So Trump thinks Biden is so feeble and impaired that he barely knows his own name, but also so smart and cunning that he's plotting to crash the convention, regain the nomination, and participate in another debate? OK, sure.
Trump wanted so badly to run against Biden again, and now that Biden is off the ticket, it's driving him crazy (OK, crazier). The GOP is fucked because they don't have any message besides "Biden is bad." They've got nothing.

I don't usually repost his deranged screeds, but I'm making an exception with this one because Trump is in panic mode. He doesn't think like a normal person, because he's never been one. His grandiosity is gone, and now he's so narcissistically battered, he's losing his political instincts. For years, he's force-fed his narrative to a group of fearful, angry, and unhappy people whose acuity or belief system was over-emotionalized and fringe. I don't want to overstate the moment, but even they know this post is astoundingly delusional. Trump is becoming visibly weak. His aura is dissipating. His myth is collapsing. This post is NUTS.

Congress has the ability to impeach the president, which they did. But the Senate did not convict Trump, they said he will be out of office in a few days and they will leave the criminality of his actions to the courts. Both the FBI and AG Merrick Garland sat on it for over a year before allowing it to go forward. But even then they slow walked it, before appointing Jack Smith as special counsel. If the Senate had properly convicted him as warranted the criminal cases would have had less push back and slow walking because nobody in government has a spine to go after even a former president.

Garland reached the top of his capabilities when he was the Chief Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the DC. He was given too much credit for any position beyond that. He is a moderate with no stomach for prosecuting high profile individuals. He does not deserve to be the US Attorney General, and he apparently also shouldn't have been a Supreme Court Justice.

What worries me are the same old cadre of billionaires like Koch and the Mercers, etc. allied with “libertarian” tech bros like Musk, especially in the wake of the Google decision, which will bring lots of stealth tech money in from the new crop of younger assholes who don’t want to be regulated or forced to pay higher taxes.
Add that to the election deniers being placed strategically in swing states at a time when Trump has the Supreme Court in his pocket.
The 1-2-3 punch of Shapiro-Harris-Walz speeches tonight was thrilling, so much energy and yes, joy — I’ve never seen so much natural political talent together on one stage and all the speeches were on point and highly quotable (and meme-able, my favorite being “Mind Your Own Damn Business!”)
But what keeps keeps me up at night is the reality that evil dudes (in the U.S., Russia, Hungary, North Korea) are pumping money into the Trump machine for reasons of their own, and they can’t be discounted.

This tirade is very revealing because it offers us a glimpse into his innermost desires, namely that he still wishes Biden was running against him. Trump's mental incapacities are now clearly analogous to Biden's physical decline. It remains to be seen how far he will go before any GOP voices are publicly raised in doubt.
It is though the case that anyone anywhere who seriously questions DJT in any capacity is likely to receive death threats - so just maybe he'll be left to further mental breakdown, on his own terms of sheer unregulated narcissism.

The over-the-topness of the fantasy in T-Rump's tweet—that Biden will "CRASH the convention"—like he'll fight his way up to podium through security and all the delegates and seize the nomination back from his "hated" rivals—is so obviously a projection of what T-Rump himself would do if the Republicans tried to ease him off the ticket. That's the anxiety that's eating at his disordered mind as he slips in the polls.

My stomach sank reading that. She also said he and his team served pigs in a blanket and met them in a random room in the east wing. No respect for tradition. Lies. Gaslighting. Running it like the set of a cheap reality show. Imagine 4 more years of this and worse still…imagine 2028. As if he would go quietly into the night.

Just realised that The Felon typing Biden will Crash the DNC is a brain slippage for Smash. He deeply fears what the sane world hopes for and expects: that Biden will win a tumultuous ovation at the DNC, and his words will Smash it with emotion and uplift. Some of those words will stoop to grind The Felon into the ground yet more. So yes, it'll be Smash not Crash for The Felon's forthcoming meltdown.

Josh Shapiro played it smart and admirable here -- he'll bolster Harris/Walz 2024, he'll soldier on as PA Gov, and the next time there's an open Dems primary for President, he will be one of the strongest contenders. 2032 if we're fortunate and 2028 if we're not.
His main flaw was, unfortunately, being Jewish at an unusually antisemitic and "hot button" time in America's recent history. Had October 7 and Israel/Gaza not happened, Shapiro would probably have been chosen.

