Queen Camilla "Is a Little Afraid" of Prince William, and He Simply "Tolerates Her"

Much has been written about Prince William's alleged relationship with his stepmother, Queen Camilla.

Reports suggested the pair finally "bonded" while facing the news their spouses both had cancer. It's also been noted Prince William found an "unlikely" ally in Queen Camilla. However, an allegedly tumultuous first meeting hasn't completely been erased from history.

Queen Camilla first met Prince William in 1998. To put things into perspective, William's mother, Princess Diana, had died the previous year. His parents, King Charles and Princess Diana, had finalized their divorce in 1996, after announcing their separation four years prior. Rumors persisted for years that King Charles and Queen Camilla were engaged in an affair, which is also unlikely to have endeared her to William.

Speaking exclusively to Us Weekly, royal author Christopher Andersen said of Camilla's first meeting with William in 1998, "She was shaking like a leaf." He continued, "As soon as William left, she said she needed a gin and tonic."

While their first meeting was allegedly far from perfect, their relations have apparently improved in the years since. A source close to Camilla told Us Weekly, "William has warmed up to Camilla over time... they have a familial relationship these days."

However, it goes without saying that Camilla had her work cut out for her when joining the royal family. "William and Harry had always distrusted Camilla and felt resentment toward her because of their devotion to their mother," a source alleged to the publication. "They never felt comfortable opening up to her in any real way."

The source also suggested that Camilla's way of dealing with the press was viewed negatively by both Harry and William. "William and Harry’s distrust grew when they found out Camilla was leaking stories to the press to make herself look better," the source claimed.

As for where Camilla and William stand in 2024, Andersen told Us Weekly, "He tolerates her." He also noted that Camilla "has always been a little afraid of William."

Camilla, you in danger, girl.

by Anonymousreply 1August 27, 2024 3:31 AM

“Oh that Camilla is afraid of me, thwarting her plan to destroy this country. 20 million people coming through. Can you believe it?”

by Anonymousreply 2August 27, 2024 4:04 AM

[quote] He also noted that Camilla "has always been a little afraid of William."

And whom does William fear?

by Anonymousreply 3August 27, 2024 4:29 AM

Don’t look at me. I’m just an innocent young girl.

by Anonymousreply 4August 27, 2024 4:30 AM

At this point, who doesn’t William have beef with? He’s a cunt.

by Anonymousreply 5August 27, 2024 4:32 AM

It's not like this is I, Claudius or The Serpent Queen. Camilla just isn't interested in power. When Charles dies, she'll just retire to her Gloucestershire estate and read novels and ride horses and be visited by her children and grandchildren. She will likely be left millions by Charles and never have to worry about money.

King William V will trot her out on the balcony for the Trooping of Color and other big occasions to show family unity, and that will be that. Catherine reportedly gets along very well with her and will be happy to see her--if Catherine survives to become queen.

That's not the point of the article.

It's not about money or power.

It's about the fact that William is an absolute CUNT.

William the Terrible.

Marie Claire is a Sussex outlet. This is Harry and Meghan trying to sow division, and make a much-needed buck.

by Anonymousreply 10August 27, 2024 8:48 AM

Who bows to who?

by Anonymousreply 11August 27, 2024 11:22 AM

We need better sources! This is a snooze. I want to know about William's and Harry's mistresses their sexual proclivities. More details about William's love of pegging, for example.

by Anonymousreply 12August 27, 2024 11:39 AM

I'm more than a little afraid of William, and is nothing to me - just some idiot who lives in the UK. There's something disturbing about his looks.

by Anonymousreply 13August 27, 2024 11:43 AM

Diana confided in William and shared all her unhappiness with him when he was still a child. It would not be surprising if he had great resentment towards his father and Camilla.

by Anonymousreply 14August 27, 2024 11:47 AM

He diesn't. Their relationship is by all accounts is fine.

by Anonymousreply 17August 27, 2024 2:29 PM

Sometimes, the correct just won’t do.

by Anonymousreply 18August 27, 2024 2:33 PM

Right now, William has to bow to Camilla. He is only HRH, and she is HM.

