Crypto Tips
Anyone mess with them?
I bought something online years ago and had to make a wallet, buy crypto, and send it to them. This recently popped in my head, it was 2013. I found the account today and my 2 bucks left were at 265 bucks.
Nice.
Bought some Just wondering.

If you woulda put that $2 into Nvidia stock you'd have $620 today. Just sayin. Crypto is nothing but trouble waiting to happen.

This is going to sound very strange, but I buy crypto with loose change I find on the ground. My bank still takes coins. I transfer it to a Robinhood account. I refuse to spend *my* own money on crypto. I've been doing this for a couple years and, technically, I have made money.

What exchange do you use?

I have a few and only use Robinhood. I research via Reddit. So far so good. I don't believe in crypto but there's money to be made

Robin Hood is also a crypto exchange, r7?
What Reddit threads discuss crypto, if you don’t mind me asking.
I’d like to invest a little and see how it goes since my stockbroker doesn’t offer any.
Do you electronically transfer money from your bank account to Robinhood then buy on that platform?

R8 google the coin you want and reddit and it'll take you to all kinds of posts. ie, doge reddit... I transfer $ from my checking to my Robinhood acct and it's available immediately. Robinhood doesn't have every coin but I think they don't have the more sketchy ones so I feel a bit safe. A friend of mine made $20k on a $500 investment. And when he went to cash out into his crypto wallet that particular coin wasn't on the wallet and there's nothing he can do. I believe it was a Coinbase wallet and they said in the future if they get that particular coin he'll have his money...that seems like fraud to me so I stay away. Good luck and hodl! My hope is one of these silly one thousand of a cent coins will give me $1m in 10 years.

My Fidelity account offers some Crypto services. Anyone tried them? Seems like it would be a safe option.

That’s crazy, r10.
How did he buy it if it wasn’t offered? Or did he buy it on Coinbase and forget?
Still, he should be able to cash out on coin base, can’t he?

It’s super volatile, there is no underlying value to any of the coins, and capitalism has a long history of speculators booms that go belly up. Look at it like gambling, assuming you don’t have an addiction.

That’s sort of what I was going for, r13.
Maybe a hundred bucks or so to see how it does. It’s one of those things where I think more people will start using it, so I want to get in early and hold.
Then sell a few years down the road.

profitable trader with 6 years of experience here. never ever ever buy anything cryto or stocks without checking the haicken ashi candle first. if for long term investment then buy at the first green heicken ashi candle in a weekly or monthly timeframe with a tight stop loss but not so tight as to constantly get you of trade.

So strange that this thread popped up. I literally put about 6k into some crypto stuff today. I bought Bitcoin through river.com and also BTC-USD (it’s an ETF although don’t ask me what an ETF is) and MSTR stock.
It’s definitely more of a long-term thing, it’s just so volatile.

In English, r15?
WTF is a heicken ashi candle?

Why does cryptocurrency exist? Who needs to operate in a super-secret way outside of the normal banking system? It’s a mystery . . .
by Anonymous | reply 19 | January 7, 2025 1:24 AM

R19, you can’t think of anyone who needs to operate in a super secret way? Anyone?? Hint: they could be doing illegal bad things.

R20, I want to believe that we don’t need to use “/s” on DL, but maybe we do.

R22, thanks for the clarification 🤣🤣🤣, I should have realized it was sarcasm. Not your fault I didn’t spot it, I can never spot it on DL.

R12, I don't remember the exact details but I'll ask when I see him at the end of the month. It was something that made no sense. Because he was questioning why could he sell and transfer to a wallet that didn't recognize the coin in the first place, it should have not allowed him to transfer. Good luck and hope to hear some of your updates. If you want to be silly. Buy Doge coin and I'm sure it will go up but once muskrat and the orange one fight it'll probably go down in flames. My 2 cents on that coin.

Yeah, I think that’s the general consensus on that thing, r24.
I hate to bug into anything Leon related, although sticking it to some tech bros on a pump and dump would take some sting out.
Thanks for the follow up! I’m interested to hear what he says.

If you're not super plugged into it don't play with memecoins or penny crypto. Buy things like BTC, ETH, UNI, CAKE, ADA, HBAR, SUI, BASE and take profits aggressively - there will likely be a big bull run around inauguration, then a big sell off, then likely an even bigger bull run when Trump makes some headway gutting the SEC and the Repugs get to work on deregulating every scam in town.

if you want to play with memecoins then get phantom wallet and send solana to it. every transaction is done through solana, or at least the fees have to be paid in solana. they're very small. buy coins trending on phantomwallet that are topical or have some kind of mass appeal (like being based on an extremely popular character or meme or a cute animal) and buy it if it is on a significant downswing for that day. most of these coins crab between a dip and something close to their ATH or at least daily high mcap all day so if you buy downswings and sell upswings with a few of them it usually works out. if you want to take a moonshot then use telegram and interface with a bot called rick chainley. get the /pftrending list from him and look for a coin that is still under 100k mcap and not graduated but looks appealing and has significant activity in a very short amount of time. something like a coin minted 5m ago already at 60k mcap and the meme/aesthetic or whatever the fuck is appealing or amusing or catches attention for whatever reason. if you actually bought it super early just sell it immediately after graduation. graduated coins usually dump and die around 200-300k mcap where the bundled wallets have limit orders.
