I’m sorry this is such blatant Oscar queerbait.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | September 6, 2024 4:03 PM |
Queer tells me nothing about the characters. Are they trans? Nonbinary? Questioning? 2 Spirit? Pansexual? Or just plain gay & lesbian?
by Anonymous | reply 4 | September 6, 2024 4:04 PM |
R4 in the 50s? GAY AND LESBIAN OR BI. All those modern words don’t apply to then.

Jacob Elordi and Daisy Edgar-Jones play “queer outsiders” Julius & Muriel in ‘ON SWIFT HORSES,’ who feel “a constant pull towards each other that leads to a stirring climax.”
Elordi: “I believe Taylor Swift calls it an invisible string.”

There was a couple on Oprah who met young, got married, had kids and then discovered they were both gay. Gay men and gay women have always found each other.
I am almost tearing up thinking about when I first met my lesbian best friend. More than 30 years ago, I was kinda closeted and very "straight-presenting" (no, seriously) and I still am in middle age. We were in graduate school, she walked right up to me and smiled broadly and said "what are you doing tomorrow?" The next evening she picked me up at my home. She didn't tell me where we were going and I didn't ask, we were just vibing. She took us straight to the gayest club in the city. She died about 12 years ago and I really miss her.

Remember, cisgender hetero girls like to see gay men kissing and caressing, and they can tolerate a tasteful, dimly-lit display of body contact...but NOT raw, sweaty butt sex and kink like in "Fellow Travelers." I hope they thread the needle carefully with this one.

"Bones and All" minus the cannibalism.
Not that romantic movies about the disaffected and the wandering can't be good, but the genre had pretty much run its course when William Holden hopped that train.

How is this like Bones and All? Let’s see this explanation
by Anonymous | reply 22 | September 7, 2024 10:52 PM |
Jacob and Barry reunited earlier to take some photos together. They are both at TIFF tonight because both their films are premiering there tonight. Earlier the casts of the films debuting tonight did their Variety photoshoots and interviews and they ran into each other.
Sydney Sweeney’s new movie premieres tonight too. I wonder if her and Jacob will run into each other.
Lots of young stars in these indie flicks this year.

One would think with Elordi and Calva playing lovers there would be more pics of just the two of them.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | September 7, 2024 11:12 PM |
R25 why would there be more pics of them? The film focuses on Elordi and Edgar-Jones. Calva has a small supporting role.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | September 7, 2024 11:14 PM |
Elordi and Edgar-Jones are the leads. They get photographed together. Calva, Poulter, Calle are all small supporting roles. The focus is the two leads. Their relationships with others is secondary in the film.

R22, Just the idea of loners finding each other. Nothing more. I've not seen either movie. Don't let it bug you; I'm not knocking either Timmy or Jacob.

Deadline gives it a very mixed but mostly positive review. They sing the praises of Elordi and especially Calva.
“Edgar-Jones also seems to have a tough time getting a real handle on just who Muriel is, although certainly someone longing for a same-sex relationship while being newly married in the 1950s might not be the easiest character to define. Poulter is the poor lost soul in all this, and he could have been the antagonist standing between his brother and wife but he’s really a good old boy. You feel for him since he thought he was going to live the American dream. Elordi is becoming one of the most interesting actors around, especially after Saltburn and Euphoria have cemented his sex symbol bonafides. If they ever remake Hud, he’s the guy. However it is Calva, the discovery from Damian Chazelle’s Babylon, who is the standout, an intriguing character to be sure. And Calva hits all the right notes in and out of bed with Elordi.“

Gay men are so mentally lost they think everything is porn. Did they think a sex scene between two actors in an R rated film was gonna be porn? I’m confused. No real film fan yet alone someone who studied film thinks this.

I just got out of the theater and I enjoyed it overall. I liked the simplicity of it and that it was such a quiet movie. It was so quiet. It’s a slow movie and I don’t mind them when they don’t feel too long but this one eventually does start to feel long. This would have benefited from being trimmed down 20-30 minutes. It’s 2 hours and should have been 90 minutes.
I will say Jacob Elordi is LOVELY in this film and looks the most beautiful he’s ever looked.

I've seen it twice, actually. The great thing about L.A is that there are advance screenings, aplenty.
Any scene with Elorid's Julius and Calva's Henry was my favorite, but specifically when Julius essentially tells Henry he doesn't need his old life, that he just wants him.
