Why is Chevy such an asshole?
Was he always this way, or is he just getting grumpier in his old age?

Chevy was always this way. When he was young, good looking, and bankable, it was tolerated. That was a very long time ago.
Nearly fifty years ago, he and Bill Murray got into a fistfight on the set of SNL (Chevy was guest host). It's a pattern that goes back decades.

Even at his peak of popularity, he wasn't really all that great.
I mean, he had the National Lampoon Vacation movies, Fletch, and Foul Play. If you really stretch, you might include Three Amigos.
Why people put up with him is astounding.

He had Caddyshack as well. While it was an ensemble, he is still pretty memorable.

[quote] Went to a comic con panel in Orlando for the Vacation movies. The whole cast was on stage. Chevy and Anthony Michael Hall basically just argued the whole time. Anthony said “this is why the entire cast of Community wants nothing to do with you.” Good family fun.

Yes, but does anyone of the cast of Breafast Club or Sixteen Candles want anything to do with him...I doubt it.
AMH has his own behavior issues.

The fistfight with Bill Murray was supposedly over something Chevy said about Jane Curtain. Murray had a crush on her and with Belushi egging him on, he let Chevy have it.

R8 Wrong. Murray never had a crush on Jane. He and Gilda were a couple for awhile. Jane was worked 9 to 5 on the set and went home to her husband and family. She often remarked that she felt like she was the outsider in the group, more 'mom' than peer.
