I don’t know about which is more impressive and accomplished. Michelle has the more impressive education, Kamala has the more impressive CV. Both are in the top .1% of the class, regardless.

The art of the troll is to sow dissension. The best way to do that is to find minor ways to get people riled up and start a fight. Some do it subtly. Others choose the more direct approach. See 2007, when they worked very effectively to pit black people against white women.

I think the two women are not compable except for being Black lawyers. Michelle was a lawyer for a millisecond and spent post of her time at the University of Chicago, doing community relations for an obscene amount of money and dancing around the fact that the school's hospital had no trauma unit although gunshot victims in the adjacent poorer neighborhoods desperately needed one. They have since remedied that. Michelle was an exemplary first lady.

Can we go back to trashing the Vairst Lady, and lay off the democrat women? At least until November.

R13, while it’s not a good thing that the surrounding comminty wasn’t being served fully served the by hospital, the hospital and university are private institutions and the hospital’s reason for being is to serve the research and training needs of the College of Medicine.

There is a sense of Michelle Obama as a selfless human being when, in reality, she was the family breadwinner. She was a fabulous first lady and deserves her due. But she has not dedicated her life to public service and was under no obligation to. Her title at the U of C Hospital was vice president of community and external affairs, which brings with it an expectation of expanded services. Instead, she and others created a program called the Urban Health Initiative, which steered poor people to other hospitals and hired David Axelrod to sell it. No comparisons are needed of Michelle and Kamala. But Michelle's halo needs to be adjusted. She is a brilliant, talented, dynamic, gracious woman but also very shrewd and profit-oriented.

I don’t get the warm fuzzies from Michelle, but she had a lot on her plate as the first African American FLOTUS. She handled it well.

The thing that bugged me about Michelle was how she seemed to snark on Barack in the early days of his first campaign. She would say that he had bad breath from smoking and that when she first met him she thought that he had a weird name. But I think that his team toned down her criticisms. She’s also very independent and had to resent having her life controlled the way it was. But she is definitely one of the more accomplished First Ladies we’ve had.

The really accomplished first ladies, Michelle and Hillary, have to bake cookies and have nonthreatening projects so as not to arouse Republican resentment. Even Jill Biden got bashed for using Dr. Biden.

For one, she’s not a doormat and I welcome the change.

I hate that we have to pick one when two women achieve success and have something marginally in common. I do admire that Kamala was not married until she was 50. A lot of women who achieved great success had the help, safety net and connections of a wealthy husband or father. Nothing wrong with that, most successful men had family help too. But I do tip my hat to Kamala for going it alone, staying single and achieving so much in a world where that is hard to do. It's hard as a single gay man. I can only imagine the shit she had to brush off her shoulder.

That doesn't mean I dislike Michelle even though she came to prominence in a more traditional role.

Dislike is too strong a word. I have adjusted my expectations of Michelle, do not see her as a saint and am never disappointed when she complains about having to straighten her hair as first lady or signs a deal to market juices for kids, and pretends she's doing something transformative. I see politicians and their spouses as mere mortals. I don't expect them to inspire me in order to vote. I expect them to clean up once they leave office, not while they're in it. The book tour appearances of Oprah and Michelle make me want to puke, mostly because of Oprah but no one forces me to attend.
