The mysteries surrounding Nicole Kidman
For someone who never was a genuine box office attraction, Nicole Kidman is still one of the most highly respected of all female movie stars, even despite her weird inhuman facial work.
I understand why she's had so many fillers and Botox injections: even though they make her look plastic, I can see how she would think they make her look younger. but why has she had nose jobs when her original nose was fairly attractive? Why does she deny ever having had plastic surgery when it;s so evident she did? And why is she so obsessed with wigs when there's no been no indication or rumors her original hair is thinning or that she's balding?
Why does she so far not say anything negative about Tom Cruise now that their kids are grown and mostly estranged from her? Did she sign some sort of NDA when she married him? Does she stay away from her kids with Cruise because they're brainwashed Scientos or because they're his?
Why did they originally divorce? It used to be said it was a lavender marriage, but I don't think anyone believes that anymore. he said she was to blame for the divorce ("Ask Nic!"), but she never explained anything.

She has had more fillers and constant Botox /lasers than any actress today.
She never touched her eyes (surgically), which I respect..
I am unsure about a brow lift. (Her filler/Botox is SO intense and consistent that you might be surprised at what that can do-
Her lips /mouth are simply filler. Ben's ex wife had the same /quite easy technique to fix her gummy smile- Jennifer Garner
I do feel her hair is thinning and she has worked that out expertly as well-
I love her as an actress. I hear she treats crews very kindly.
Alleged Stories about her father (and her as a teen) chill me to the bone, and I believe it (Fiona Barnett)
There is darkness there in my opinion- and a lot of it-
She is fascinating and a superlative actress.
I can see her getting her neck/chin line done- she is so vain, and that will require surgery-

I think it's a case of she really hated what she looked like...the curly hair and big broad face and the frame of a high school female jock. She hated that and wanted to be an ethereal, elicate fairy. And, with all her money, she got what she wanted.
I suspect she wears all the wigs because she might have ruined her natural hair by constantly straightening it. Either that or she keeps it super short so she can wear her wispy wigs.
And, yeah....she's an odd duck. There are dark secrets there and trauma. And, the father WAS creepy.

Nicole Kidman's career is self-funded these days, and they make enough money that she's not going anywhere else anytime soon. How she can afford to self-produce and finance these numerous procedures, or find the time in between recovery to film them, is a mystery that may never be solved.

If you think Nicole is still a Scientologist, you're crackers and need a shrink.
TBH, I don't she ever WAS one. She played the game long enough so she could marry Cruise and get the career but....Nic is an opportunist. She seizes those opps then moves on.
She gets cast because she's castable. She still looks "good" and she has enough of a name to get roles. And, while Nicole has issues, she's always been about the quality of the work. She likes prestige projects and because she's a good actress and allegedly easy to work with, directors want to hire her.

Her real hair color is the photo with Tom. Easy to punch it up to red for Dead Calm which is a great movie in my opinion.

She has had eye work of some sort. Growing up in Australia with her skin type means she should have a lot more wrinkles around her eyes, particularly as the freckles showed extreme early sun damage.
Most of her face looks like a horrible version of a generic Hollywood blonde, but considering her skin type and past sun exposure, it could be a lot worse.

I can’t stand her acting, but she’s definitely made the most of the opportunities she’s had.
She never would have become a huge star with her original appearance, so it’s easy to see why she enhanced her looks.
I do believe she’s nice to crew and easy to work with, so that’s probably another reason she keeps getting roles. Meryl Streep has the same reputation.

R8 and R10- i will not even post that shit here as you will call me a loon. I believe Fiona Barnett (Child Molestation and worse, is a worldwide epidemic, as I learned from a dear friend of mine) You can google, find her - include australia, and go down the rabbit hole yourself. Post 2017, Fiona has made herself disappear-
R7- I don't think she has had eye work- Look at her hooded eyes/lids- those are hers. Botox will naturally lift the eyes/forehead when injected expertly (she clearly goes to he "best"..
I think she is beautiful and has not reached "freak" levels- but her skin is just so perfect for a 60 year old, that she looks -inhuman-.... Even with all that, for me any way, she can inhabit characters
and let me recommend one of her BEST and most forgotten performances- Destroyer.
It is a flawed film, but watchable- and she is EXCELLENT-

I remember back in 92 (in Australia) watching Strictly Ballroom at the cinema and in the previews before it started, one of Kudman's films featured.

Yes, this was my original impression too. But after taking a short trip down that rabbit hole, I was disturbed to find there are some seemingly genuine links between this Fiona person and a well-known criminal family from Australia who are infamous for their dysfunction and multi-generational violence, also to crime syndicates that are definitely not a figment of someone's imagination. I'm not saying that it's all true, but it's sometimes a smaller and stranger world than we can imagine. It's all the more startling as the Kidmans were always ultra respectable and well-liked, from the good side of town etc...