Jennings is really angry these days, angry like a snake. He used to be a reliable Republican water carrier but he seemed, under the surface, to get it, get where it had gone wrong and accept it, if not admit it. I never liked him, but I thought he knew what was really going on with the Republicans and soldiered on, as best he could, for the income. These days, though, he's a fierce, really nasty partisan. Maybe he sees the destruction of the party coming. I suppose all the true partisans are ugly underneath. I don't mean to sound like I'm cutting him slack, he is repellant these days, but I guess I thought even though I don't agree with him on anything, I thought he was actually smarter than he comes across now.

The dark triad includes malevolent personality traits: Machiavellianism, narcissism, and psychopathy. People with dark triad traits are often manipulative and lack empathy. They may conceal their true nature to earn your trust and then exploit it for their personal gain.
It's important to distance yourself from people with these traits to avoid emotional, financial, and physical exploitation. Contact a mental healthcare provider if you are in a situation with a person with dark triad traits.

This might fairly be described as a turbulent marriage, and a specially eventful year. More to come, no doubt. Trump is a chaos machine. Melania will never spill her beans, to spare her son's feelings. But I'm sure just some of what she could share would defy our wildest imaginings.

I think back to the many press conferences we've seen where he stands there and bullies the press. "Fake news, sit down, shut up," and on and on to his most recent verbal abuse at the National Association of Black Journalist interview recently. He has respect for no one.
The creature is a vicious abuser, always has been, always will be. Why he's been tolerated for so long, why anyone would vote for him at all is beyond me.
He's abused the entire country and we're still suffering from it. He has allies and a Supreme Court that abuses good citizens, too. His base is made up of suckers and conmen. The suckers buy his hate and the cons exploit it. Crime exists from top to bottom in this country, from the catalytic converter thieves to the greedy billionaires. I believe those crooks make up a large part of the base.

A Black woman pastor chastened donald publicly during the 2016 campaign:
The Washington Post By Jonathan Lemire | AP
September 14, 2016 at 9:04 p.m. EDT
"FLINT, Mich. — Donald Trump was cut off, chastised and then heckled after he attacked rival Hillary Clinton during what was supposed to be a speech on helping where the government had failed the people of Flint, Michigan.
“Mr. Trump, I invited you here to thank us for what we’ve done in Flint, not give a political speech,” said the Rev. Faith Green Timmons, the pastor of the Bethel United Methodist Church.
The Republican nominee quickly stopped, then said “Ok, that’s good, Then I’m going to go back to Flint” and its water crisis that had sickened its citizens.
But the interruption seemed to embolden those in the sparse crowd. One woman shouted that Trump had used discriminatory housing practices in his buildings, causing the celebrity businessman to respond, “Never. You're wrong. Never would.
Trump abruptly ended his speech, which had lasted six minutes. More heckling followed him out."

From former National Security analyst, former DHS:
"FOCUS. In all seriousness, Trump's schedule is non existent. If he is not able to campaign, we should learn that. As he becomes more desperate, the coherency hard to defend, he will turn to what he knows best: incitement, threats, violence and an attempt to steal a fair election (watch Georgia). The mood by Dems is feel good now but nobody should think Trump concedes or exits.
This is on the GOP which means the Biden WH has one more fight to consider: the period between election and Harris' inauguration should she win. Trump will not go away. And the threat environment has changed since I wrote this @theatlantic essay about Biden's duty. Dems really could win. And then what?"

In the hours after Vice President Kamala Harris announced Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate, allies of former President Donald Trump rushed to denigrate the Minnesota Democrat, seizing on criticism of his handling of the riots in the wake of George Floyd's murder in May 2020.
"He allowed rioters to burn down the streets of Minneapolis," Ohio Sen. JD Vance, the Republican candidate for vice president, said Tuesday.
But at the time, Trump expressed support for Walz's handling of the protests, according to a recording of a phone call obtained by ABC News -- telling a group of governors that Walz "dominated," and praising his leadership as an example for other states to follow.
"I know Gov. Walz is on the phone, and we spoke, and I fully agree with the way he handled it the last couple of days," Trump told a group of governors on June 1, 2020, according to a recording of the call, in which he also called Walz an "excellent guy."
"I was very happy with the last couple of days, Tim," Trump continued. "You called up big numbers and the big numbers knocked them out so fast it was like bowling pins."

