King Charles’ Funeral Plans Underway: ‘Death Is a Possibility’ for Ailing Royal Amid Cancer

The plans for King Charles III's funeral are currently underway as “death is a possibility” for the ailing royal.

“The business of planning his funeral has already begun,” an insider exclusively tells In Touch of the current monarch. “Unpleasant as it seems.”

In recent months, King Charles' health has been deteriorating. Buckingham Palace announced in February that he had been diagnosed with cancer just one week after his hospitalization for prostate surgery earlier that month.

Although the father of two, 75, has returned to royal duties, the insider says the going has been rough. “He’s making public appearances, but they’re for shorter periods of time,” notes the source. “He’s often whisked in by helicopter and then whisked out. After an engagement, he needs a good rest.” As In Touch has previously reported, he was given just two years to live after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

“The palace is giving the impression that Charles is on the mend, but he’s still very sick,” the insider explains. “Still, he’s the king and palace officials are practical enough to know death is a possibility.”

The king’s funeral plans code name is “Operation Menai Bridge,” named after a suspension bridge in Wales, a nod to King Charles III’s longtime role as the Prince of Wales. The minute-by-minute plan will begin to unfurl the moment of the 75-year-old’s death. First, the prime minister of the United Kingdom will be informed, followed by key personnel, setting the plan into motion.

What will follow is the official announcement of his demise, the period of official mourning and the details of his state funeral.

As viewers of The Crown have seen, the monarch’s funeral prep begins almost as soon as he ascends the throne. But with Charles battling cancer, insiders tell In Touch the monumental task — Charles’ mother Queen Elizabeth II’s 2022 death involved 10 days of events and 100 heads of state and thousands of military personnel — has become more urgent.

Buckingham Palace confirms Charles' funeral plans are updated on an ongoing basis.

When the time comes, the royals will be ready for a ceremony worthy of a King. Charles’ distinct tastes will no doubt be reflected in his funeral. The music lover commissioned new orchestral music for his May 2023 coronation, for example. An avid gardener and conservationist, he also used British wildflowers. “Officials will make sure a funeral for the king meets his wishes and expectations while following proper protocol,” the insider continues. “Charles at least can find some peace in that.”

Death is a certainty for King Charles, as it is for all of us. Never too early to start planning an extravagant sendoff.

Hold me David !

by Anonymousreply 2August 22, 2024 2:14 AM

Pancreatic cancer????? Damn if that's true it's not good.

by Anonymousreply 3August 22, 2024 2:15 AM

EEK

by Anonymousreply 4August 22, 2024 2:17 AM

There are a lot more articles coming out about Charles.

I'm fearful for his health.

William could be up to bat, sooner than expected.

by Anonymousreply 5August 22, 2024 2:21 AM

These are the same types of articles that were coming out before QE2 died.

by Anonymousreply 6August 22, 2024 2:22 AM

R5 Not much sooner than I expected. Charles has looked unwell for years and he became king at age 73. I wouldn't have ben surprised if he had croaked before his mother.

by Anonymousreply 7August 22, 2024 2:24 AM

It's taken all these years to be free

Of loving that man

Finding myself

And getting a hold of the anger in me

by Anonymousreply 8August 22, 2024 2:24 AM

Hopefully, as promised, Diana will get her HRH back. Can William do that posthumously?

by Anonymousreply 9August 22, 2024 2:26 AM

Why should Diana get that title back?

by Anonymousreply 10August 22, 2024 2:31 AM

And who cares, she's been dead for decades.

by Anonymousreply 11August 22, 2024 2:37 AM

R6… and your point? Considering QEII is indeed dead.

by Anonymousreply 12August 22, 2024 2:41 AM

The point is that the articles were just rumors at the time, R12.

But they turned out to be true.

These rumors don't just appear out of nowhere.

