Tasteful friends: in Bucharest, an 1894 Beaux Arts mansion, €1,350,000
[At the request of a poster in a recent Tasteful Friends Buenos Aires apartment edition 00 the poster asked for an interesting apartment, but this is what I turned up in place fo some not very interesting apartments.]
In the Dealul Mitropoliei, or Patriarchate Hill, a center of monumental architecture and Romanian history is the Costa-Foru House or 'hotel particulier,' now an historic monument for its architecture and family associations. It was erected 1894-1895 by a There are 16 main rooms, 10 bedrooms, and 6 bathrooms within the 1340m2 house (14,425 square feet.) The piano nobile has a large living room lit by the very large widnows of the facade with decorative wrought iron work. Floors are of terrazzo with ancient Roman motifs, elsewhere floors are in geometric patterned bydraulic tile and other materials. There is extensive cast plasterwork in the French classical inspired details of the exterior, and elaborate ornamentation including the fireplaces (though the polychrome metal example at photos 9. 13, 15 is hideous, cherubim and all, the rest -- including some excellent Arab-inspired tilework fireplaces-- I have no complaint with. ) The top floor under the Mansard roof has some need for renovation, the rest of the house, or the very incomplete glimpse from 30 photos looks in remarkably good condition.)

Bucharest is unrecognisable from even a decade ago, it's crazy how fast Romania is growing. So much faster than Bulgaria, too.

That's a lovely place in a rather Eastern European way. Cant imagine it would be easy to heat though

10 bedrooms but not a single pic of any of them? Is this how real estate is sold in Romania?? Not worthy of tasteful friends thread if you can’t critique the whole place. Do better OP

Thank you, OP for responding to my request! The video shows the layout better than just the pics. I loved Bucharest and Romania when I visited. Would love to retire to Romania or Bulgaria.

Gorgeous - places like this make me want to know the entire history of the building - who lived there, scandals, affairs, communist takeover, etc.

I shudder to think what it will look like once the inevitable Russian oligarch gets his hands on it.

Warm, cozy, easy to maintain and clean, very livable. Put in one of those stair lifts and sign me up!

It has ZERO delicacy. But I would enjoy the challenge of finding the design to make it liveable yet impressive.

Some of the interior details are fun, but better suited to a more rustic house. I could see the fireplaces in a hunting lodge or sham castle.
The exterior is cold and vulgar.

The top floor needs to be reconstructed to give it the facade the correct scale, and I bet those rooms have not held up well. Also, add a rooftop terrace.

I'd cut a farthing in half and toss it at the place.
But if they seemed to take it I'd run for the border.

R15, the link I used at OP works for me, but here's a different one to try.
Or search on "costa-foru house" "for sale"