Eventually they will both be HM. She will curtsy to him as the sitting monarch, and he will bow to her to indicate deference to someone older with the same rank as his own.

by Anonymousreply 25August 27, 2024 4:34 PM

To R3 William fears no one, right now he's in the driver seat.

Maybe his wife a little, but Catherine is "super popular right now".

by Anonymousreply 26August 27, 2024 4:44 PM

How old is she? She probably is old enough that there isn't much left to be afraid of. Chuck will see to it that she's taken care of in her dotage.

by Anonymousreply 27August 27, 2024 4:47 PM

Exactly, R5.

No one likes him.

William's family just "tolerates" him.

He doesn't get along with Camilla, or Andrew, and he hates Harry.

He had a hand in getting Beatrice and Eugenie removed from being working royals.(until he needed them).

And the only one left is Edward and Sophie, who seem indifferent to him. They get along, but they're not close.

Who does that leave? No one.

They all respect his position as the future king, but it's safe to say that none of them really like him.

by Anonymousreply 28August 27, 2024 5:27 PM

R28 When were Beatrice or Eugenie ever working royals?

You're so completely clueless.

by Anonymousreply 29August 27, 2024 5:31 PM

I didn't see her rushing to Mehgan Markle's or Harry's defense.

by Anonymousreply 35August 27, 2024 8:50 PM

I can't picture Camilla being afraid of anyone, let alone the pissy 40 year old son of her long-term partner. She was a middle-aged woman when he was born.

by Anonymousreply 36August 27, 2024 8:55 PM

Camilla the nag should've been sent to the Tower decades ago.

[quote] They all respect his position as the future king, but it's safe to say that none of them really like him.

So?

The future King of the UK doesn't have to sweat it if somebody doesn't like him. On the other hand, those in the immediate orbit of the future King have to bother with whether he likes you.

Based on the videos I've watched of William in public "on duty", he's polished, prepared, professional, engaged and seems to actually focus on whoever he's listening to.

There is a BAFTA video which shows of none other than Spike Lee, of all people, starry-eyed when Prince William is speaking to him.

I have no doubt, behind the scenes, in private, if you're not William's Cup of Tea, he has no hesitation engaging a cool distance.

Even though I dislike Markle, that's one of the things about which I've always felt sympathy for her. William simply dislikes her. That had to be very difficult for her to maneuver.

As for Camilla, I'll take Tina Brown's word for it that both William and Harry have been on good terms with her for a long time.

Until "Spare", that is.

by Anonymousreply 38August 27, 2024 9:08 PM

Wills will send her to the knackers and let Louis use the glue in school.

by Anonymousreply 39August 27, 2024 9:19 PM

William was 100% right anout Markle. When she was a cunt to his wife and staff, he cut her and her handbag loose with a quickness.

by Anonymousreply 40August 27, 2024 9:34 PM

R42 you have to realise that R28 is privy to the intimate thoughts and feelings of the extended British Royal Family.

You must be a close friend of theirs, aren’t you, R28? And not some lunatic fantasist with no life?

by Anonymousreply 44August 28, 2024 12:54 AM

What is she afraid of? Is she concerned that as soon as Charles dies William is going to scream, "Off with her head!"

What can he actually do to her? Anyone here from England care to comment and enlighten me?

by Anonymousreply 45August 28, 2024 1:17 AM

by Anonymousreply 46August 28, 2024 1:19 AM

R45 you really shouldn’t believe everything that you read in marieclaire.

“Anything”, rather.

by Anonymousreply 47August 28, 2024 1:33 AM

The original article says that she was “a little afraid” of him when they first met: of course she was! She the mistress, the “other woman” who had replaced his much-loved mother. Who wouldn’t be nervous of his reaction?

Fortunately, Harry decided to attack William, Kate and Camilla in his years-long Whingeathon, which must have done wonders for their relationship with each other. - nothing is more bonding than a common enemy.

