WTF are you talking about? Spook is a very established term for spy.

When I was growing up, we had an Agricultural Extension agent who served our county.

He was a deacon in our church and he and his wife bought a tumble down plantation house and renovated it. After ten or 15 years in town he started traveling to Turkmenistan and all the other -stans teaching beekeeping. He’d also bring back rugs for sale to folks in town.

I know for a fact he was a spy of some sort.

I guess I should direct that at R2. I’ve only heard of “spook” referencing spies, but I guess it can be derogatory term per Oxford. So bitch at R2, R4. I wasn’t trolling anyone.

I think my father in law may have been involved in some sort of intelligence, my husband may have been peripherally been involved. This was almost 50 years ago, I used to ask my husband, and sort of tease...I always got a disturbing stare and silence.

Two people I used to work with a different times but at the same place. Actually a couple of decades apart. They were in similar positions that involved their experiences in the Middle East--one in the army and one who had previously worked for a group in Washington that sounded like a front to me. The first guy I think was an intelligence and possibly interrogation officer (covertly [to us]), and the latter played his past very close to the vest. He just wouldn't discuss it. They both were very, very reserved. The army guy had the look of someone who was tough but traumatized; very scary.

A South African spy posing as an academic under deKlerk's government monitoring SA students. An American who did "communications work" at the US Embassy in Moscow. "Chuck of Arabia," the CIA station chief who gave the Stingers to the Mujahedin. Porter Goss, former CIA agent, Congressman, and a founder of the City of Sanibel Island, FL.

The guy who owned one of those small Greek cruise lines a couple decades ago.

When I was 20 I briefly dated an older (40s) CIA agent. I don't know if that was true or not, but seems like it would be a silly lie if you're not going to milk it, which he never really did.
