Is this latest catastrophe with the hostages finally the end for Netanyahu?

People are flooding the streets of Israel's cities right now to protest Netanyahu's mishandling of the hostage negotiations that ended up with five Israelis and one Israeli-American being executed by Hamas. A nationwide general strike has been called for Monday.

I'm wondering if this will finally get this jerk out of office.

No

One can only hope but I don’t believe this will happen. He’s an asshole of Trumpian proportions.

by Anonymousreply 2September 1, 2024 5:32 PM

I would be surprised if Trump doesn’t have something to do with Bibi rejecting the ceasefire deal. Reporting was out that those two scumbags had a call and that Trump said the ceasefire would help Harris. I don’t believe a word either of them says about anything and we know Trump likes to ask foreign leaders for campaign help and he couldn’t care less about hostages, Israel even the US.

Netanyahu will be pushed out by the even worse, even more reactionary Ben Gvir and Smotrich. Netanyahu is the ultimate cynic, who believes in nothing but clinging to his own power, but they are even more dangerous.

by Anonymousreply 4September 1, 2024 5:40 PM

You can’t negotiate with terrorists.

by Anonymousreply 5September 1, 2024 5:44 PM

Some Israelis like to say they live in a "kakistocracy": a government run by the worst, least qualified, or most unscrupulous citizens.

The left-leaning Haaretz is a good source of Israeli news:

Geez, a general strike on Monday. A lotta good that’ll do, it’s Labor Day.

by Anonymousreply 9September 1, 2024 5:59 PM

US-centric much?

by Anonymousreply 10September 1, 2024 6:01 PM

R3. Just a correction. It was a woodruff anecdote, which she retracted.

by Anonymousreply 11September 1, 2024 6:02 PM

R9 also asks: "Do they have the Fourth of July in other countries?"

by Anonymousreply 12September 1, 2024 6:03 PM

Animosity towards Netanyahu has been growing.

Good.

It is well past time for Netanyahu to go.

by Anonymousreply 15September 1, 2024 6:10 PM

Geez R10 and 12! I said I was just kidding.

I'd never heard of skunk water before. Nasty.

He needs to go and he should have been ousted years ago. He’s been able to stay in power by accommodating the far right in order to get his (now fragile) coalition. Like DJT, his only goal is to stay in power to avoid the consequences of his corrupt past. He is a danger not only to Gazans but to Israelis as well.

Police using stun grenades. Labor party legislator hurt.

by Anonymousreply 20September 1, 2024 8:33 PM

Here's hoping he's gone by the end of the month.

by Anonymousreply 21September 3, 2024 1:32 AM

How many hostages are left?

by Anonymousreply 22September 3, 2024 1:51 AM

[quote] How many hostages are left?

The last estimate I heard was 97.

by Anonymousreply 23September 3, 2024 2:02 AM

The hostages are dead.

Netanyahu is waging a News Cycle war.

Bibi will kill a bunch of people, Hamas will not surrender, the media will get worked up and fade in 14 days.

Rinse, repeat.

by Anonymousreply 24September 3, 2024 2:05 AM

Hamas is talking about killing more.

by Anonymousreply 25September 3, 2024 2:10 AM

Hamas does not want any prisoner to tell the story of their captivity.

That is why they killed their prisoners in the tunnel.

Those corpses were fresh.

by Anonymousreply 26September 3, 2024 2:29 AM

For every person related to a prisoner of war....look up the definition of terrorist.

by Anonymousreply 27September 3, 2024 2:33 AM

I'm not even sure what r27 means.

by Anonymousreply 28September 3, 2024 3:37 AM

r27 means you cannot negotiate with terrorists.

by Anonymousreply 29September 3, 2024 10:44 AM

Israel could have got those hostages back if they had not pursued war and destruction first. If they were conniving, they could have patiently negotiated their release and AFTER, destroyed Gaza.

by Anonymousreply 30September 3, 2024 10:59 AM

100% R30. I have always thought the exact same thing. There was never any real effort to get the hostages back. The effort was put into retribution - destroying the infrastructure of Gaza and turning it into a moonscape and killing and maiming as many children and women as Israel could legitimately get away with before the US and other western countries put their foot down. Now the hostages are all dead and those that aren't will be soon.

Finally it looks like the Israeli people are turning on Netanyahu.

by Anonymousreply 31September 3, 2024 11:04 AM

[quote]Israel could have got those hostages back

No, Hamas does not want live survivors telling their stories about captivity and torture after 10/7.

by Anonymousreply 32September 3, 2024 11:13 AM

R32 I'm not convinced. For the right "give back" and PRICE, those hostages could have been returned.

by Anonymousreply 33September 3, 2024 11:15 AM

Mind you, Israel had the right to retaliate and did so. But that "right" does not mean it was the only option. I think they sealed the hostages' doom by the magnitude of their response.

by Anonymousreply 34September 3, 2024 11:18 AM

The final solution for Israel:

One state, no more Gaza, no more West Bank.

All hostages killed.

Netanyahu goes to jail.

by Anonymousreply 35September 3, 2024 11:49 AM

Thank you r29. I thiught it meant that the relatives of hostages themselves are terrorists and needed a reminder by looking up the definition. Sadly, I'm sure some antisemites believe it.

by Anonymousreply 36September 3, 2024 12:41 PM

[quote] Hamas does not want live survivors telling their stories about captivity and torture after 10/7.

Haven’t over a hundred hostages already been released? Can’t you do the slightest bit of research R32?
