Thank you IMMEASURABLY for the new thread, OP xxx
by Anonymous | reply 1 | August 4, 2024 10:23 AM |
The last thread wasn’t even at 585 when our new OP posted this one. Somebody really wanted to be first.

NOLE NOLE NOLE.
Bravo to the GOAT
by Anonymous | reply 9 | August 4, 2024 3:04 PM |
Credit to Djokovic - his level was phenomenal. Well deserved.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | August 4, 2024 3:08 PM |
So happy for Djokovic. He had me tear up for him.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | August 4, 2024 3:10 PM |
Your accolades should have finished up and fouled the still open last thread instead of littering this one. The lies about his injured knee are just as disingenuous as the lies about getting vaccinated before the AO.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | August 4, 2024 3:36 PM |
Novak still doesn’t come close to either of our combined records of major titles and Olympic medals. He could play for another decade and never catch up.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | August 4, 2024 4:02 PM |
Nothing has made me happier for 172 threads than your misery over Djokovic's success and popularity. You truly helped me understand the meaning of schadenfreude.
Women's tennis is a different sport, Djokovic could play on WTA for another decade and never lose a match.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | August 4, 2024 4:06 PM |
You’re post makes no sense. It was not a post of men playing women, moron. It was a comparative analysis of tennis success—which comparison is not favorable to him.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | August 4, 2024 4:10 PM |
'Popularity'?
Is that why he's constantly melting down at crowds all over the world because they hate his guts?
by Anonymous | reply 16 | August 4, 2024 4:11 PM |
R3- I would have to see that ASS FULL REARAL NAKED to decide if it was truly fuckable.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | August 4, 2024 4:12 PM |
It's anger, not misery, R14. Djokovic should have been banned from the sport after the AO fiasco and should have been defaulted each time he yelled at the crowd to STFU or screamed like a maniac raging at the umpires. This is no hero.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | August 4, 2024 4:14 PM |
He is no champion!
by Anonymous | reply 19 | August 4, 2024 4:17 PM |
But he is a champion many times over.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | August 4, 2024 4:31 PM |
Winning a gold medal at the Olympics in men's tennis is hardly comparable to winning a Major. A much more limited field, fewer matches to play, and only two out of three vs. three out of five.

I cannot tell you how much i wanna smack not punch smack like bitch his face when I see him do it. Vomit inducing.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | August 4, 2024 5:40 PM |
R31, you sound like a miserable person. He's doing it for his daughter. I think it's sweet. I know there many of you who think he's lying. I know it's easier for you all to believe that than admitting you're miserable people.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | August 4, 2024 6:45 PM |
Not as miserable as the Serbian Satan.
Go back home - you've missed an Andrew Tate episode, Djoke.

by Anonymous | reply 35 | August 4, 2024 6:55 PM |
Sure, throw a kid in any narrative to make it "sweet" and untouchable. Get the fuck over yourself. No one believes anything he says because EVERYTHING he says or does is to directly curate his image and perception of him to the world. We have years and years of his bullshit as proof. He's also anti vcxx because his body is his temple I'm certain. A temple that makes the most healthy genetic babies free of disease who will one day go on to play a violin.

DJOKOVIC IS A CHAMPION.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | August 4, 2024 7:32 PM |
Nobody in their right mind believes that Djokovic’s playing a violin after a win is for his daughter. He can claim otherwise all he wants, but it is clearly a message for his haters, of which there are millions and millions and millions around the world.
Has there ever been a more widely loathed champion?

The consecutive Masters leading up to the USO just don't seem as exciting this year crammed in after the Olympics. Novak and Alcaraz aren't playing in Canada. Maybe I'll be ready to go by Cincy. Maybe I'm just tired from all these consecutive big events. French to Wimbledon to Olympics has all been in a pretty condensed time frame.
by Anonymous | reply 74 | August 6, 2024 10:12 PM |
The Olympics is maybe as prestigious as Monte Carlo, which is barely a 1000-level event.

I was watching Gods of Tennis last night and realized Martina Navratilova basically ruined tennis, in the 1970s and 1980s tennis was fun and exciting. We knew the personalities of the players, their strengths and weaknesses. Then Nancy Lieberman came along and had Navratilova go on a special protein diet, got her strength training coach, aerobic coach, sports medicine masseuse. All of the other players - including the men - said “We barely had a tennis coach. That was it. We didn’t behave like a science project.”
After Navratilova, everyone had to get coaches, work out, run, do strength training….it became boring. No personalities anymore. Just lobbing a ball among 2 automatons,

One of my friends in the 1970s volunteered at the Cincinnati event, and they assigned him to be the towel boy in the men's locker room. He saw all the major players naked, cocks, balls, bushes and asses all around. He was sworn to secrecy if he ever wanted to be present at the event again. I assume he was talking about some combination of Bjorn Borg, Ilie Nastase, Jimmy Conners, Vitas Gerulaitis, Adriano Panatta, Guillermo Vilas, John Newcombe, Roscoe Tanner, Arthur Ashe, John McEnroe and who knows who else.
by Anonymous | reply 125 | August 8, 2024 9:55 PM |
R125, I'm presuming that if your friend is still alive, he's no longer concerned about being able to volunteer. Did he ever break his secrecy about Borg, Gerulaitis, Panatta, Vilas, Ashe, Pecci, Clerc or Noah? I couldn't care less about Nastase, Connors, Newcombe, Tanner or McEnroe.

