At the D23 Expo over the weekend, Disney released the trailer for the live-action Snow White movie, which is receiving a massive amount of online backlash.

The Snow White trailer on the official Walt Disney Studios YouTube channel has over 300k dislikes to only 56k likes.

After Cinderella, Snow White is easily the most memorable fairy tale. It is essentially a story of a girl whose mother wants to kill her.

For this to work, everything in the story needs to follow the characteristics of the key players.

Snow White has pale white skin (representing innocence), black hair (foreshadowing death), and red lips (symbolizing passion). She is the fairest of them all and a growing threat; otherwise, the Queen could not care less about her.

The Queen is beautiful, has green eyes (representing envy), and is so vain that she forever stares at herself in the mirror.

Although the father is absent, his ambivalent nature is captured by the huntsman, who refuses to kill Snow White, and the mirror, who taunts the vain Queen by noting her daughter's beauty.

The dwarves are non-sexual creatures who protect Snow White but require her to work.

The Queen offers Snow White an apple (no comment necessary). She bites it and dies.

Magic keeps her body from decomposing until a prince awakens her with a kiss.

This Snow White is not white enough or beautiful enough. The Queen has a resting sweet face. Any conflict between these two would be a hallucination.

She's still working? She ruined West Side Story, she destroyed The Hunger Games Franchise and now she's going to take down a classic. When is her 15 minutes up?

If it's a direct translation from the cartoon, it won't work. The appeal of the original is the gorgeous animation. The story is...there's hardly any story. It's a great animation but not a very good movie otherwise.

R55 Well it had originally been re-adapted where Snow White wants to be a ruler and all this stuff. It got so much backlash, they did reshoots and probably reworked it.

What Disney doesn’t realize is the story of a man rescuing a princess isn’t as sexist as a woman being so jealous of a younger woman that she wants her dead.

They should have canned this years ago. I don't think the actress is ugly exactly but she certainly not beautiful enough to make me believe her in this role and the fact that she's playing Snow White makes me focus on her looks more than I might otherwise. But also if they were going to do it then they should have made it much more visit and beautiful to invoke the animation. Also it might have been more charming if they'd used actual little people as the dwarves.

Rachel Zegler is simply not ugly. She is just too brown. She is a lightskin Latina but not white enough to be Snow White. There isn’t enough contrast between she and Gal Gadot who is clearly still beautiful. Perhaps the film and acting is phenomenal though. Terrible PR so far with the leading bashing the premise before the film was even finished. This may end up flopping worst than Little Mermaid, which underperformed. They probably should have just cast some beautiful ass Becky from Iowa.