So, yes, they fully intend to steal this because they know they ABSOLUTELY CANNOT WIN LEGITIMATELY. They can’t and they KNOW IT!
They are planning to put their cunts in place to throw out votes, refuse to certify results, stop counting votes then get the pricks dump installed on the “supreme” court to hand the election to him - or whatever fucking fascist prick who replaces him.
This is the plan. They have never denied it. They are BRAGGING about it.
What can you do? Donate and follow Marc Elias. He has been preparing countersuits to thwart this attack and name checking these pricks on social media.
The more light we shine in them, the more they try to slither back into the shadows. They don’t want their plans known, even though they brag about what they’re planning.

It won’t be a bunch of MAGAts shitting in the halls of the Capitol building. This will be at state capitols with the lackeys they’ve installed refusing to certify the votes. Maricopa County now has election deniers RUNNING the Board of Elections.
Even if Kamala wins, they will not certify the results and will instead let it drag out in court, hoping to wear us down or have the “supreme” court decide who won.
That was the plan for J6, but Meal Team 6 got out of control. They were trying to delay the vote certification so SCROTUS could decide, or did you miss that detail? That was the whole point of the attack- to stop the certification.
It almost worked, too, but Pelosi wouldn’t let the house leave until they certified the vote.

He's old. He's tired. He doesn't have the stamina to take the show on the road, not even to try to rescue his opening act JD Vance.
But most of all, he won't risk lower attendance at his events than what Harris/Walz are getting. If he could figure out a way to offer to pay warm bodies to attend a rally and then stiff them, he would, but even he won't dare try that.
I once posted that I know, even if Trump is convicted of state and federal crimes, he'll never see a day in an actual jail or prison. The most he'll serve is home confinement because, at sentencing, his attorneys will successfully argue his age and the logistical, practical and safety issues housing him in physical custody weigh heavier than physically confining him.
Still, I'll take what I can get. What he's enduring now, the public humiliation, the polls indicating he's losing, saddled with JD Vance, and a staff that is leaking to the media about his state of mind, is exactly the retribution I want.
I'd like impoverishment and public shunning for him, too, but, I'm satisfied with what I'm seeing now.
And just as a caution to myself, as VP Harris says, do not forget the Dems are the underdogs in this election and don't get complacent.

Re: R354. This week has seen the crudest possible contrast between party cultures. Trump's extreme tweet of negative fantasy is radiant evidence of clinical mental instability. Meanwhile, the Harris-Walz ticket presented itself with immense charm, wit, energy, optimism, and sheer relatable humanity.
Worthless Trump and his - surely now side-eyeing - minions know that such charismatic momentum is beyond them. So they're sulking in their tents, making themselves feel better by firming up plans for deep electoral interference.

From Plutarch's *Life of Mark Antony*:
[quote]Now, there was with him a seer from Egypt ... who said that his fortune, though most great and splendid, was diminished by that of Octavian; and he advised Antony to put as much distance as possible between himself and that young man. "For your guardian genius [daimōn]," said he, "is intimidated by his; and though it is proud and lofty by itself, when his comes near, yours is cowed and humbled by it." And indeed events seemed to testify in favor of the Egyptian. For we are told that whenever lots were cast or dice thrown to decide matters in which they were engaged, Antony came off worsted.
Kamala's daimōn is greater than Trump's.

R362, you may be on to something. No sympathy for that piece of shit, but even he has to be traumatized by that event and I'm sure it's added a new level of crazy.
I mean, this is where he lives, inside:
“She (Vairst Letty) can’t really even talk about it (the assassination attempt), which is okay, because that means she likes me, or she loves me…that’s nice.”
That's pathetic. I am beyond sympathy or empathy but that awful husk of a man, deservedly but really, has nothing. His whole life is chiseling and being surrounded by chiselers. It's repellant.