It's usually based on BRF gossip.

by Anonymousreply 13August 22, 2024 2:44 AM

In Touch would like to make everyone believe they have an inside scoop on his health, but they're a US-based tabloid mag and have no sources. Why wouldn't one of the myriad UK tabloids report this instead?

by Anonymousreply 14August 22, 2024 2:46 AM

Oops apologies r13. I misread your post, I thought you were dismissing the rumors.

by Anonymousreply 15August 22, 2024 2:47 AM

If he has pancreatic cancer he won’t last two years.

by Anonymousreply 16August 22, 2024 2:51 AM

They always have these funeral plans ready to go and regularly updated for the entire royal family. It's not exactly shocking or any kind of revelation. The media also have packages they can run ready to go for their deaths if they happen.

by Anonymousreply 17August 22, 2024 2:54 AM

I've known two people who were diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, neither one of them could do what King Charles is doing. They started treatment and basically went from their couch to their bed and no other activity. I hope they are wrong about his diagnosis.

by Anonymousreply 18August 22, 2024 2:56 AM

Too true, R14. Perhaps the royal family fed Harry a lie* and now he has sold that information to the rag? In Touch is one his and Meghan's go-tos. Even though they are a tabloid, they would not make that specific of an assertion without some backup.

*The royals did the same when the Queen died. They told Harry her body was being transported to London via train. He then told Scobie who posted the info and then was ridiculed when proven false.

by Anonymousreply 19August 22, 2024 2:59 AM

Agree, R17. His funeral plans have probably long been arranged for years. They have probably had plans drawn up for his funeral as king even when he was still Prince of Wales, and just revisit them every year or so for modifications.

by Anonymousreply 20August 22, 2024 3:05 AM

I am not a person who, outside of a few fictional films and TV shows, has ever given a great deal of thought to the BRF. I understand the love many had for QEII and the disdain many have had for the institution in its more recent form(s).

But all other things aside, it seems very sad that after waiting so long to do the thing you've been in line to do since birth, that he'd get so short a run at it.

I mean, boo empire and colonialism and all that. But still, that's shit luck.

by Anonymousreply 21August 22, 2024 3:07 AM

I'm sure someone has said this already, but King/Prince Charles' funeral details have been planned and rehearsed for DECADES.

A friend and her husband were visiting London in the mid-nineties and were shocked to see a military-like formation and procession with horses on the mall in the small hours of the morning. Their cabbie explained they were rehearsing for the Queen Mother's funeral. It was many years off still.

by Anonymousreply 22August 22, 2024 3:15 AM

[quote]Agree, R17. His funeral plans have probably long been arranged for years. They have probably had plans drawn up for his funeral as king even when he was still Prince of Wales, and just revisit them every year or so for modifications.

100% R20. But there's no probably about it - they definitely have funeral plans ready to go for every member of the royal family and the same for the media packages. These plans are regularly updated and I know this for a fact because there was extensive discussion from the palace about it during the Queen's death and funeral.

by Anonymousreply 23August 22, 2024 3:29 AM

R16: "If he has pancreatic cancer he won’t last two years."

I know a woman who just celebrated four years. And unlike the people R18 knows, she is very active, going to music festivals, hiking, you name it. She does have a very good "live-in-the-moment" attitude, but it's got to be more than that. Maybe she has connections, because she sure doesn't have money.

by Anonymousreply 24August 22, 2024 3:44 AM

I'm telling you, if articles like this are coming out about Charles right now, the prognosis cannot be good.

by Anonymousreply 25August 22, 2024 4:03 AM

In Touch, OP? You’ll be quoting Shesays next.

by Anonymousreply 26August 22, 2024 4:06 AM

In touch and other rags made millions by just writing what people want to see.

Why does DL take seriously anything In Touch and She Knows have to say about the British Royal family? They don't even know what it is. In any case, arrangements are made for a monarch's future funeral from the moment he or she is born and is still the heir.

by Anonymousreply 38August 22, 2024 5:27 AM

[quote] Why does DL take seriously anything In Touch and She Knows have to say about the British Royal family?

As it has already been mentioned a million times already, these media outlets would never print these articles unless there was some truth to it.

Just because they're small organizations doesn't mean that they're not credible.

People used to mock the National Enquirer, but they were almost never wrong about the "gossip" they printed.