Realistically speaking, what could William do to her anyway, even if he was William the Terrible, the gothic horror character some so dearly wish him to be? Camilla is a survivor. She was utterly despised by half the nation, and just kept her chin up and waited for the hostility to cease. She found a few causes she could devote her time to, and earned a respected place in public life.

At worst, Camilla is likely to be an extremely wealthy eightysomething year-old widow with her own children and grandchildren who have always been devoted to her, spending her time at her beloved Wiltshire home. William (if he really is as mean as a snake) could ask her to leave Clarence House and make her unwelcome at Royal Family gatherings and public events, but if so she has another happy, retired relaxed life waiting for her. She’ll be fine.

by Anonymousreply 48August 28, 2024 1:59 AM

Some of the idiots on these threads sincerely believe that William will order “off with her head!” or throw her in The Tower of London, from where she will never be seen again, existing on a daily bowl of gruel.

In reality her widowhood, should Charles die first, will be that described in R48 - pots of money, her own country house which she already has, surrounded by friends and family and dogs. I’ll add - with many G&Ts with her girlfriends.

Sounds pretty good to me!

by Anonymousreply 49August 28, 2024 2:15 AM

She’s worked hard all of her life, she deserves it!

by Anonymousreply 50August 28, 2024 2:17 AM

Well of course she’s afraid of him. Her lifestyle after Charles dies is entirely dependent on William’s whims. Yes, Charles will leave her plenty of money but Camilla likes socializing and being in the press, she loves the power of being Queen Consort. She doesn’t want to lay low in the countryside. She has to get into William’s favor in order to remain a part of royal life and he is an unforgiving difficult to please person.

by Anonymousreply 51August 28, 2024 2:25 AM

[quote] She’s worked hard all of her life, she deserves it!

William will put her out to pasture, like a good old work horse.

by Anonymousreply 52August 28, 2024 2:27 AM

You know Camilla, do you, R51? She’s told you all this?

Or are you a really bad fan fic writer, chugging down boxed wine, fantasizing about people who wouldn’t piss in you if you were on fire?

by Anonymousreply 53August 28, 2024 2:35 AM

Camilla isn’t afraid. That’s just old lady incontinence.

by Anonymousreply 54August 28, 2024 2:36 AM

R51, Camilla never wanted to be Queen. She was so thrilled to marry Charles that she wouldn’t get out of bed on the big day until her sister threatened to walk down the aisle with Charles herself.

by Anonymousreply 55August 28, 2024 2:37 AM

Once Charles dies, Camilla will become Queen Whorse.

by Anonymousreply 56August 28, 2024 2:38 AM

by Anonymousreply 58August 28, 2024 3:46 AM

R51 proving that he/she/it knows absolutely nothing about her based on contemporary accounts of Queen Camilla.

Why do you Americans even bother?

by Anonymousreply 59August 28, 2024 3:59 AM

Once Charles croaks, will Camilla have to depend on the grace of King William for anything? For some reason, I thought she was set in her own right. Are there any traditions about what you do with a windowed Queen?

by Anonymousreply 60August 28, 2024 4:01 AM

R60 I doubt that you are losing any sleep over this. But just to set you at your ease - Camilla will be looked after in the same way that her predecessors Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, Queen Mary and Queen Alexandra were looked after in their widowhoods - in great style and with great comfort.

She already has her own house in Wiltshire. Her children have both been set up with generous trust funds by the King, who will certainly have already set her up with many millions of pounds and other assets to help her enjoy her twilight years. She won't be dependent on her stepson William for anything other than a possible other house or two in London and maybe somewhere else? If she wanted that. Bottom line - if William decided to kick her out of Clarence House (or Birkhall, Castle of Mey, that cottage in Wales or Charels's village in Transilvania (I kid you not)) he could, but why bother? He has plenty all his own and there's no evidence that he wants to see her on the street, cleaning windscreens with a dirty rag on the Mall, for spare change. And if she really really wanted to buy something else, she could well afford it.

You Americans really need to stop watching Game of Thrones and The Crown. Real life isn't like that.

R61, every one of those Queens were the mother of a future sovereign.

Camilla needs be shown the courtesy of Mrs. Kepple. Wills needs to remove her HRH as well.