Are Diaper Donnie and his Cabal plotting another "accident"?
"This headline about how Trump lied about nearly dying in a helicopter crash gives major deja vu. Sure, today he mixed up Jerry Brown vs. Willie Brown. But there may be a deeper brain scramble going on. Trump famously lied about nearly dying in a helicopter crash in 1989.
In Oct 1989, as Trump's casinos were edging into bankruptcy, 3 of his top casino execs died in a crash of a helicopter chartered by the Trump Org. The rotor simply fell off. Trump soon began telling reporters he was scheduled to be on the flight too.
Trump's story of miraculously cheating death got a lot of press, even though other Trump execs contradicted his story almost immediately. It was a big deal; it got national-level coverage. In an old man losing his memories, this helicopter story might still remain.
So maybe Trump's story today was just a failing brain scrambling together 3 things in a mush of helicopters & men named Brown * his 1989 story of nearly dying in a helicopter crash * a helicopter ride with Jerry Brown in 2018 * Kamala Harris dating Willie Brown in the 1990s
We can only speculate, but it's a good prompt to remember his earlier lie and wonder if there's some reason the 1989 crash hangs on his mind. Here's a 2016 review by Mother Jones, as Trump ran for office. No one was ever found at fault for it."

Perfect description of Captain Capslock.
"My BIG TAKEAWAY from Trump's absurd press conference is that he is finally undergoing something called NARCISSISTIC MORTIFICATION. We dusted off this Freudian term back in April during his criminal trial, and it's extra-relevant today.
Narcissistic Mortification is when a narcissist like Trump crosses over to a place where he sees visions of his own demise. A malignant narcissist who once held the loftiest of titles, cannot cope with this. Trump's fears have become "dread." He is very unhinged, yet uncomfortable in the feeling itself, because he knows he's partly responsible. Reality is being forced upon him, that's not of his making. He can't have that!
To put it in more psychological terms, narcissistic mortification is EXTREME fear experienced when one with a rigidly grandiose pathology sees his sense of self as exposed, defective or inferior. It was coined by Freud in his book Moses and Monotheism. It's described there as deep injuries to ego/self, triggered by one's own compulsiveness (unforced errors -- like suggesting Putin would only release prisoners to him which set him up for embarrassment, or choosing Vance as his running mate against his better judgment, which drives him crazy daily, or repeatedly attacking the popular Georgia Governor Kemp against his own interests, because he can't control himself).
THIS is where I think he is. He's become his own worst enemy, and this conflicts with his pathology of being unable to admit fault. It's a very severe and very dissonant conflict.
Malignant narcissists need their grandiosity. For them to become exposed and weakened, is narcissistic injury - that happens. BUT - for them to become weakened to the extent of being able to visualize their own demise and know it's partly due to their own frailties - frailties they spend a lifetime avoiding and denying - this is irreconcilable. For a malignant narcissist like Trump, it's hell.
Bringing it back to the press conference, it causes him to become even more sensitized ("that was a stupid question"), to become more easily triggered (especially about "crowd size" - the symbol of his fading grandiosity - which he rambled about excessively), to use even more projection ("America" is failing, "America" is in danger means HE is failing and HE is in danger), and it has made him physically haggard (he looked gaunt and hunched over, with stiffness in his facial muscles), and finally - got disoriented (the Willie Brown/Jerry Brown helicopter story being the most pronounced example from yesterday).
Look for him to be carefully coddled by aides. They may not know the psychological terminology, but they know he's slipping away.
Narcissistic mortification is a precursor to narcissistic collapse."
by Anonymous | reply 458 | August 9, 2024 3:22 PM |
They're propping him up to hide his living in a fantasy world. Here's hoping a debate will trigger a genuine, medically certified mental collapse. Something like a rant about "She doesn't know how the legal system works! She'll pardon the entire prison population on Day One!"