Same goes for these news stories.

Laugh if you will, but they know what they're talking about.

Just sometimes, even in tabloid-land, the UK press observes absolute discretion, out of respect. If the situation is now seriously bad for Charles, overt press speculation would create a forest fire of concern, and a morbid countdown.

I'm sure Charles would prefer to fulfill what duties he can while he can, free from a tragic overhanging narrative upstaging all else.

by Anonymousreply 47August 22, 2024 6:18 AM

If Kate dies, Prince or King William will be remarried within 2 years. Plenty of takers for that cock in that lifestyle and privilege.

A bunch of dumbfuck ghoulish Americans and a couple of online American trash magazines frothing with excitement about the possible death of the Head of State of a country about whom they know nothing, and of a country about which they know nothing.

Keep jerking off in anticipation of a funeral that you are so weirdly invested in - why is that?

By the way, six months ago you were all barring up with morbid excitement at the funeral of the Princess of Wales (who people like you probably call “Princess Kate”, “Duchess Catherine” or “Kate Middleton”). Guess what? She didn’t die.

Now I’ll let you go back to pouring over Shesays, InStyle and Lipstick Alley. Pour yourselves a jumbo tumbler of Pepsi, sit back and enjoy.

R46,

Dog food, Camilla. Dog food.

by Anonymousreply 51August 22, 2024 7:22 AM

The palace has funeral arrangements for all senior royals worked out in advance, in case of sudden death. The funeral of the monarch especially so. There is nothing morbid about it. I hadn’t heard of In Touch magazine before, so I googled it. Trash.

by Anonymousreply 52August 22, 2024 7:25 AM

What’s there to “plan” they do the same procedure every time a “royal” dies? What? They have to “save up” for it? Please.

by Anonymousreply 53August 22, 2024 8:08 AM

R56, it was revealed by Prince Harry in his book last year.

by Anonymousreply 57August 22, 2024 8:24 AM

Granted, if it's pancreatic cancer, it's not good, but I used to work with a guy that had pancreatic cancer & they gave him whatevver drug they used to treat Jimmy Carter (too lazy to google it) and while he's not exactly running marathons, he's still hanging in there. So Chuck may not be long for this world - QEII looked pretty alert and was able to stand unassisted right up to her death, so it's hard to assess his true condition - but I don't think pancreatic cancer is the death sentence it used to be

by Anonymousreply 60August 22, 2024 8:52 AM

Sure, r39, there is truth to the fact that Charles has cancer, is undergoing treatment and, as King, his funeral arrangements are prepared from the moment he becomes King as a matter of policy. How does In Style know his alleged full diagnosis, however, and the apparent chronology of his death, however?

by Anonymousreply 62August 22, 2024 9:06 AM

[quote] How does In Style know his alleged full diagnosis, however, and the apparent chronology of his death, however?

Because people who work for the BRF all have big mouths.

And the tabloids PAY THEM for information.

They just spill the dirt.

The "sources" never get in trouble, because they are never named. And the media outlet gets the story.

by Anonymousreply 63August 22, 2024 9:10 AM

Ruth Bader Ginsburg lived for over ten years after her initial diagnosis of pancreatic cancer, eventually dying at the above-average of 87, and probably with cancer not because of cancer. Even if the trashy American In Style is correct (as a guess) that Charles has pancreatic cancer, he could still go on for another decade at least.

by Anonymousreply 64August 22, 2024 9:12 AM

No one is being paid by the trashy In Style, r63, and certainly no one who works for the BRF (where there are never such leaks) and certainly not about something like medical records, the privacy of which is legally protected. Especially as only a handful of people would have such information and it wouldn't be difficult to work out who is the leaker.

In Style, clearly run on a shoestring, all articles in which appear to be sourced from Instagram, wouldn't even have the budget to pay for that.

by Anonymousreply 65August 22, 2024 9:19 AM

These threads are always filled with fantasists who get their info from the worst sources.

