Tasteful Friends, a sprawling compound owned by Bishop Hilliard

A Texas megachurch pastor's homage to bad taste and greed. This is listed as a parsonage so no taxes are paid.

Wish I had a better link.

The vacuum cleaner tracks on the rugs, especially the purple ones. Me dan ñañaras.

The Gospel of St. Matthew:19:23 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Truly I tell you, it is hard for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of heaven. 24 Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”

This must be a colored church.

Maybe for religious institutions to claim living space tax exempt status they should be held to the same limitations as Section 8 housing and am sure there is some low income cost limitation standard for non residential space somewhere. Or even better get rid of tax exemption for religious organizations.

This link may have a few more pics. There seems to be a link between Christianity and appallingly bad taste.

I don't get why evangelicals think it's okay for pastors to live in huge mansions and drive luxury cars.

by Anonymousreply 13August 22, 2024 2:43 PM

The main house looks like a funeral home from the outside. My guess is that the whole place is a white elephant because of all the out buildings. It's unlikely that anyone else will want all this---either do a tear down on the main house and turn this into a "normal" development or turn it into some kind of collection of group homes for the disabled. The decor is pretty tacky, but I wouldn't expect less from a megachurch guy.

by Anonymousreply 14August 22, 2024 2:46 PM

Independent evangelicals are unregulated by any religious authority. If they want to preach that Jesus wants us to be rich and live in luxury they find a willing audience who will pray for that. It’s more American huckster than religion.

Prosperity gospel R13. The lord will reward with wealth.

I love how the “elegant double staircase” is all slapped together using only (prefab() straight runs, no custom curved corner treads here. And you can easily spot many of the seams on those acres and acres of blank drywall.

The lovely owners. These may be the ones that got shit a few years ago for castigated their parishioners for not giving expensive enough gifts. They had sent out an approved gift list of high priced jewelry and designer bags and shit. Anyone who did not buy the approved gifts was called out.
