Is it worth seeing? Or would I be bored with it?
Door County, Wisconsin

Nana, my fraternal grandmother, spoke highly of it.
And she was one pretentious, bitchy cunt.

Beautiful and welcoming. Comprised of various small villages, all equally charming and very artsy. The only place you'd find a restaurant with goats dining on the roof!

Goats?
That alone sold me!
by Anonymous | reply 3 | September 2, 2024 1:15 AM |
Amazingly beautiful
by Anonymous | reply 4 | September 2, 2024 1:35 AM |
It’s sweet and beautiful. A bit touristy in some parts but Midwest touristy so not obnoxious. And, yes, they have goats on roofs.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | September 2, 2024 1:38 AM |
You can act uppity there and fit in.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | September 2, 2024 1:57 AM |
Can you get fucked hard there?

Someone on DL keeps asking about Door County every few months. Yes, it's heaven on Earth, yes, it's America's best kept secret, yes, it's where everyone should go to die. Now get the fish fry this Friday and GTFO.

I've been looking for a vacation spot with few windows, so this county sounds like paradise. Door County, here I come!

The fish boil is overrated but the cherry pie is delicious..
by Anonymous | reply 10 | September 2, 2024 9:38 AM |
The name alone certainly does spark the imagination!
by Anonymous | reply 11 | September 2, 2024 1:44 PM |
White people love it 👍
by Anonymous | reply 12 | September 2, 2024 1:52 PM |
It's gorgeous and Wisconsin is relatively cheap.

If you want a true 5 star property and not go all the way up to Door County, there is the American Club in Kohler. Yes, the town is named after a toilet. They have a high end showroom so you can buy stylish fixtures for your home.

Here's an excellent sour cherry pie recipe that does not require a lattice top. Use frozen montmorency cherries if you can't get fresh.

My old debate partner has a place there.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | September 2, 2024 3:59 PM |
Well, it ain't no Lake of the Ozarks....
by Anonymous | reply 17 | September 2, 2024 6:37 PM |
R14, Kohler, WI is named after the Kohler family who own Kohler faucets, toilets etc. The town is named after the family, not the toilets.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | September 2, 2024 9:48 PM |
I think R14 was “trying” to be funny.

I went to the University of Wisconsin and one of my roommates was from Door County!

Al Johnson’s Restaurant has goats! 🐐
by Anonymous | reply 21 | September 2, 2024 10:50 PM |
I think it was named after the toilets. Nobody cares about the Kohler family.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | September 3, 2024 3:51 AM |
But fancy fixtures in a spa hotel, well that's a competitive advantage

I remember the lake perch, lots of Molson (Canadian beer in Wisconsin!), and cheese curds. The antiques and their prices are tourist grade. I believe every old farm and cottage has been looted by now.

My parents went on their honeymoon there
by Anonymous | reply 28 | September 3, 2024 12:19 PM |
My parents took us there was I was about 9. We stayed at a place called the Happy Scandinavian. I’m sure it’s no longer there. No tv in the room. Set dining times. Choice of two entrees. Had to eat at a table with other guests one of whom was a mortician. Petting zoo. Polka band on Saturday night. Lots of lake activities. Paddleboats my brother and I could take out alone. Kind people. Honestly one of the best vacations of my life. Go.

In Door County, WI all seems to breathe freedom and peace and to make one forget the world and its sad turmoils.

I Googled "Door County photos" - it's a very pretty place (in the summer), but the overall "feel" reminds me of this:

It's adorable. It's like a threshold to middle America, a little window into another world. The trip will hinge on the weather so best to lock down your choice early.

Don't forget prime rib on Saturday!

Door County is like the Midwestern version of hitting maybe Portland, Maine. It’s pure Americana, completely white, highly liberal, homey but still sophisticated at the same time. It is true that the people are absolutely lovely and I truly enjoyed it especially the nature! It’s also touristy and kitschy, but not obnoxiously so. It’s mainly middle aged and elderly white professionals, sprinkled in with a few white middle aged lesbian witches.
My girlfriend kayaks on one of the lakes up there, on a Halloween at the moonrise she went to see the stars, and there was a group of maybe 12 women dressed in witches hats and dresses, likely slightly drunk, kayaking out onto the lake to celebrate. Now THOSE are my people lol! Apparently this little group does this each Halloween.
This is not a photo of them, it was at during the deep night, but it looked kind of like this….a moonlight kayak.

Kohler toilets are trash. Had 2 in a row. Finally wised up and got Totos.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | September 4, 2024 2:15 AM |
For me, who doesn't like especially like lakes or the Midwestern things or Wisconsin and it's accents, the Museum of Kohler Urinals might we'll be the highlight.

I saw another Kohler commissioned toilet, "The Sheboygan Men's Room," but on display in Chicago.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | September 4, 2024 12:48 PM |
R39, I didn't know men in Sheboygan were so kinky!