It's so embarrassing.

by Anonymousreply 66August 22, 2024 9:30 AM

Just a reminder, this cancer was discovered during prostate surgery which is nowhere near the pancreas. The probable areas of cancer would be prostate, bladder, maybe colorectal. If the palace wanted disclose type of cancer, they would do it via the Telegraph. If royal staff wanted to leak, it would be in the Express or a similar British tab. The only royals adjacents with any history are Harry, Meghan and Fergie. My bet is Harry and Meghan, especially since the diagnosis makes no sense.

by Anonymousreply 67August 22, 2024 9:56 AM

R18

Usually that’s true but my uncle* completely defied the odds when dx with pancreatic cancer a few years ago - he barely looked sick until two years later, during which time the cancer had disappeared entirely. He subsequently got lung cancer as a never-smoker and extremely healthy elderly man and died this past March.

We know how lucky he was and how unusual this process was and were so grateful to have that time with him.

*I posted about his granddaughter in the Gus Walz thread.

by Anonymousreply 68August 22, 2024 10:24 AM

R53,

State funerals for the monarch have to plan for every eventuality. The late Queen died in Scotland, but there were separate plans for her dying at any of her residences. In the event it worked out perfectly.

A monarch’s funeral involves huge marches past by every branch of the armed forces, and they practice to perfection. The music also has to practiced regularly so the military bands are ready.

The palace has to be ready to feed, house and transport hundreds of visiting heads of state, etc. They have special accommodation for this.

These same dignitaries will need to tie the event in with their own governments/embassies to avoid clashing priorities.

The new monarch will hold a huge reception before the funeral to welcome the dignitaries.

The lying in state is an enormous project, safely managing and policing hundreds of thousands of people coming to pay their respects.

The funeral itself involves shutting down traffic in a major world city, and policing a crowd in the millions. The security operation is massive due to the risk of a terrorist assault.

by Anonymousreply 69August 22, 2024 10:25 AM

The plan should be: wrap him in a Poundland bedsheet and throw him in the Thames.

by Anonymousreply 70August 22, 2024 11:39 AM

R40, damn, you shouldn’t skip your morning coffee. This is a GOSSIP site. The royals aren’t excluded from our curiosity, nor are they too lofty for us proles to speculate about. Especially about illness, life, and death.

My feeling is no one really knows what he has, and just because the gossip rags print it, it absolutely doesn’t mean anything. They could have printed someone’s speculation. The fact is, no one from the BRF is going to sue them for printing a lie, so the lawyers probably said “have at it.”

by Anonymousreply 71August 22, 2024 12:31 PM

^ oops I meant r50 in my post at r71.

by Anonymousreply 72August 22, 2024 12:32 PM

The argument that "this is a gossip site so I can dribble whatever completely made-up stupid rubbish bullshit I like here and it is not permitted for people to point out that I'm talking crap!" isn't really a winning one, r71.

by Anonymousreply 73August 22, 2024 1:06 PM

R73, you entirely missed the point. Definition of gossip: casual or unconstrained conversation or reports about other people, typically involving details that are not confirmed as being true.

Unconstrained. And whether it’s completely made up? It’s GOSSIP. The whole point is to discuss if it’s made up or true.

by Anonymousreply 74August 22, 2024 1:16 PM

I don't see anyone on the DL saying that you can't call out someone for talking crap, r73.

by Anonymousreply 75August 22, 2024 1:18 PM

That In Touch article literally has a paragraph that literally begins "As viewers of The Crown have seen", so I think that tells us all we need to know about its relationship with sources.

by Anonymousreply 76August 22, 2024 1:46 PM

R75, most definitely you are right. And i certainly have a pretty big mouth. My beef was r50 calling people ghouls and dumb fucks for discussing the topic, and implying since we weren’t British, we shouldn’t even be interested at all.

by Anonymousreply 77August 22, 2024 2:06 PM

Send her to the Tower! The tourists there can feed her and pay her keep.

A friend was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer while he was being tested for prostate cancer. A mass showed up on the edge of a cat scan. The tumor was the size of a plum. They told him the tumor had been there for a long time. It could take up to seven years for it to get that large. In his case, it had already metastasized. So there was little that could be done.

