Teri Hatcher

The only child of an upper class parents, she grew up in the Bay area with dreams of being a ballerina.

Her first role was as a mermaid in TV's The Love Boat. In 1993, she landed the role of Lois Lane in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, where she became one of the "It Girls" of the 1990's. When the series ended, she went on to appear in Seinfeld and later as a regular on the ABC hit Desperate Housewives, playing the bubbly hopeless romantic Susan Mayer. Simultaneously, she appeared in films; Tango & Cash, Soapdish, Tomorrow Never Dies, Spy Kids, and Coraline. Today you can catch her on YouTube, where she focuses on her real passion; healthy eating.

What are DL's thoughts on Teri Hatcher?

I've heard she is difficult, others say professional.

by Anonymousreply 1July 28, 2024 4:43 PM

She IS Terri Hatcher!

by Anonymousreply 2July 28, 2024 4:44 PM

She made a great Lois Lane--the only one besides Margot Kidder who was neurotic enough to be any fun.

Most of the others Lois Lanes are far too virtuous.

by Anonymousreply 3July 28, 2024 4:44 PM

Oops! She IS Teri Hatcher!

by Anonymousreply 4July 28, 2024 4:44 PM

I haven’t really seen her in much other than Lois and Clark, which I liked. Don’t have any strong opinion, but thought she was appealing.

by Anonymousreply 5July 28, 2024 4:49 PM

When I was a kid, I watched Tomorrow Never Dies and thought it was great because they killed Lois Lane off halfway through.

by Anonymousreply 6July 28, 2024 5:10 PM

I was at a nice hotel once where she was also a guest. I saw her frequently with her daughter and remember thinking she was a kind and attentive mother. Very nice to the staff, too. I really don't know much about her career.

by Anonymousreply 7July 28, 2024 5:20 PM

"They're real, and they are spectacular!"

by Anonymousreply 8July 28, 2024 5:21 PM

She was friends with George and Barbara Bush

by Anonymousreply 9July 28, 2024 5:21 PM

I remember reading that the cast of DH bonded over their dislike of Terri which is always suspicious. I'm sure jealousy was involved.

by Anonymousreply 10July 28, 2024 5:26 PM

When ‘Desperate Housewives’ was being developed she was assured that she would be the lead as she was repped by Paradigm, the same agency that repped Mark Cherry. So she came into the show thinking she was the star even though it was written for four solid lead women and a fifth ‘villain’ (Nicolette Sheridan). This created conflict almost immediately on set and came to a head during the infamous Vanity Fair photo shoot where she insisted on being in the center of the photo. Towards the end of the show’s run, she stopped talking to her cast mates with the exception of the actress who played her daughter and the actor who played her love interest. One actress in particular, Marcia Cross, hated her and did not invite her to her wedding, which was attended by all of the other women.

by Anonymousreply 11July 28, 2024 5:34 PM

I’ve heard all the stories about her being miserable but I had a chance encounter with her a few years ago and she couldn’t have been lovelier. My husband and I went and saw Countess Luann’s cabaret show in LA (the gayest sentence I’ll ever type), and Teri happened to be there, seated right behind us. She was laughing and clapping along, and at one point I turned around and said “I have to tell you, it’s slightly surreal to watch a Desperate Housewife, watching a Real Housewife.” She laughed and we chatted for a few minutes and exchanged pleasantries. Obviously this was a brief encounter but her energy was so friendly and relaxed, it had me reassessing all the things I’ve read - perhaps the other three women on that show were the real harpies.

by Anonymousreply 12July 28, 2024 5:35 PM

When I’m not getting her mixed up with Hunter Tylo, I think she was cute in that commercial with the football player.

