I’m not going to despair. The cookies now suck.

Gross. Reminds me of fellowship after church service as a kid. Two Famous Amos on a white cocktail napkin.

I was just thinking about him a few days ago and wondering if he's still alive and baking his famous cookies.

Has Andy commented yet?
by Anonymous | reply 6 | August 15, 2024 7:57 PM |
I didn't know he was still with us! His cookies were a lifesaver when I only had 50 cents waiting to be picked up after school.

Famous Amos, Peter Marshall, and Greg Kihn all gone...when will the tears end?
by Anonymous | reply 8 | August 15, 2024 8:02 PM |
R9. Don't forget me, bitch. Although, I've already forgotten everything....
by Anonymous | reply 9 | August 15, 2024 8:04 PM |
Joe better be thanking whoever finished this set of three before the grim reaper got him.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | August 15, 2024 8:04 PM |
Those cookies were rock-hard.
I did not know Greg Kihn died.

Why didn’t you just swallow their loads?

R12, because I'm not Catholic, Rose.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | August 15, 2024 8:53 PM |
Someone once told me these cookies used to be good. The Famous Amos I had from a vending machine tho were certainly nasty.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | August 15, 2024 8:55 PM |
Seriously, I was sure he died decades ago... For the youngsters around here, yes, the cookies used to be good.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | August 15, 2024 9:10 PM |
And thus, the cookie crumbles.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | August 15, 2024 9:26 PM |
Awful cookies. Like even cheaper nastier Girl Scout cookies.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | August 15, 2024 9:37 PM |
Famous Amos and Mrs. Fields started out as high end cookies. No, really.
I think Amos sold out and something bad happened about the money.
The later vending machine variety were like rocks.

Famous Amos Cookies vs Grandma Gratvas' Cookies
Watch to the end to see Amos ascending to the heavens.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | August 15, 2024 10:16 PM |
Loved his cookies and he seemed like a great guy. RIP.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | August 15, 2024 10:33 PM |
Believe it or not, these cookies WERE good at one time. Back in the 80s before he sold the company.
RIP Wally Amos.

I remember a Famous Amos cookies store on Lexington Avenue near 56th Street in Manhattan around 1980s. The cookies which are decent cold and packaged, were actually great when warm and fresh. I think the store only lasted about 2-3 years before closing. It was not in a great location. It should have been opened closer to Bloomingdales or by Macy's to get the foot traffic from shoppers.

Were they tiny like the terrible vending machine cookies? I don't mind that part, but curious. Sad they ruined the product.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | August 15, 2024 10:48 PM |
They were always small, but a bit bigger than today[s version. I tried some a few months ago in a fit of nostalgia. Not good.

The ORIGINAL Famous Amos cookies, which we got in tins as Christmas presents from 1978 to maybe1982 were AMAZING. The Famous Amos cookies you bought in a sealed bag had ZERO to do with the original cookies, which tasted homemade.

R25 R27 The fresh cookies from the Famous Amos store were bigger and delectable. I think the ones in the tin box were similar but I'm sure they added more ingredients so that the product will last fresh longer. The paper bagged version were drastically different and inferior, close to Chips Ahoy cookies.

Same with David’s Cookies, R20.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | August 16, 2024 1:10 AM |
Terrible product. Oreos and Chips A hoy cookies are now also terrible after being reconfigured. Waste of a cheat day.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | August 16, 2024 1:23 AM |
You can buy them now for $3.50
by Anonymous | reply 31 | August 16, 2024 1:25 AM |
The cookies in the tins were fantastic. That bullshit in the bag from Quaker or General Mills was GARBAGE. Didnt even taste like a cookie.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | August 16, 2024 2:08 AM |
I loved his cookies-made me the fat whore I am today.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | August 16, 2024 2:30 AM |
david’s cookies were also hard and not tasty

my friend's dad helped him launch nationally and he died a couple weeks ago.
cookie curse?
by Anonymous | reply 35 | August 16, 2024 6:32 AM |
The original shop was on Sunset Blvd, and the fresh-baked cookies were to die for. The butterscotch pecan crunchies were the BEST.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | August 16, 2024 7:38 AM |
Even though I prefer a cookie that is not thoroughly soft, I did enjoy the Mrs. Fields macadamia nut / white chocolate chip cookie.
It sounds like the Famous Amos cookies may have started from a good recipe, but that recipe did not translate well to shelf life. If you think about it, it makes sense. My mom made really good chocolate chip cookies, but they were always best when freshly-baked.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | August 16, 2024 7:46 PM |
Mrs. Fields milk chocolate cookies warmed were heaven.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | August 16, 2024 7:51 PM |
R37 The walk-in bakeries also made standard sized cookies that were softer, and brownies (called Chewies) as well, but only the bite-sized “Crunchies” were mass-produced. The Crunchies were much better fresh-baked, of course.

Several years running at Christmas we would get these tins with delicious Famos Amos cookies and his picture was on the tin and it said "Have a merry black Christmas!"