R125 here. My friend never told anyone about who he saw, but he did describe some particular details about their nude bodies that stood out. I pleaded with him to give me the names associated with the details, but he didn't want the shame of being kicked out of an upper class event, as it was back then. Reputation is important around here. Shame is highlighted in social circles. I've lost track of him. Maybe when he gets older he'll spill the beans, if he hasn't already.

Seb is on a roll having won DC. Really gaining some momentum in these slightly-weakened fields during and immediately after the Olympics. But he needs a Slam breakthrough. He has like one QF and often loses when he seems to be playing well.

The Olympics crazily cut into summer tennis in a weird way. The US Open starts in less than two weeks. It feels like Wimbledon ended yesterday. I usually am pining for the USO to start, anxious for more Slam tennis. Now it's just suddenly upon me and I haven't even had time to crave it.
by Anonymous | reply 251 | August 14, 2024 7:35 PM |
R251 I'm a bit worried about the USO - so many players seem to be carrying or recovering from significant injuries or illnesses (De Minaur, The UGOAT, Il Gingio) or extremely out of form due to the intense schedule and frequent change of surfaces. It could be entertaining in that it turns into a lottery with some dark horses having fun deep runs... or it could just be a bit of a joke.

RAIN R300. It's been frustrating. I had tickets for Tuesday, Thursday and today. I didn't realize the finals were scheduled for Monday primetime. We blew off today because it rained all morning and thought it would all day, but it cleared up about 11am. What is more aggravating is some of the players clearly don't want to be here. Coco for one. I think Carlos was shocked Gael could hang with him, but he only had to play 2 sets today. What kills me is they used to have an LGBT night, but I guess they haven't since COVID. DUH-RAMA... between Jack and Felix on match point. Draper shanked a drop shot - his racquet head was so low it was just above touching the court. On slo-mo it was clear the the ball actually bounces on his side of the court before going over. Umpire misses is and awards the point, and the match to Jack.
Felix appeals, Jack says he's willing to replay the point (although if it bounced he should lose the point).
Really tense at the net - tho Felix clear that it's on the umpire, not Jack, to make the right decision.
by Anonymous | reply 320 | August 17, 2024 7:51 AM |
R320, as someone said elsewhere, it wasn't bad sportsmanship by Draper, but it wasn't good either. He should have conceded the point.
by Anonymous | reply 323 | August 17, 2024 1:25 PM |
Yeah, very tricky - it was on match point - I can see most players struggling to do the absolute 'right thing' in that situation. There are quite a few examples of Draper being sportsmanlike in other situations, so I'd probably be inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt this time - but he needs to be careful going forward.
by Anonymous | reply 324 | August 17, 2024 1:49 PM |
I must have terrible eyesight, but when I watch the slo-mo replays of that shot, I see a legitimate half-volley off Draper’s frame. I suppose what really happened was that Aliassime’s ball came off Draper’s frame, then bounced on Draper’s side of the net, up onto the net-cord and then dropped onto Aliassime’s side of the court?
by Anonymous | reply 325 | August 17, 2024 4:14 PM |

Looks like Draper's been unfairly maligned. Ball hits the ground BEFORE it hits his racquet, then spins upwards with the shank - possibly a double hit, but that's legal if it's part of one swing.

Nearly unanimous consensus in review of the replay is that the point should have been awarded to Felix, who was robbed. Why wouldn't an ATP 1000 event have access to a video replay in a situation like this. Unacceptable.

