Joan Crawford adopted 4 kids

Why did two of them get cut from the movie.

[quote] Why did two of them get cut from the movie.

Because I was not one of their faaaaaaaaaans!

by Anonymousreply 1August 15, 2024 4:02 AM

Because they came later and because they didn't hate Joan like Xtina & Xtopher. The book doesn't mention them either

by Anonymousreply 2August 15, 2024 4:03 AM

Because the other kids knew where to find the boys AND the booze! pfft!

by Anonymousreply 3August 15, 2024 4:06 AM

When she turned in her first draft, her editor screamed “Tina - bring me the ax!”.

by Anonymousreply 4August 15, 2024 5:01 AM

Because the truth is, they were getting old. They weren’t the little shop girls anymore who made a great success. That’s the truth, to face, if they wanted to survive for the next book.

by Anonymousreply 5August 15, 2024 5:21 AM

“Why did you adopt me!?!?”

by Anonymousreply 6August 15, 2024 5:41 AM

*5* kids

[quote]Christopher Crawford (I) was born in April of 1941 - Joan adopted Christopher in June of 1941. Joan was heartbroken when, after raising Christopher as her own, Christopher's biological mother wanted her child back. Joan cared for Christopher for almost a full year. In 1942, young Christopher was taken away from Joan and her then husband, Phillip Terry. Both were devastated. The birth mother ended up selling Christopher sometime later to another couple for $250.00!!! Joan Crawford throughout her entire life always considered Christopher Crawford (I) as one of her adopted children. In a 1968 interview with David Frost, Joan mentioned that she had adopted five children in her lifetime - remembering the "first" Christopher Crawford she had adopted in 1941.

r6 For the PUBLICITY you EXPELLED little alcoholic whore!

by Anonymousreply 8August 15, 2024 5:54 AM

Mommie Dearest deleted scene-

Christina: "I got the mail."

Joan(drunk): "That's nice darling."

Christina: "There was a package that said something about a 'blue movie'. Are you doing a new film?"

Joan suddenly grows angry.

Joan: "What are you doing going through MY MAIL? I see how you're looking at me like YOU KNOW! You think I'm cheap huh?!? I'll SHOW YOU CHEAP you little bitch!"

by Anonymousreply 9August 15, 2024 6:16 AM

If my memory serves me, the twins threatened to sue if they were portrayed in the film, I think they both died broke & lived on welfare.

by Anonymousreply 10August 15, 2024 6:23 AM

I dodged a fucking bullet!

by Anonymousreply 11August 15, 2024 6:25 AM

Didn't Joanie leave most of her money to the twins?

by Anonymousreply 12August 15, 2024 6:36 AM

For reasons well aware to THEM.

by Anonymousreply 13August 15, 2024 7:55 AM

SHE'S ADOPTED!!!!!!!

by Anonymousreply 14August 15, 2024 9:36 PM

"Do YOU think it's clean?"

by Anonymousreply 15August 15, 2024 11:11 PM

As I recall, Cindy and Cathy Crawford inherited about $73,000 each in 1977. Joan spread her estate around to a bunch of other people and organizations. I might be remembering it incorrectly, they might have even split that surprisingly modest amount.

by Anonymousreply 16August 16, 2024 12:49 AM

Christina was full of shit.

by Anonymousreply 17August 16, 2024 12:54 AM

Joan was one sick bitch.

by Anonymousreply 18August 16, 2024 1:24 AM

On her sickbed.

I think it was because neither of them gave permission for their names or characters to be used. Christina did pay Christopher a modest amount so he could be featured.

A lot of characters had their names changed and/or were composited for the film. Even an earlier draft of the script featured a rival star to Joan named Sheila Sandstone, a fictional counterpart to Norma Shearer. The knitting needles incident was included in this draft.

[quote] Why did two of them get cut from the movie.