I would carry it one step further and issue letters patent that her dowager style is to be Queen Charles.

by Anonymousreply 64August 28, 2024 6:26 AM

[quote] It’s common sense [R53]. Charles purged who he wanted when he took over and so will William.

Who, of any importance equivalent to Camilla, did Charles “purge”? It was hardly a bloodbath. He made redundancies amongst lower-level staff, and got rid of Angela “AK47” Kelly, but even in her case he had to give her a house for life to make her go quietly. He hasn’t even successfully made Andrew (whose public standing really could not be any. lower) give up his huge 20-bedroom palace.

[quote] Once Charles croaks, will Camilla have to depend on the grace of King William for anything? For some reason, I thought she was set in her own right.

She is set in her own right for the upper-class countrywoman lifestyle she was born to lead. She has her Wiltshire home, which is nowhere near as grand as a royal residence, but it’s a very comfortable home for a member of the landed gentry. Most of us would consider ourselves very fortunate to be able to afford it.

She would probably be reliant on William if she wanted to have a huge retinue of staff and be an active “Queen Mother” type of dowager, but there is zero sign that that is her ambition. She has accepted her role in public life as a consequence of her marriage to Charles, but she has never been especially keen on the spotlight, which for decades involved daily articles telling the public that she was the wicked witch. And she is neither the mother of the future King, nor is she in her 50s as Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother was when she was widowed.

If Camilla wants to retreat entirely from public life, she herself has (and has always had) enough cash to live quietly with a handful of staff in Wiltshire, seeing her friends and family and holidaying as she wishes. And realistically, does anyone doubt that Charles has failed to put enough cash aside for her to live extremely lavishly if she so wishes?

I get that it is fun to see the Royal Family as a soap opera, and that William is the current favourite baddie (or avenging angel?) here on the D/L), but the idea of him seeking melodramatic revenge on Camilla is absurd. She’ll fade out of her royal duties and become a peripheral figure the way many elderly royals do as they age, but she will keep her titles and probably her homes because without Charles her relevance will dwindle anyway. William, whatever his personal feelings, will know how it would look if he were to attack his father’s elderly consort and the nation’s former Queen. She was Charles’ choice and was crowned beside him in Westminster Abbey, and she will keep that dignity.

by Anonymousreply 67August 28, 2024 8:58 AM

R64 if you haven’t done so already may I suggest that you take up your incredibly valuable suggestions with:

Apparently the royal household loves getting advice from very stupid Americans so your letter will make their day!

by Anonymousreply 68August 28, 2024 10:49 AM

r67: Why was Charles so eager to get Angela Kelly out of town? I know she wasn't his aide, but why couldn't she live quietly live out her life in her grace and favor home on the Windsor property?

by Anonymousreply 69August 28, 2024 11:16 AM

R69, Kelly had been granted the right by Queen Elizabeth to publish 3 books on her life and experiences as the Queen’s aide. She published 2 fairly innocuous books in The Queen’s lifetime, but had the power tomtwrite a third after her death. It could have poured fuel on the fire of the dispute with Harry, as Kelly was at the centre of tiaragate. And Kelly could have written at length about the late Queen’s decline in her last year or two, and of any indignities, illness and sorrows she suffered.

By buying her a home for life, Charles got rid of Kelly (who was known for her blunt manner and unpopular with many other royal staff), bought her silence and preserved the dignity and privacy which wasnso important to QEII.

by Anonymousreply 70August 28, 2024 11:23 AM

Don't believe half the stuff written or reported about these people. As Olivia Coleman tells Gillian Anderson in The Crown, newspapers "misunderstand, misquote, and misrepresent, then everyone gets into a fluster."