R347. Only problem: the ball DID NOT hit the ground after hitting Draper's racquet.
by Anonymous | reply 350 | August 17, 2024 10:20 PM |
In R348 look at Tsitsipas' tweet at the O:04 mark: "The replays seem fairly compelling (although nothing is ever 100 per cent) that the ball hit his frame and actually hit the ground – and, quite possibly, glanced off his racquet again on the way back up."
by Anonymous | reply 352 | August 17, 2024 10:52 PM |
R352 and if you look at the video in R350 - which is a much closer shot - the ball clearly does NOT hit the ground after hitting the frame of Draper's racquet.
by Anonymous | reply 353 | August 17, 2024 10:58 PM |
That's not the only issue, R353. It also looks like a double bounce on Draper's racquet, "quite possibly, glanced off his racquet again on the way back up." Not fair to malign Draper about it, regardless.

by Anonymous | reply 398 | August 19, 2024 3:27 PM |
CoCo probably won't get out of the 1st round. I think she's over tennis, her parents, etc. She could retire, take care of her family for the rest of their lives. She does not have the hunger of the all time greats. Court, King, Evert, Navratilova, Graf and Serena in the open era, always bounced back and each had long strings of dominance.
by Anonymous | reply 399 | August 19, 2024 6:14 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 426 | August 20, 2024 6:40 PM |
Like the rest of the professional tennis world, the whole system is fraught with inconsistencies, obfisicustion, mystery and financial motivations. Who has the best chemists, most ruthless agents and most powerful sponsors?
The fans are hidden from the rules of drug testing, appearance fees for everything from Masters 1000 to the opening of a laundromat in Estonia, the cost of coaching and physios and practice partners or others.
They are allowed a certain number of steroid injections. How many? Just fucking tell us. Miraculously, more than 50 percent have ADHD so they're on Adderall. WTF, no commentary necessary? Even McEnroe who can't keep his mouth shut about anything has remained silent on these subjects.
by Anonymous | reply 427 | August 20, 2024 7:23 PM |
Honest question: Doesn't this type of obfuscation exist in every sport? Does the ATP/ITF have their own set of rules, or are they governed by WADA? It seems like professional tennis has their own governing body. It all seems very confusing, which could be designed that way to exploit more grey area in the rules.
by Anonymous | reply 428 | August 20, 2024 7:37 PM |
R428, the bureaucracy around drug testing in sports is almost incomprehensible. The ITF, which actually does drug testing for the ATP, says it is applies all of WADA's procedures and rules but, as we've seen in the case of the Chinese swimmers, even WADA's rules are highly "flexible."

Sara Errani claimed she accidently ingested a banned substance when it fell into the tortellini her mother was making.

There has been a notable increase recently in the use of Clostebol by Italian athletes. (This article, btw, was written before Sinner's positive tests became public.) The drug can be bought over the counter in Italy, but it is marked with the label DOPING, in English, with a red cross through the word. It's been speculated that it may be being used as a masking agent, something that can conceal the presence of more powerful drugs.
Sinner's physio was involved in a doping case with an Italian basketball player in which this drug had been used.

by Anonymous | reply 450 | August 21, 2024 6:28 PM |
Yeah, idiots always defend the druggies by saying, "But theyz don't look like theyz bodybuilders!" But as you point out PEDs aren't only about that. That Russian figure skater girl that was caught doping at the last winter Olympics is a prime example. She would have been doping to be able to practice the taxing stuff like jumps many more hours a day than her competition. More timne to practice the jumps, the better the results. The women would have to play at 9am to get them off the courts before the men played. Bud Collins wrote of an 11 year old ball boy who boycotted the women's doubles final in 1975 featuring Evert/Navratilova. His dad apologized to Chrissie, saying in a couple of years he will understand.

US Open 2024: Why Naomi Osaka is now working with a BALLET coach... and how it helps the tennis star have fewer 'breakdowns' on court
Two-time US Open champion Naomi Osaka has opened up on how working with a ballet coach has prevented her from more ‘breakdowns’ on court.
The 26-year-old, who won here in 2018 and 2020, is back at Flushing Meadows as a wildcard after missing the whole of 2023 after giving birth to her daughter, Shai, last July.
lliott is a dancer and choreographer who now works as Osaka’s movement coach - and her mental coach. The tennis star has been having lessons in ballet and how to control her emotions on the court.
‘I'm really grateful for her. We do journaling sessions and she's actually the one that told me to get my little journal book that I read on court sometimes,’ Osaka revealed on Saturday.
‘I remember in Cincinnati the day before my qualifying match, I was having a really hard time and an hour before the match I asked if I could talk to her.
‘We talked it through. Then obviously I was able to win the match, and I felt pretty good after that. I have had these moments where I have kind of had a breakdown on court.
‘I feel like if I didn't talk to her, that might have possibly could have happened again in that moment.’
Osaka takes on No 10 seed Jelena Ostapenko in a mouthwatering first-round tie between two Grand Slam champions.
‘I made a promise to myself to be as confident as I can in the fact that I am who I am,’ Osaka said.

He's fine, he just wanted to skip practice, Novaxx too. Sponsors are making the practice sessions like exhibitions and I don't think the top players like it. TBF, they must be exhausted this year and NYC is it's own added stress. I'm tired of watching they must be tired of travelling.