He was brilliant and so was Kamala in her speech, starting at 17:30 or so in the clip. THAT is what should have been covered by the MSM yesterday.
On a totally shallow note, I can't believe how good and put together Harris looks on the campaign trail, despite the punishing schedule. Her hair is glossy without anything out of place, her manicure: chef's kiss. Love the pearls with the navy suit - she looks collected despite a grueling schedule, while Trump looked like death warmed over after sitting around for a week at MaL.
by Anonymous | reply 461 | August 9, 2024 4:03 PM |
Fascinating analysis @ R458. What must be adding to The Felon's NM is that his huge ego-boost right after the ear injury - That Photo - has long faded into yesterday's news. It's not now daily pored over like the Turin Shroud, and wondered at as a symbol of glorious defiance.
The Harris-Walz show dominates intelligent attention, knocking DJT's Iwo Jima image into the margins. It's amusing to think that though 'Narcissistic Mortification' fits Trump like a diaper, he'd struggle to read the term, let alone pronounce it.

I keep telling my sister to stop regurgitating whatever the New York Times says and that they're deliberately misleading people by treating Trump like a normal candidate, while constantly bashing the Democrats. She just laughs at me and thinks I'm a radical. She and her husband are intellectual types that just think that this is the paper of record and they should just uncritically take what they say at face value. It's almost more of like a brand allegiance and in that way not that different than the Fox watchers who glom onto them because it's somehow part of their identity.
by Anonymous | reply 469 | August 9, 2024 4:33 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 470 | August 9, 2024 4:36 PM |
It's so frustrating because saying that he spoke 'on crime' is just so misleading. He didn't speak about crime as it exists. As the FBI statistics show. He invented a complete lie, that millions of people are being slaughtered by illegal aliens. That illegal aliens are mostly mental patients and prisoners coming here to commit crime. That crime is up since he left office. Then he said that he would 'stop it'. No policy, no plan because it is LIES.

The NYT covers their ass by only printing facts and pretending to some thoughtful analysis, as at R467 (cf. my link at R456), but how can factual reporting be unbiased when they're taken out of context and massaged into some coherent shape they never had? The story isn't that you could extract some meaningful points out of Trump's presser, it's that he himself is incapable of shaping them into a meaningful statement, and that he's basically abandoned any policy statements for a string of general insults and fabrications. The NYT is a tabloid.

by Anonymous | reply 474 | August 9, 2024 5:19 PM |
Not sure why so much of the blame is placed on the NYT when it's ALL of the mainstream media that have normalized and emboldened Trump. Even MSNBC. I remember during Trump's 2016 campaign when MSNBC would interrupt its regular programming to run Trump's rallies live and in full, even though they never did the same thing for Hillary's rallies. Besides, Trump supporters and swing voters aren't the ones reading the NYT. They're getting their news from their Facebook friends, YouTube and TikTok videos, and other sources that are even less reliable and more sympathetic toward Trump. The real danger to the country isn't the NYT. It's the stupid "influencers" on social media who spread disinformation and the gullible people who believe them.
by Anonymous | reply 475 | August 9, 2024 5:22 PM |
But NYT is not TikTok, YouTube, or Facebook. Social media are not journalism and you use the information they provide knowing that. Also, NYT is not some local paper with little in terms of resources; they are one of few examples of successful adaptation to digital age and are actually profitable (few national papers are.) They adamantly insist that they are neutral and I don't see how you can claim that and insist on being a bastion of hard hitting journalism and not bother to debunk obvious lies. Journalism isn't just giving voice to any unfiltered crap; Google news aggregator can do that but it doesn't consider itself a respectable newspaper.
by Anonymous | reply 477 | August 9, 2024 5:32 PM |
If we're singling out the NYT for criticism, R475, it's because it has had and *should* have a reputation as a trustworthy source, and also because there are people who still believe it is—like the poster on another thread who keeps insisting that the NYT is impartial and we're just demanding that it agree with our political bias.
by Anonymous | reply 478 | August 9, 2024 5:33 PM |
So, let me get this: being impartial means allowing easily debunked lies to pass themselves as actual news? Asking for fact checking is ideological?? In that case, they should close the shop since any kook with access to the internet is a journalist in the same sense their employees are.

The Mariana Trench couldn't contain my loathing and disgust for Trump, but he was right back in 2016, during his run against Hillary, when he observed that the media would never ignore him because he's good for viewership and ratings.
But now, Trump is greatly diminished. His act is old. He's old. It's not complicated. The reason he doesn't direct his staff to create rally events in contested states is because he's too old to have the stamina to maintain them but moreover he won't risk drawing fewer people that Harris.
The fact that the "tough guy who tells it like it is" needs the safe spaces of Maga-Lardo and Montana to bloviate tells me all I need to know.
As an aside, I see that Kellyanne Conway will defend Trump on Fox and attack Harris from there, too but I think it's more telling where she isn't - as a paid manager or any other senior role in his current campaign.