In the case of KC, if a cat scan for prostate cancer had revealed a mass in his pancreas that was still relatively small, and had not yet begun to metastasized, the prognosis might not be as grim as that of my friend. And he just might live for some time.

One of the reasons why pancreatic cancer is so deadly is there usually are no symptoms until it is too late.

by Anonymousreply 98August 22, 2024 5:26 PM

No siblings r94?

by Anonymousreply 99August 22, 2024 5:39 PM

His diagnoses did not come from a scan, R98. It was discovered when they inserted a cam in his urethra to view his enlarged prostate. It is either prostate or bladder cancer or something on that path. It is not pancreatic cancer.

by Anonymousreply 100August 22, 2024 5:55 PM

by Anonymousreply 102August 22, 2024 7:56 PM

R100, we don't know what symptoms led them to test for prostate cancer, but once that test came back negative, they could have conducted any number of further tests based on whatever his symptoms were. And those further tests could have revealed a mass in the pancreas, or (for that matter) any number of other cancers.

Based on the information available publicly, I don't think it is possible to rule out anything.

by Anonymousreply 103August 22, 2024 8:16 PM

He’ll die of alcohol poisoning before the cancer takes him out.

by Anonymousreply 104August 22, 2024 8:46 PM

No, R103, multiple outlets have stated the cancer was discovered during a procedure being performed for an enlarged. Not during pre or post op testing, etc. They literally came across in the middle of the procedure. It is not pancreatic cancer unless the palace is flat-out lying. The pancreas is way up near the stomach.

R94 Hi KGT! Of course William would know if his brother (or father for that matter) is circumcised.

You’re almost sounding like a pearl-clutching frau, KGT! Slip-up?

In the UK it was actually on the BBC news when William got circumcised.

It was not the main story but a secondary story when Diana mania was at its peak. They mentioned that William had gone into a hospital that morning to be circumcised as is royal tradition.

Charles looks the same as ever, IMO. When QE was alive, he was already looking red-faced and sausage-fingered. If anything, he seems to have mitigated the red skin problem. Now, he just looks washed-out.

question for you royal watchers during Qe2 funeral service - the one at chapel in Windsor - during the singing of GSTK, it cuts to a woman with this absolutely breathtakingly Grecian looking profile.

Anyone know who she is?

I figured she must be someone important to be at that particular service and captured on camera. Her profile/ face has left a mark on me for these past two years.

Can anyone tell me who she is?

There are always plans for the Monarch's funeral in place throughout their reign, whether ill or not, making it very convenient for tabloids to give a truthful report of "funeral plans underway" whenever it is convenient even though it's out of context.

R78, the story about Diana preventing William & Harry from being circumcised was an anti-circumcision talking point. That is why Harry set the record straight in his book last year and called out the anti-circ stuff by revealing that he was "snipped as a baby" (his exact words).

[quite]When William becomes King will he kick Camilla to the curb?

Camilla won’t care. Old whores know how to survive. She’s probably got a wad of cash stashed somewhere. She’ll live in the country and spend her days smoking and drinking gin.

by Anonymousreply 124August 23, 2024 11:15 AM

Camilla is going to be financially provided for and I’m sure she has thought through all the angles in terms of how William may slight her in the future. I suspect she knows what to expect and will be just fine.

I thought Kate’s illness was handled ridiculously poorly, initially. But now I’m almost wondering if it was a stroke of genius.

“Let’s screw it up so bad that it becomes a joke and people come out with hypotheses that are even worse than the truth. We’ll go on like that WAY too long and really bungle some stuff along the way - how about a Frankenstein Mother’s Day photo?! Let’s get a six year-old to dummy something up. Then, when it’s at a fevered pitch, we’ll finally own up to the fact that she has cancer (but still not admit that she’s been sick for ages) and blame the press and the public for questioning things. Shame them into compliance. Then she’ll start doing what would have seemed normal from the start - rare appearances when she’s up to it, the occasional non-Frankenstein photo - and the other 99.99% of the time she can do whatever she wants for her time that’s left and nobody will dare question it.”

