R1 Firstly, it's far more than a few thousand, and this is what people were saying about the anti-Israel far-left (that's it's only a few thousand outliers), but they were wrong. Zealously single-issue voters who make enough noise can DEFINITELY make or break an election--especially one this tight. Which is why Harrris could have never gone with Shapiro as a VP.

Trump has always understood how precious this specific fan base was to his power, which is why he couldn't bring himself to renounce the white Nationalists and Proud Boys when given the chance to during the 2020 debates. They were his fiercest (and scariest) supporters. This isn't just losing their vote--this is them declaring war on his campaign. And now with his handlers keeping him on a tighter leash than ever concerning overtly racist rhetoric this time around, he's unable to win back their trust.

R21 If you think back to before Biden dropped out, Trump was actually starting to get a bit of a black following (not overwhelmingly so, but Biden's black support was going down and Trump's was going up), and Trump started courting the black vote quite aggressively. I can imagine white Nationalists started seeing him more as just another politician than someone who prioritized white nationalism and white "purity".

R42 and R44 They could also not be as enthusiastic in their support of Trump. Do the minimum to support him without actually abandoning him but still showing some effort to their base. That way, if/when Trump loses, they could say they saw it coming and only if Trump had been more MAGA, etc., it would have turned out differently.
