Just 30 minutes from Barcelona. I am headed there next week to enjoy the beach and travel to a new part of Spain I've never been to before. I know it's very gay friendly with a lot of Gay Bars and Clubs. I would love any recommendations from people who have been. I will be there three days over a weekend then I am headed up to Barcelona for three days.
Has anyone one on DL been to Sitges Spain?

Looks nice, I'm quite jelly.
Here are some gay tips for that place.

I have. It's beautiful and a very pleasant day trip from Barcelona.

Are the locals going to attack you with water guns?

It was lovely. Find the gay nudist beach and get a tan on your dangly bits

Barcelona is known for its architecture.

Sitges is for basic gays, OP. You'll love it.

A lot. Gay nightlife is fun, less trashy than Torremolinos (or Fort Lauderdale by US standards), a little more trashy than Ibiza (or PTown/Palm Springs by US standards. Town is compact, good mix of restaurants, beaches are ok but better up and down the Costa Brava (the one of the north side of the center is bigger and more local, nude one a bit of a hike). Catalan speaking but not as cunty about it as Barcelona. Impossible not to get laid if you want to.

Had a great time. All the bars are close together. There is a large area with seating where drag and all kind of performances happen in the middle. One street is packed with shirtless gays and my cell phone got nicked walking through the crowd. I had hard time getting an Uber or taxi.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | August 5, 2024 9:12 PM |
nicked or picked?
by Anonymous | reply 11 | August 5, 2024 9:17 PM |
pick pocketed
by Anonymous | reply 12 | August 5, 2024 9:21 PM |
R10 you reminded me, I got pickpocketed too in one of the bars, or streets.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | August 5, 2024 9:37 PM |
Thank you all for the advice. I'll see what it's like and report back to you. It's been a beach summer for my husband and I, even though we aren't beach people really. But we live Florence and it has been so freaking hot this summer, we just need to get out of the city to some water. We did Nice and Locutudy in France, Viareggio here on the Tuscan shore and headed to Spain next week. When flights are like $150 and hotels $150 a night, its hard to pass up getting around.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | August 5, 2024 9:56 PM |
R14 do you and your husband fool around with other guys?
by Anonymous | reply 15 | August 5, 2024 10:01 PM |
This hotel is great value, well located, excellent breakfast and nice pool.

R15 maybe a long time ago. But to be honest, not looking for sex. That you used to be my driving force behind vacations, gay destinations. But to be honest, recently, my sex drive has done a 180 and I’m not longer interested with just hooking up with guys. It wastes so much energy, the hunt, and it’s so singularly focused that you don’t end up enjoying anything else. The desire is not there.

In 1985, took a bath with apple-scented in the Mediterranean there after getting off the long train ride from Berlin and sleazy toilet sex. . Cheap Eurail passes, go figure.

My friends went and still rave about it. They didn't hookup because they are prudes but said being in that Spanish gay space was fantastic. Next time I'm in Spain, I'm stopping by in Stiges.

If you are interested in Roman history, go to nearby Tarragona. There are beautifully preserved Roman buildings and an amphitheatre. The city itself is beautiful, and there are plenty of cafés and restaurants if you need to rest.

Sitges is so nice yoyll regret only spending 3 days. BCN is ok but the nitelife doest start till about 2am to get going..its Ridiculous. Sitges is beautiful. The bars are all clustered together. Eat out about 8pm. Have a drink, ouside, at Parrots bar, to people watch. After the beach a lot go here for cocktails. Balmans beach is a lovely beach, mostly nude, and more sheltered, like a cove. Queens is the Disco bar..theres no big clubby clubs. So, parrots, then the bars in the lane, (a cluster of tiny bars, and everyone is outside). It will be packed. El Piano has Westend stars singing sometimes and its more genteel. They play videos of iconic movie moments and funny youtube clips like Mommy Dearest...and its totally worth going in. This is good about 11pm. Theres a new club beside Queens, more heavy dance music, Queens is more camp dance. Lady Diamond is the main drag queen of Sitges. Her dinner show, in parrots on Fridays is bookable in advance and if u like interactive drag while eating, then its fab...better than eating quietly somewhere..and her show at Midnight in Queens on Monday nights is legendary. There's also the Queens dinner show. Its very good. Every night. Old fashioned cabaret and meal..great food, lovely venue. The sauna is nice too, clean and friendly staff. Everything is only a few minutes walk. If I were u i'd spend 5 days in Sitges and 1 dat sightseeing in BCN. Also, u can pop up to BCN on a 50min train if its bad weather in Sitges. Ps. youll bearly meet a spannish gay. In August itll be mostly Italians and theres always Irish and French and English. Enjoy.