Pretty unlikely but, if it was anything like that, it worked and I’m sympathetic to it. I can’t imagine a scenario where she’s OK. Doesn’t mean it’s not possible she’ll recover, but it’s got to be pretty bad. Kate doesn’t have Diana’s start power, but she’s popular. The death watch would have been a hysterical, maudlin, fiasco. With daily DM articles like “Can the Miracle Cancer Cure Discovered by a Remote Amazonian Tribe SAVE Kate?”

by Anonymousreply 125August 23, 2024 11:42 AM

If Kate wants it she could be a powerful advocate for cancer patients but as a cancer survivor myself I can understand that she may just want to get through treatment and then never talk about anything related to cancer again because it sucks so very bad.

by Anonymousreply 126August 23, 2024 11:50 AM

Camilla isn't interested in what happens after Charles dies. She'll retire to her country estate (the one she's owned for years) and be happy as a pig in shit, with her horses, gardens, grandkids and gin. She'll keep some kind of smallish apartment in town, probably at KP or in St. James, for any official business she might need to attend such as Trouping the Colour, etc - they will trot her out for these if only for show of family unity.

by Anonymousreply 127August 23, 2024 4:34 PM

[quote] When William becomes King will he kick Camilla to the curb?

He really cannot. She has the title of Her Majesty the Queen of the United Kingdom for life. When Charles dies, she will be the Dowager Queen, and will have to be accommodated as such.

Moreover, his wife is reportedly very close with Camilla. And William reportedly gets along well with her too.

by Anonymousreply 128August 23, 2024 4:40 PM

I wonder if Camilla, when she becomes Queen Dowager, will inherit Highgrove -- Charles' Xanadu -- and the army of sycophants around her husband.

by Anonymousreply 129August 23, 2024 4:41 PM

She won't ever literally inherit Highgrove. It belongs to the Duchy of Cornwall, the current holder of which is Prince William. Charles rents Highgrove from his eldest son.

When Charles dies and William becomes William V, Prince George will automatically become the Duke of Cornwall, and will technically be the owner of Highgrove. Whether George (or his proxies) will rent it out to his widowed step-grandmother remains to be seen, but I think she prefers her own country estate in Gloucestershire anyway.

by Anonymousreply 130August 23, 2024 4:47 PM

As stated in r127 and elsewhere, Camilla is ok with Highgrove but adores her own estate, Ray Mill House in Wiltshire. She's had it since her 1st marriage, it's her personal bolthole and the place she loves most. She will "retire" there, but still be visible at public events as needed. She won't want for anything, as Charles will make sure she's provided for out of his vast personal estate and funds. But it's not as if she's the world's biggest spendthrift so it won't be an issue.

She will appear from time to time with King William for key events, such as Trouping the Colour and the like. She will of course be invited to key Windsor family events, such as weddings and funerals, and may be welcome for the annual Royal Christmas gathering when she wants to attend (perhaps not every year).

by Anonymousreply 131August 23, 2024 4:53 PM

[quote] Moreover, his wife is reportedly very close with Camilla. And William reportedly gets along well with her too.

Bullshit.

There have been numerous reports of friction between Camilla and Kate, and also how William just tolerates Camilla, and lets her know exactly where she stands with him.

There is no lost love between them.

Stop trying to rewrite history, you BRF SHILL.

[quote] King Charles III Shares Rare Personal Update Amid Cancer Diagnosis

King Charles III is carrying on and sharing a spot of good news.

While visiting with the families affected by the knife attack in Southport, which left three young children dead, the British Monarch was asked how he was doing amid his ongoing cancer treatment.

As he put it, per Express, “I’m not too bad.”

The update comes after the 75-year-old was diagnosed with an unnamed form of cancer in February. Though he’s been undergoing treatment since, Charles has only shared the occasional news about his health with the public.

Back in May, while in conversation with a British Army veteran named Aaron Mapplebeck during a visit to the Army Flying Museum, Charles confirmed he’d lost his sense of taste amid his chemotherapy treatment. He didn’t share whether the effects would be temporary.

