But who is the audience for this?

Even that shot looks like a CMBYN ripoff.

Me! I'm the audience!

I'll see it for the gay content even though I'm sick to death of on-screen portrayals of drug and alcohol addiction.

Just release it already. I hate it when movies that require little post production take an age to be released.
Started shooting in April 2023, premieres at Venice in September 2024, let me guess... general release in summer 2025?

Thankfully it has A24 and they usually have good release strategies.
But this seems like something that would have been good to release in the summer. I haven’t been to a movie in ages.

I see a problem with the film
The lead is too sexy to be believably awkward
You can see his pectoral muscles through his shirt
No one would snicker at him

The audience is for people like me. I live in Chicago. It's a 15 min walk to a nice locally owned and operated movie theater. Despite AMC and Regal having MUCH better seats (recliners etc), I choose to stick with the neighborhood theater who make a point to save one of their four scenes for these artsy movies. So, I'm sure this is on their radar. If not, I'll catch it at AMC.
Since theater attendance has plummeted, I've enjoyed loads of late afternoon movies in near empty theaters. So, going to the movies is a joy!
Yes, I'll throw $10 to see this in a theater. A good gay film gets my money. Which is why I didn't go see "Bros" in the theater. This movie looks good. I can't wait.

[Quote]QUEER is a profound story about obsessive queer love. from intimacy to surrealism, it is easily luca guadagnino’s most complex and emotional film to date. daniel craig delivers haunting work with a never seen before vulnerability. a star is born in drew starkey #TIFF24
Sounds good to me.

Queers are the audience

Another good one:
[Quote]Luca Guadagnino’s QUEER is intoxicating. Loved the translucent storytelling, the super romantic score, Daniel Craig’s exquisite performance, wonderful work by Drew Starkey. This is Luca at his most surreal, with a stunner of an ending. #TIFF24

And another:
[Quote]Big fan of Luca Guadagnino’s QUEER. So sad, tenderly romantic and visually perfect in every regard! Puts into perspective how love can be a literal drug. Capturing the pain, elusiveness and addiction of obsessive love. Daniel Craig is simply extraordinary, the Nirvana use is A+, and I didn’t know what peak form Jason Schwartzman looked like until now! #TIFF24