Did William not like Camilla in the beginning? No doubt, but he's probably warmed to her or just "tolerates" her, because she's his father's wife. His attitude towards her won't change that. And being at odds with her will only cause grief. That's the lesson his younger brother with the wife who wants to be the star attraction never learned. And the younger brother aired his antipathy towards the woman to make money. And that cost him his relationship with his father and brother...a relationship that will never be repaired.

by Anonymousreply 71August 28, 2024 11:37 AM

No, Camilla is not “set for life”. The monarch cuts the checks and if William decides to cut her off when he’s in power, he can. They cut Harry off — they can cut anyone off.

by Anonymousreply 74September 1, 2024 5:10 PM

[quote]No, Camilla is not “set for life”. The monarch cuts the checks and if William decides to cut her off when he’s in power, he can.

If Charles set up a trust fund for Camilla, there is nothing William can do. The money is already in the Bank of England (or a Postal account 🤣) and William can’t touch it.

by Anonymousreply 75September 1, 2024 5:28 PM

by Anonymousreply 76September 1, 2024 5:33 PM

I think, based on what I read, it's likely pretty much the whole family hated Kelly. She was fierce and had one boss. If she didn't manage to piss off members of the family directly she was such a tough bitch to everyone else on staff that a whisper campaign probably made members of the family dislike her. It's the fate of anybody who serves the very person at the top too well and too closely... those who can't get round them wait them out. Kelly's fate was inevitable.

by Anonymousreply 77September 1, 2024 5:35 PM

[quote] Well of course she’s afraid of him. Her lifestyle after Charles dies is entirely dependent on William’s whims.

"Entirely dependent"? Absolutely not. You're ridiculously exaggerating things.

She is already independently wealthy and owns her very large house in Wiltshire. It is inconceivable Charles won't leave her even more money in his William, and William cannot tocuh that even if he wanted to. She is and will continue to be extremely rich.

William cannot touch that money even when he becomes king, nor could he ever, ever, ever change her title as Her Majesty, which she has now for life. (Even George IV could not take that title away from his estranged wife Caroline of Brunswick.) All William could do is kick her out of her London residence of Clarence House, and not invite her to family get-togethers or balcony appearances at Buck House. Big deal.

by Anonymousreply 78September 1, 2024 5:38 PM

by Anonymousreply 79September 1, 2024 6:08 PM

I said what I had to say about this earlier in the thread. Yes she will have money. But her status as a royal family member depends on William. There is a significant lifestyle difference between being rich and being a royal. Camilla enjoys the power and privilege, the army of servants, the access to the media, and the people sucking up to her, always has always will.

r87, the BRF members, are the primary Ambassadors for the British Tourism Bureau.

They are the living embodiment of all those buildings and the histories they embody.

They are PRICELESS and Chucks sister and brothers aren't going to live forever.

The investment goes to Wills and his children.

Now that primogeniture is history, I would only suggest that Charlotte be made a ROYAL DUKE in her own right. Letters patent issued that her children, and progeny, carry her name.

R91 have you been drinking?

by Anonymousreply 92September 2, 2024 11:15 AM

[quote]As soon as William left, she said she needed a gin and tonic.

[quote]To be fair, she says that at least 37 times a day.

Who doesn't?

[quote]They'll be lucky if they make if past King Charles.

I thought they were supposed to be lucky if they survived the death of the Queen?

And yet...

The tiara queens are back! Why do some Americans get so overheated about stuff that doesn’t affect them? Most people in the UK don’t care. They are remote figures to the vast majority here.

by Anonymousreply 95September 2, 2024 1:44 PM

Trivia: Camilla's ex husband, Andrew Parker Bowles, is dating Anne You Are the Weakest Link Robinson.

Ah, don’t spoil the fun, r95. I enjoy the US D/Lers view of the Royal Family and dire predictions of the moment when the new King William V storms out from the deathbed of His Late Majesty and drags the dowager queen out the gates of Buckingham Palace leaving her to eke out a living as a char lady in the East End, wistfully recalling the time when she controlled the destinies of her subjects on a mere whim….

Because R95, it's so much fun ripping apart a bunch of bickering, inbred nonentities who can only talk about dogs, horses, and hunting. They are ripe for satire!

Look at the cast:

Charles who once wished to be reincarnated as a tampon in the trousers of his mistress

Camilla, the chain-smoking shellacked-haired mistress nicknamed "The Rottweiler" by her lover's then wife who got the Crown!

