Tasteful friends: Sandford Orcas Manor

Grade 1 listed, dating from the 16th century, with 19th century additions. Pleasant grounds. Excellent public (i..e. Private) schools nearby and a short 2-hour train to London Waterloo.

I quite like it, although it’s a little disappointing that only the more modern rooms seem lived in. They are perhaps more practical, but the old part of the house really needs some attention, and to be filled with tapestries, books, objets, and interesting, comfortable old furniture. I wish I was rich enough to spend my days just buying objects to fill these rooms.

The wood panelling is a little oppressive, though, and removal will not be permitted in any case. The external building is a little drab, so I would want to replant the nearest part of the garden to surround it with colour. And the modern (blue!) kitchen is atrocious.

What thinkest thou, D/Ler?