I know little about her and this isn't as judgmental as it might sound, but in the spirit of the thread title I'll add: Strange to adopt two children and later on just move on with your life after you and their dad divorce and live as if that part of your life, including the kids, never existed. Well the not talking about Tom/Scientology thing is no big mystery. Either there was an NDA or they have compromising information on her from recorded sessions.
Katie Holmes never talks about him or the cult either so I’m assuming NDAs are standard for Tom’s wives.

As a fellow Australian I only have one question: Would her career be much different if she never married Cruise?
They met making Days of Thunder and followed up with Far and Away... two films largely forgotten. Their third and last costarring was Eyes Wide Shut, so they ended on a high. A Kubrick film will will never be forgotten. If Kidman and Cruise had never met or married then the casting in that film would've been different but so what? It's still a Kubrick film.
That one film aside, did she really need to marry Cruise to boost her career?

I have a friend who is obsessed with her. She’s his favorite actress/celebrity. He will begrudgingly admit that sometimes she looks weird, but doesn’t really want to talk about it.
In some movies/shows she looks normal-obviously augmented, but normal. Then I’ll watch one of her million other shows, and she looks totally freakish.
She is a great actress. No doubt. Dead Calm,To Die For, The Others, Moulin Rouge, Dogville, Birth, Margot at the Wedding, Rabbit Hole, Lion, The Beguiled, Destroyer….all great performances.
She was excellent in the first season of Big Little Lies, but looked distractingly weird in the second season, as she did in The Undoing and Nine Perfect Strangers (her worst performance IMHO). For some reason, she shows up in a supporting role in the Zoe Saldana-led series Lioness. She must have done that as a favor for someone.

To clarify how Nicole is likely to have aged if she hadn't had all that work, in the picture below she is holding hands with her sister (in the black and white), who is but three years younger, has lived nearly all her life in Sydney, and has borne six children (and that's without the rumours that she was surrogate for one of Nicole's).
R2, Nicole can't ever have had "the frame of a high school female jock". Her torso and hips are particularly narrow for a woman of her height, and you can't have surgery to make your pelvis and clavicles smaller. (Compare the width of her waist and pelvis with those of the slim and much shorter girl in orange, two across from her in the picture.)

To answer your questions OP ..let me begin
Nicole signed a NDA with Cruise Tom and Nicole’s adopted kids have chosen to become Scientologists . They don’t allow interaction with non Scientologists and consider them suppressed people. Nicole has attempted to have a relationship with them but they abide by their religious beliefs. The reason Tom said “ask Nic” was because it was rumored that Nicole was having an affair with Ewan Macgregor during the filming of Moulin Rouge and got pregnant then had a miscarriage. Nicole has had many facial procedures and at times they do affect her acting roles However, she is still my favorite actresses….she has produced many nuanced acting roles Loved her in To Die For, Moulin rouge, The Hours and Big Little Lies…ect

Marriage to Tom made her a star (whether the early films were hits or not) and introduced her to a lot of Hollywood power players so I’m sure it had an effect. She likely would have had a career more like her friend Naomi Watts otherwise.
EYES WIDE SHUT is what made everyone aware that she is a great actress. She eclipsed Tom in that movie despite having a significantly smaller role.

He was a vain old man who had a heart attack on a Singapore hotel treadmill and hit his head in the fall. It’s the opposite of a scandal but poor Fiona is taking a lead out of the Elon Musk playbook with coy references to South East Asia.

To R38, Nicole Kidman's NDA with Miss Cruise would have been 10 years!! This is the standard practice of famous divorces.
I was brought into the Miss Cruise divorce because Nicole's team was sure he was hiding $$$$ from her (and Miss Cruise was hiding money). My job was to find the hidden money, and I did. I never signed an NDA because I was a "freelance independent forensic financial accountant"& wasn't being paid by Nicole's divorce team. Also, I had dealings with Miss Cruise's private security man Anthony Pelicano, who was really GOOD at digging up dirt on people (and plant bugging devices all over a home-outside lines). Needless to say, Nicole won the divorce battle.

I think Kidman's appeal lies in the fact that there is an inherent kind, fragility that emanates through the surface brittlness that is ALWAYS there. It makes for an appealing complexity that makes her more interesting than somone like Blanchett, who is probably more technically gifted, and also frequently plays the same type of brittle women of a certain age/socioeconomic situation, but is not nearly as appealing or interesting a performer.