William who pushed his brother into a dog bowl

Harry who whines about getting the smaller room and is married to a pushy, social climbing American

And then there's...

Diana -- What gay man cannot resist the tragedy of her entire life and death?

Catherine...What gay man cannot resist the tragedy of her illness?

And R95...what do you expect at a gay gossip site bt a bunch of Tiara Queens?

I fancy the Kokoshnik Tiara, thank you very much!

And I see the Anti-American Troll is EQUALLY back!

Sneer witheringly to us more about why we were are not allowed to comment on the British royal family because we are not Commonwealth subjects, AAT, and also about how all we know about history is from watching "The Crown"!

by Anonymousreply 99September 2, 2024 3:19 PM

Well, we put up with you, R98, so you can put up with them.

Luckily, once you're gone, there's no heir to carry on the noise.

by Anonymousreply 100September 2, 2024 3:20 PM

Jesus, this thread is BDSM with a string soundtrack and corsets.

by Anonymousreply 101September 2, 2024 3:21 PM

All kidding aside...here are some photos taken of Charles this past weekend. To me, he does not look well. They've never disclosed what type of cancer he was treated for. How successful was the treatment? You wonder how much time he has left. For that reason alone, I hope he does reconcile with his prodigal son and the two brothers reconcile with each other. Maybe this is fueling the recent articles about Harry seeking a return to some duties.

After Charles dies, I don't think Camilla will be a beloved figure who is out in public very much.

Of course, something could happen in the next few years and Camilla may rise to some occasion & people will love her.

Right now, I think she will fade into the background (after C dies).

I like the Strathmore rose tiara seen here on Kate.

Sure, R95.

And you'll be sitting there at the village fete the day of William's coronation, sucking down your swill and baring your crooked-headstone teeth at all the bunting, tears in your rheumy eyes.

by Anonymousreply 104September 2, 2024 7:04 PM

^and you'll be raging, as usual. haha

by Anonymousreply 105September 2, 2024 10:50 PM

Wow, great photos, R102. You've still got it.

by Anonymousreply 106September 2, 2024 11:56 PM

The Rottweiler is wise to be a little afraid.

by Anonymousreply 107September 3, 2024 5:03 AM

Still waiting for an example or two, R88 - I assume that your silence speaks for itself, and that you pulled that "factoid" out of your arse.

Don't make stuff up - you only make yourself look stupid - and you don't appear to need any help in this department, R88.

by Anonymousreply 108September 3, 2024 5:29 AM

“Luv, I do believe I smell your nappy pussy. Perhaps a wash is in order?”

by Anonymousreply 109September 3, 2024 7:43 AM

There have been rumors that Charles likely doesn't have much time left. And I'm worried about Catherine and that abdominal surgery that they knew would take weeks in hospital after.

May be a grim time coming for the royals - well, I guess it already is. Cancer treatment is horrid.

by Anonymousreply 110September 3, 2024 8:08 AM

Wills will send her to the knackers, and Louis will use the glue to paste her pictures into an album.

by Anonymousreply 111September 3, 2024 10:51 AM

R28: And the only one left is Edward and Sophie...

- please learn to count, dear.

Is r46 Teacunt?

by Anonymousreply 112September 3, 2024 11:46 AM

R105, the tactics you used on your mother don't work here.

There's no rage in pointing out your hypocrisy. I post from algorithms because you're so typical, cunt.

by Anonymousreply 113September 3, 2024 1:31 PM

[quote]There have been rumors that Charles likely doesn't have much time left.

I don't usually like this kind of speculation but I was struck by how old he looked in the photos out of Scotland recently.

by Anonymousreply 114September 3, 2024 4:43 PM

To R114-"I'm rooting for DEATH".... YEAH DEATH-KILL THE CHEATING LYING TAMPON KING!!!

by Anonymousreply 115September 3, 2024 5:00 PM

Chuck deserves a few more years before he takes the final trip to Sandringhan, "where he will die peacefully" in his sleep.

by Anonymousreply 116September 3, 2024 5:09 PM

R115, meds, NOW.
