bad decisions.
Now enter Jon Ebeling, one of Brian’s old crew members turned full-blown whistleblower. Jon says their “creative collaboration” on Caleb Gallo went from quirky queer utopia to full-on nightmare fuel. According to Jon, Brian got way too handsy—pressuring him into sexual situations and turning a set scene into something that had zero business being real. And when Jon tried to speak up? The girl gang—led by Brian’s BFF Stephanie Koenig—gave him a pat on the head and said, “Sweetie, calm down. You’re making this bigger than it is.” Uh-uh. Gaslighting? In this economy? I don’t think so.
While Jon’s been out here hiking folks to the Hollywood sign and telling his story, Brian has been pirouetting his way to fame, landing movies, TikTok virality, and English Teacher earning critical raves. It’s giving “I’m thriving, you’re bitter” energy, but Jon’s receipts are shaking the table. Now comedy circles are torn: Is Jon spilling legit tea, or is this just sour grapes because he didn’t get a seat at the fame buffet?
But let’s be real: this story has everything—power dynamics, blurred lines, and queer drama so tangled it’s practically a Shakespearean tragedy with a ring light. The moral? Even the shiniest stars can cast long-ass shadows, darling. And this situation? It’s giving “to be continued…” because somebody’s got to clean up this spilled tea. Until then, Brian better hold onto his wigs, because Jon seems ready to snatch them—one strand at a time. Periodt.

Reading that article, it sounds like everyone involved in this "love triangle" were all pretty fucked up emotionally.
It definitely crossed the line when Alvarez didn't simulate sucking Eberling's cock under the covers while the cameras were rolling, and that's inexcusable. But it seems to me Eberling was pretty much up for anything for a long time.

I mean, wasn’t this on a ten cent production of a web series ?
It’s not like there was a major studio, major representatives or major money involved. If you can’t fend for yourself in that environment, you should get out of Hollywood.

I find the woe is me straight guy neo-stereotype in these kinds of stories to be frustrating. He’s emulating the “I froze and did nothing bc I was in fear” women’s comment, which women often discuss because they legitimately have reason to fear for their physical safety when these kinds of situations happen to them. There are statistics to back this up. This guy however…I don’t believe for a second felt in, or was in any sort of danger. Saying “I was raped” also seems to be fairly eyebrow raising, and kinda patronizing to people that have experienced rape.
Sure they seem to have had a weird interpersonal relationship between the three of them, and sure that behaviour on set is inappropriate / stupid, but it was also a YouTube web series tiny production.
Also firmly believe there’s a “gay panic” element to this story. Just sick of straight guys that didn’t suffer in any physical way using up all the oxygen in the room on the topic of sexual assault and rape. There are far more serious stories that if discussed would be much more helpful for safeguarding society, than this minor scuffle.

r53 You claim he said he froze in fear - he said nothing of the sort. You say it was a tiny production, as if that somehow makes sexual assault fine. Brian routinely conducts himself in a manner that shows a total lack of any impulse control whatsoever, which manifests itself in sexual matters like this and in his business dealings, where he has steamrolled over just about anyone who has tried to help him along the way.
Stephanie is a tried and true cult follower. Their relationship always had vibes of Charles Manson and his "family" from the 60s. My friend joked that if Brian told Stephanie to drive into the hills to kill Sharon Tate, she'd already be looking at google maps.

FX has renewed English Teacher, its comedy series created by and starring Brian Jordan Alvarez. The 10-episode second season will premiere in 2025.
“English Teacher was one of the most critically acclaimed new shows of 2024 and we are grateful to the producers, writers, cast, directors and crew for the show’s creative excellence,” said President Nick Grad. “We look forward to the new season.”

by Anonymous | reply 106 | February 7, 2025 5:53 PM |
If you can’t stand up for yourself on a $10k web series, you shouldn’t be in the business. For that reason alone, I believe Alvarez when he says he didn’t act with malice against Ebling, who could’ve easily objected in the moment. It’s not like it was a $100M production which would’ve ruined his reputation.
He obviously thought after the popularity of Baby Reindeer last year that he could cash in and get some attention. It’s not Alvarez’s fault that Ebling hasn’t had any success in his chosen career.
