WEHT Mary Crosby?
Kathryn Crosby, who was still alive, IS DEAD TO ME

Hollywood Reporter was kind not to include any recent pics of her in that article. All the work she had done on her face in the last couple of decades made her look like a freak.

r1 Holy shit, just why? Barely even looked human anymore.
It's a zoomable photo too, so you can really inspect the various mistakes from up close, if you have the stomach for it.

These rich old ladies should have traditional face lifts and then just skin treatments. She needed a phenol peel.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | September 21, 2024 7:30 PM |
Was her face puffy from being beaten with bags of Valencia oranges?
by Anonymous | reply 6 | September 21, 2024 7:39 PM |
Yikrs. She looks like a shrunken apple head doll at r1

I recently discovered Otto Preminger's 1959 film classic Anatomy of a Murder. It's one of the best courtroom dramas ever and probably Otto Preminger's best film. Kathryn Crosby plays a surprise witness and like the entire cast she's excellent
by Anonymous | reply 8 | September 21, 2024 7:58 PM |
From the WaPo obit, it sounds as if she could stand her own with him.

I thought Bing was a different father with his second set of kids.
But according to Adrienne King, Harry refused to talk about Bing when they did Friday the 13th because they didn’t have a great relationship,
by Anonymous | reply 10 | September 21, 2024 8:08 PM |
Kathryn was pregnant with Mary when she shot "Anatomy of a Murder." She said when she asked Preminger if her pregnancy could interfere with the production as scheduled, he told her, "the pregnancy might even have advantages because [your] breasts would be bigger. Maybe that's why he was always nice to me."

I love how the The Hollywood Reporter spilled the tea about the fact that Bing Crosby kept postponing their wedding date while he had affairs with leading ladies Grace Kelly and Inger Stevens.
As an actress she was a rypical ‘50s ingenue type — pretty but not too pretty, with a good figure. She did have a cool, practical air about her in her performances, which was very 1950s as well — Capable, reliable but not very sexy. But ‘not very sexy’ was evidently much-preferred in a wife though not a mistress — or a co-star.
I gather she was the ‘wait ‘em out’ type, the sort of Texas belle who figured he would finally come back to her and marry her, which he did. And then she was stuck in a plush prison with an aging husband, no career and three kids. I imagine his death was a relief. Now she had the money (he was very wealthy albeit cheap) the house and still had looks enough left to take a lover. Wonder if, in the end, she thought it was worth it.
Good obit that really encourages us to read between the lines.

what was scoop with her at ATC in San Francisco in the early 70s?
did she make a big $ contribution? I seem to remember people telling horror stories,
by Anonymous | reply 19 | September 21, 2024 9:11 PM |
I wonder if she tried to turn Kerwin Mathews straight during "Sinbad."
by Anonymous | reply 20 | September 21, 2024 9:16 PM |
Here she is at 43 in December, 1976 not long before bing died. She looks lovely, but older that what we see 43 as in modern times.

I read she was selling a lot of Bings stuff a few years ago without consulting her children.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | September 21, 2024 9:42 PM |
Does anybody still care about Bing? She probably would have gotten more if she'd sold the stuff earlier.

Where are the photos of Bing and Bob Hope running a train on Ann Jillian?

She appeared in a number of films in the1950s as Kathryn Grant including an uncredited appearance as 'Girl at Songwriter's Party' in Hitchcock's Rear Window.

Well, if Bing was still fooling around with Inger Stevens and Grace Kelly around the time he married Kathryn, and they had 3 children Bing still had some bang left in him.

by Anonymous | reply 32 | September 21, 2024 11:16 PM |
I saw her in 1996 in State Fair on Broadway. It was a TERRIBLE production of a lousy show and she wasn't great in it. She was only 62 years old and had already had such severe facial yanking she couldn't blink her eyes!
What's bizarre is that I am only a year younger than she was then, and I still look like a middle-aged guy and don't look like a burn victim!

Did Bill Cosby ever do a show with Bing Croby? Bing and his kids move next door to the Huxtables. Cosby and Crosby. In a very special episode Gordon Jump opens up a kids bicycle shop in the hood and starts grooming Rudy who is saved by Tootie on her way home from a Tito Jackson concert.

I thought Bing’s trust was written in a way that she didn’t get much money. One of their neighbors owned a carpet cleaning chain and I remember they paid her to do promotions on the radio because she needed $ so badly.

lol
Bing Crosby never should have had children. He was mean and cold to his first 4 boys, as he was to most people.
Rosemary Clooney spills a bit in her "White Christmas" commentary. She's too diplomatic to say Crosby was cool and distant, but you can hear that between her words when she describes how Danny Kaye idolized Crosby and hoped to develop a friendship, but Crosby wasn't having it.
I've read reports that Kaye himself was an asshole.

Mary was NEVER pretty.

Even as an eight-year-old, I was immediately drawn to Kerwin Mathews in Sinbad. I was passively watching it while playing with my toys.
Then this thing came along:
I scurried up the steps, dove onto my parents' bed and put the bedspread over me for half-an-hour. I wasn't conscious Kathryn Crosby was even in the movie....

I'm from the Bay Area and remember Kathryn Crosby well. She lived in Hillsborough and popped up in the papers now and again, often for an occasional update interview. I also remember the carpet cleaning commercials. She still sometimes sported that forehead curl in later years that she rocked in Anatomy of a Murder. I remember thinking it was the stupidest affectation. She came across as proud and self-satisfied, being the wife and widow of an "icon." Maybe she was OK, I don't know, but she was trapped in that perfect housewife persona as was Nancy Reagan. Stiff, perfect, and better than you
She was attractive in her own way, but I think she married for money, status, and prestige. He could not have been an easy husband. I have a cousin who lives in Hillsborough. Posh and onetime society refuge. Sort of isolated but in a good location on the Peninsula. Far from Hollywood though. Even in such a posh place there is disfunction in families and teen drug abuse. I know this from my cousin and my own friends in the long ago.

Yes, R56 she kept those headbands right up to the end. I was surprised to see R1s later life photo of her without one. Were they to hold her face up? Keep her wig on?
She was in a bad car accident a few years back that killed her second husband.
People who talk about working with her say she was lovely. Rosemary Clooney remained friends with her after Bing's passing and says nice things about her in her memoir.
Kathryn Crosby published four books about him, one when he was still alive: Bing and Other Things. Then, My Life with Bing, My First Years with Bing, and My Last Years with Bing. They used to have them in stock at the Barnes and Noble near me, for some reason.
Michael Feinstein got her to do an act in New York in 2005.