For reasons which are well known to them.

by Anonymousreply 21August 16, 2024 9:49 AM

Joan spent all the money on herself. She was a selfish woman. She didn’t even pay the children’s tuition. The kids became charity cases. Meanwhile, Joan was taking vacations.

by Anonymousreply 22August 16, 2024 9:51 AM

come play with us, Christina.

by Anonymousreply 23August 16, 2024 10:54 AM

“THAT….is a LIE!”

by Anonymousreply 24August 16, 2024 11:00 AM

R20 what's the knitting needle incident?

by Anonymousreply 25August 16, 2024 9:55 PM

She BOUGHT 4 kids.

by Anonymousreply 26August 16, 2024 11:40 PM

"Why did two of them get cut from the movie."

Artistic differences?

by Anonymousreply 27August 16, 2024 11:51 PM

Gary talked them out of it.

by Anonymousreply 28August 16, 2024 11:57 PM

So crazy that she stayed in bed on Oscar night. You'd think she'd want to experience her win in person.

by Anonymousreply 29August 17, 2024 2:03 AM

Was she the favorite to win the Oscar in the year she won?

by Anonymousreply 30August 17, 2024 2:07 AM

[quote]Joan spread her estate around to a bunch of other people and organizations.

Like she did her legs at M.G.M. And Warners. And Fox. And Universal. And Pepsi-Co.

by Anonymousreply 31August 17, 2024 2:18 AM

R25 Joan infamously ruined one of Norma’s closeups by clacking her knitting needles loudly behind the camera. She was supposed to be giving Norma her cues.

by Anonymousreply 32August 17, 2024 2:35 AM

Christopher is barely in the film, and I guess most of the young Christina scenes are in the time frame pre-twins.

by Anonymousreply 33August 17, 2024 3:50 AM

They weren't actual twins, but were in reality born a year apart. But Joan called them the twins and dressed them alike.

by Anonymousreply 34August 17, 2024 3:54 AM

Did Joan really not show up at the Oscars as she was afraid of losing?

by Anonymousreply 35August 17, 2024 11:13 AM

[quote]They weren't actual twins, but were in reality born a year apart.

They were fraternal, not identical twins. But they were twins.

by Anonymousreply 36August 17, 2024 12:15 PM

R36 is correct, their mother died shortly after the twins were born, I think she suffered from kidney disease. The father felt overwhelmed & gave them up for adoption.

by Anonymousreply 37August 17, 2024 12:51 PM

R31. Such a charming story, dear heart. Your bravery has always been one of your many gifts, Bette. You never let the fact while the attractive woman in Hollywood were enjoying the pleasure that being beautifully and desirable brought them, you were trying to correct your hunched back and locked knees. Girls like you, the ones who society and attractive males have forgotten, are the true heroes!

by Anonymousreply 38August 17, 2024 10:54 PM

R34, the twins, Cathy and Cynthia, were biological, fraternal twins. Christina falsely said they were not; Cathy sued Christina for defamation. They were adopted through Georgia Tann’s children’s society.

by Anonymousreply 39August 17, 2024 11:18 PM

R22, Joan Crawford was very generous to people and to charities. She actually paid for a room and medical services at the Motion Picture Country Home, for needy people in the film industry.

by Anonymousreply 40August 17, 2024 11:23 PM

[quote]Joan Crawford adopted 4 kids Why did two of them get cut from the movie.

Why are you so careless with punctuation, troll?

Oh, dear.

Oh, dear.

by Anonymousreply 41August 17, 2024 11:52 PM

Bette Davis was always the superior actress. Joan Crawford's off camera life was always more interesting than her work on the big screen. I was never 'one of her fans' but I did enjoy Mildred Pierce and the film Sudden Fear. Christina's story hit close to home for me because I was also adopted by a mean old lady who beat me, but of course, she didn't have Joan's wealth and fame. If even a fraction of Christina's book is true then it's very sad that people around her witnessed the child abuse and did nothing to intervene.

[quote] Joan Crawford was very generous to people and to charities.

I don't doubt you at all, but I'm sure she had many different sides to her. She was also very image conscious, like every Hollywood actress. On another note, Christina is 85 years old now. Time really flies. She's a survivor.