I was there a year ago for the afternoon: lunch and some drinks on the gay nude beach in the center (Playa de los Balmins), which is nice and relaxed to be so thick with people, though the chiringuito is not relaxed nor especially efficient. There's another, calmer nude beach beyond, to the north. There is an interesting historic core with some 14th C and later buildings, some good restaurants and some interesting enough shopping streets, and it's an attractive town, an easy place.
It's a 45-minute drive from Barcelona, but there are trains that are easy I think.

You can feel you’ve been hit over the head with all the gay stuff. It’s a very pretty little town however.

OP I know others have mentioned it but be super aware of pickpockets, especially in Barcelona, they are highly skilled.

I've been thinking of doing a Madrid to Sitges trip next summer. This thread really help push me to go forward with that idea.

Thank you all for your recommendations. I really do appreciate it. Sitges was new to me, so I wasn’t sure how many people knew of it.

Thanks r34 for the suggestion. But I lived in Rome two years and the history, although beautiful, can be overwhelming at times. As my husband said by the time we left, “I can’t look at another pile of rocks…”
Thank you r35 for taking the time to write all of that indispensable info. I really appreciate it. You too R36.

Just back from my trip to Sitges and Barcelona. What a fun little town full of energy. I thought it was going to be overrun with all of the gay "scene-y" types of things, but this was a small enjoyable part. It did make the overall town feel comfortable, open and accepting. There are a ton of beaches to choose from, but we ended up spending the day at Balminess beach, which is a mixed, mostly gay nude beach. Although I didn't go nude (it's about 40% nude), I enjoyed the day sunning myself and floating in the water. I must say, not a bad meal was had - from the small beachfront lunch spots to the fancier recommended places. And we never spent more than 80 euros, for two people, for one meal. That would include apps, entrees, bottle of wine or pitcher of sangria, dessert, coffee, the whole nine yards. The night life goes late, late, if that's your thing. We popped in and out of couple of places - drinks at gay "dive" bars, dancing at straight latin club, went home and crashed. People are on the beaches and allover until late - mostly a younger crowd as the night progresses. Overall it felt very relaxed, an international crowd of people, mostly French and Italian with a sprinkle of German, American and British. We would definitely go back and spend more than just three days there.

And one thing we learned is that during summer, just stick to the beach towns in whatever country you are visiting. We always enjoy Barcelona, but this was our first time there in August. Like any other major European city, most of the places you want to visit outside of the major tourist landmarks are closed. And the towns aren't full of locals, just europeans visiting from other countries.

Glad you reported back, so we know you didn't die in a freak accident or got got by a swindling twink.
Just missed a heatwave too, lucky you.

That's crazy R44. It's also crazy that three people have died the exact same way, from falling from the cannon. People, especially from the States, always think that socialist governments are nanny states, telling you what you can and can't do. One of the first things you get adjusted to as an American living in Europe, coming from such a litigious country like the US, is the idea that just because you can do it, doesn't mean it's safe. We are just under the impression that if they allow me to do it, then it must be safe - otherwise it would be blocked off. "It must be safe to walk all the way out onto this cliff, otherwise it would be blocked off, or at least a sign..." "It must be safe to ride this scooter through the cobblestone streets, otherwise they wouldn't let me do it..." "There would be a guardrail here if I were in danger of driving over the edge..." Not so. In parts of Florence the sidewalks are 8" wide going around a corner where you can't see the traffic on the other side and you think "Wow, they must not allow traffic down this street, otherwise people would get hit all the time." But they do, trucks even, and people do get struck. You have to look out for yourself and use common sense. Americans can be mirco-managed with signs and placards and warnings to the point where they have no more personal common sense - if the coffee feels scalding in the cup in your hand, maybe I shouldn't gulp it down.

I don't understand how anyone can think it's remotely safe to climb on a rusty-ass cannon from a bygone age. Anyone with even a basic sense of self-preservation can see how dangerous that is, even without a warning sign. Also, don't climb on historical artefacts and cultural heritage just in general, it's so disrespectful.