The Museum visit occurred shortly after Charles made his return to public-facing duties. Though he'd taken a step back following his initial diagnosis, allowing time for treatment and recovery, on April 30 Charles visited London's University College Hospital Macmillan Cancer Centre with Queen Camilla by his side.

While announcing the King’s return to public engagements on April 26, Buckingham Palace noted His Majesty is "very grateful to his medical team for their continued care and expertise."

by Anonymousreply 138August 24, 2024 1:50 AM

Interesting, R138 - I’ve mentioned elsewhere on the DL that I have two friends who have met Camilla in a social (as opposed to a “formal”) situation. Neither knows the other. Neither is at all enamored with royalty. And yet both had almost identical feedback on Camilla - earthy, funny, welcoming, loves a G&T (no surprise there), loves a dirty joke and was so relaxed that she put them at their ease.

by Anonymousreply 139August 24, 2024 1:55 AM

by Anonymousreply 142August 24, 2024 3:57 AM

R138, anyone who could put up with a notoriously prickly character like Charles for decades is probably an easy person to get along with. There's room for only one diva in a relationship.

by Anonymousreply 143August 24, 2024 4:26 AM

BTW this is one of many reasons why Charles's first marriage was doomed. Both Charles and Diana reportedly experienced emotional neglect as children. As adults each wanted the other to be a nurturing parental figure but they lacked the maturity, stability, and resilience to do so. When Diana didn't get what she needed, she acted out. When Charles didn't get what he needed, he checked out. Now Camilla should not have been the third wheel in that scenario, but she does seem to be able to cope with Charles in a way Diana could never manage.

We saw a vivid micro-glimpse of the Charles-Camilla relationship when, on camera, his fountain pen failed properly to function. He just about restrained his rage, but still couldn't hide intense exasperation. She instantly found the right soft words to sooth him, to calm him down.

I got the impression that there have been not a few such scenes off-camera where rage was unrestrained, and those soothing words needed to go on for quite a long while.

by Anonymousreply 147August 24, 2024 7:04 AM

[quote] King Charles III's Reported Desire to End Feud With Prince Harry Might Signal Some Health Concerns

Is a reconciliation in the works between King Charles III and Prince Harry? That’s what the Daily Mail seems to think after the monarch sought advice from religious leaders recently. While royal fans may believe it’s just about family relationships, other people are concerned that Charles’ health is declining amid his cancer battle.

“Charles misses his son,” a source told the media outlet. “He still loves Harry and wants him back for personal reasons – regardless that he and Meghan do not [want to] return to royal life. Harry will always be Charles’s much-loved son. He has faith that Harry could return. He misses the bond they once had, and the door will always remain open to him and his family. He does not want years of discord and disharmony clouding his reign.”

The idea of reconciliation may feel like it’s coming out of nowhere, especially after the royal family skipped the Duke of Sussex’s milestone 10th-anniversary celebration of the Invictus Games. That would have been a perfect opportunity — and photo opp — to extend an olive branch to Harry. However, some palace insiders are claiming that King Charles is in poor health and that might be the impetus for ending the feud. “He’s making public appearances, but they’re for shorter periods of time,” an In Touch Weekly source said. “He’s often whisked in by helicopter and then whisked out. After an engagement, he needs a good rest.”

Even though “the palace is giving the impression that Charles is on the mend,” the insider shared that “he’s still very sick.” The plans for the king’s funeral aka “Operation Menai Bridge,” are also underway because “death is a possibility” during Charles’ illness. The monarch gave a brief update on his health on Aug. 20 that gave the impression that he had good and bad days during his illness. “I’m not too bad,” he told the Express.

The biggest thing standing in the way of King Charles’ reunion with his youngest son might be Prince William. The siblings don’t seem to have anything in common anymore and the Prince of Wales appears to be holding a deep grudge against Harry for publishing his memoir, Spare. However, if King Charles isn’t doing well, then William should step aside because forgiveness might be the best thing for the monarch and Prince Harry.
