I mean, he took a personality test at the beginning of rehab and has said in at least two interviews he’s an extrovert and that was why he spiraled at the beginning of the pandemic when he couldn’t vampire his energy from others the way extroverts do. However the exhaustion and stress of maintaining this persona (imposter syndrome) results in depersonalization and frequently expresses itself through substance abuse as a coping mechanism, which is probably what happened with Mulaney.

The Piers Morgan interview with Armie Hammer is worth a watch because Hammer (quite visibly ADHD, it was apparent even before the scandal) talks about the amount of substance abuse he was doing when things were going well for him (“I was addicted to escapism… I was addicted to anything that would get me out of myself… I felt such a deep sense of discomfort in my own body” - this is the language of imposter syndrome and depersonalization.
