They already made an extremely boring movie out of this called "Scoop."

Exactly r2. Why this fucking topic again?

Michael Sheen's wig is ridiculous.

Has Sheen played just about every male British political and royal figure that's existed in the last 50 years at this point?

Meh reviews…

I'll give this a go. I want to hate it, because from the trailer, I thought Ruth Wilson's attempt to mimic Emily Maitlis seemed awful.

R7 cribbed from the NYT.
Yes, it was that bad.

Is Ruth Wilson married to Todd Hanks?
by Anonymous | reply 9 | September 20, 2024 8:36 PM |
Yes, Wilson is playing her very sharp and brisk, Maitlis is softer. I enjoyed the first episode, it's not going to get a Bafta.
The main reason I'm watching is for Sheen. If anyone can embody Andrew's pretentiousness insincerity he can.

No shit—
Kate Beckinsale (1995–2003)
Lorraine Stewart (2004–2010)
Rachel McAdams (2010–2013)
Sarah Silverman (2014–2018)

I enjoyed it, particularly Sheen.

Am watching right now.
Ruth Wilson’s Maitland voice is a touch foghorn.
Sheen is very good, his grin aside.
He and Fergie are vile. Beatrice is as thick as mince.

I have absolutely no interest in watching either Scoop or A Very Royal Scandal and find the hype over the Andrew interview quite strange.
Before the interview Andrew was a deeply unpopular member of the royal family who was a fringe figure and most people thought he was a dirty old man. Nothing has changed since then. There aren't even any instinctively contrarian personalities supporting him. The interview didn't change anyone's minds and the main outcome was a load of Pizza Express Woking memes on Twitter.
The competing projects was more interesting - Scoop was obviously out first and based on Sam McAllister who picked the much younger Billie Piper to play her, and in Royal Affair she's played by a little known actress.
The main casting difference is Keeley Hawkes and Joanna Scanlon playing the same person! I can't think of 2 actresses so different.

I think Michael Sheen in real life is a homosexual in spite of his blatant heterosexuality in recent years.

This is such an undramatic and unappealing story. Why was it made into a film twice?

He has played a lot of very mimicable public figures.
Tony Blair, Kenneth Williams, David Frost, Brian Clough, Chris Tarrant, Nye Bevan and himself.

His performance gives Andrew a very sympathetic note, Sheen is an excellent actor.
Her performance is irritating, Maitliss is narcissistic and this is a self congratulatory love letter from her to herself.

Ruth Wilson is an awful actress in my opinion. I thought the last season of The Affair, which she wasn't on, was greatly improved by her absence. Of course, it didn't help that her character had been so annoyingly written--much of which was apparently at her own insistence.

I liked Wilson a lot on Luther, but this portrayal left me cold. The lady is ridiculously serious.
Andrew is a twat. Sheen always does a good job playing knobs.

How do they portray Fergie and the daughters?

Remember when people had careers, not "journeys"?

It's quite sad that Maitlis has embarrassed herself with ill informed opinions presented as facts now she's working for a profit making podcast.

I love Sheen.