[QUOTE]Trump Force One, you might say, is a poor man’s idea of a rich man’s plane — a big shiny bauble that behind the scenes is “a plane past its prime with decaying mechanics and exorbitant storage fees,” as CNN put it. Which raises the question: Why is a guy supposedly as rich as Trump is flying around in such a jalopy? According to Bloomberg, he’s worth $6.5 billion. People with this kind of wealth generally fly planes like the Gulfstream G650 or the Dassault Falcon 8X, the Porsches and Lamborghinis of the air. By comparison, Trump is flying a secondhand school bus.

Trump is threatening to sue the NYT? This is too funny. The reporting is neither false nor malicious. The Times simply reported Willie Brown said this bad landing never happened - and we can hear Brown's denial on the news with our own ears. Consequently, Trump has no ground to stand on because the reporting is accurate.
Stay tuned: perhaps tomorrow Trump will threaten to sue Willie Brown.

The image of a crashing helicopter is as vivid as a dumpster fire or a train wreck. The Felon put that image in our heads, and blended it - in his unique style - with mistaken identity, and a slur on Kamala Harris.
Small wonder this spectacular lie has legs. The comedy value at the DNC could be sensational, not that there's any lack of other material to provoke huge long roars of laughter.

At Trump's events the people behind him stand there expressionless. Some of them are looking down (at a phone?), or around the room. They often react with a 20 second delay. Trump will say that someone is stupid....nothing.....10 seconds later......some booing and jeering behind him. It's like there is a hype man telling them to do it. Maybe there is. During some of his most vicious rants about other politicians the people in the background are stoney faced. Maybe they have no idea who Schumer is or why the comment is offensive.

r572, in the previous election, there were ads for people to attend his rallies for pay. Maybe it's the same in this case.

Maybe because, R572, they've been paid to attend these rallies (common in the Trump campaign) and don't have the spontaneous enthusiasm of the Dems. There are campaign flunkies in the stadiums to get the crowd going (or were in 2020).

R572, this is a good observation. It's true, part of his audience may be paid to be there, but there's a bigger issue: Trump is not talking about anything that anyone cares about. He's just whining about his grievances and insulting people. That's not going to put food on anyone's table.

R555 I saw people online last night claiming 20,000 people were unable to get inside and watched in overflow tents outside. 😂

This is Access Hollywood 2.0. Worse.
The Republican nominee is on tape calling Kamala Harris “pathetic, a f*cking b*tch.” 😡
This is not locker room talk. This is a misogynistic, self-centered egomaniac with a history of abusing women.

A lot of Trump supporters came dressed as empty seats.

Did they bring out Clint Eastwood to talk to them and warm them up for the main act?

It had to be. The internet is going to break. This is only their kickoff call. Lordy.

In the clip @ R577 he's not only old, smug, fat, stupid, offensive and ugly, but also breathless. Not great features with which to fight two vigorous intelligent opponents almost a generation younger, who don't generally require golf carts.

Oh wow. Not a deepfake. Is this kamikaze?

Is that video real?
by Anonymous | reply 589 | August 10, 2024 5:51 PM |
He says 'she's so fucking bad'
Doesn't matter. There could be video of him cumming on her photograph while screaming the n word and he would not lose his voters. However, he has reached his ceiling and he is not winning new voters. We need to focus on getting people out to vote to overwhelm his loyal but stagnant support.

That clip is actually interesting for apparently (from what he says at the beginning) being from after the debate but before Biden stepped aside. Trump is already anticipating that the debate performance will drive Biden ("that old broken down pile of crap") out *and* that Harris will step in: does he mean as president, or (as happened) just as nominee? In any case, he obviously anticipates that she'll be easier for him to beat.
The word was that his campaign has been stymied because they were unprepared for a campaign against anyone but Biden—but this (if I'm interpreting right) makes it look like they just didn't think they'd have to campaign against her because she would just implode on her own. Which she hasn't.