by Anonymousreply 13July 28, 2024 5:40 PM

Nicolette Sheridan was the real problem on that set. It was Nicolette's fault the beef happened - she only had five or six lines but would show up not knowing any of them, so Teri called Cherry to rehearsal because she was annoyed Nicolette was constantly unprepared. Plus, I can't help but feel bad for Teri, and I just can't see her being a 'diva'. Eva Longoria said on live TV that Teri was a loner, meanwhile the woman was battling with her trauma from having been abused by her uncle as a child and dealing with a lawsuit happening against him because he'd done the same thing to a fourteen year old girl who had then ended up committing suicide. Of course she's going to more quiet with all that going in her head. And because of the rumors swirling around that Teri was a bitch due to not being as close to the other actresses, she ended up not getting many offers for different roles after the show, despite having won numerous awards for her performance. IDK, I just feel so badly for her.

by Anonymousreply 14July 28, 2024 5:45 PM

Kathryn Joosten, who played Karen, said that Teri was the only one who was nice to her from the main cast.

by Anonymousreply 15July 28, 2024 5:48 PM

She was no Cybill Shepherd

by Anonymousreply 16July 28, 2024 5:49 PM

by Anonymousreply 18July 28, 2024 5:50 PM

Vanessa Williams liked Teri and stayed out of the drama when she joined the cast.

by Anonymousreply 19July 28, 2024 5:53 PM

R17. God bless Kathryn Joosten! Tell it like it is, lady!

by Anonymousreply 20July 28, 2024 6:05 PM

R17 That tea was scalding. Nicollette Sheridan sounds unbearable.

by Anonymousreply 21July 28, 2024 6:07 PM

The actor who played Mike Delfino ( James Denton) loved working with Teri Hatcher so much that he recommend her when he was playing a role in a Lifetime Christmas movie ( A Kiss Before Christmas) in 2021. She played his love interest again in that movie.

by Anonymousreply 22July 28, 2024 6:09 PM

R11 is that accurate about Teri insisting she be in the center of the photo? I thought the story was that the others stipulated that Teri could not be in the center and one of the others through a tantrum when they thought the photographer was going to place Terri in the middle. And then Vanity Fair basically made Terri stand out anyway by making it a folding cover?

by Anonymousreply 23July 28, 2024 6:10 PM

*threw

by Anonymousreply 24July 28, 2024 6:10 PM

R22. I'd love working over James Denton.

by Anonymousreply 25July 28, 2024 6:10 PM

Teri Hatcher is a badass and a survivor. She was sexually abused by her uncle at age five. As an adult she provided testimony which ended up getting her uncle locked away behind bars. She's ok in my book.

by Anonymousreply 26July 28, 2024 6:11 PM

I have always enjoyed Teri Hatcher. I don't know much about her personal life and character.

by Anonymousreply 27July 28, 2024 6:11 PM

Wasn’t Teri accused of “bullying” Eva Longoria? Well, as someone who has met Eva Longoria, I can confirm she is a miserable cow. I work doing corporate meetings and events. And about 10 years ago, we were handling a group of Pharmaceutical representatives in Hawaii and it just so happened that Eva was staying at the same hotel with her family. One morning, we had coffee, pastries, etc. in the foyer for the Pharmaceutical reps before they went to their meeting. Eva and her assistant then came to grab the coffee and food, but since it was for the Pharma group, we couldn’t allow her to take any. After that, she threatened for all of us to lose our jobs, reported us to the hotel for harassment, and told us “Do you know who I am?” Luckily one of my fellow coworkers was the son to one of the regional leaders of the specific hotel chain we were staying at. But my favorite moment was when she repeated “Do you know who I am?” one of my coworkers responded “obviously no one important.”

by Anonymousreply 28July 28, 2024 6:12 PM

I did like when she called out Seacrest for stunt dating her

by Anonymousreply 29July 28, 2024 6:14 PM

No one has called out SOAPDISH!

by Anonymousreply 30July 28, 2024 6:17 PM

Back in Lois and Clark days I thought she was absolutely beautiful. Then the iconic Seinfeld part. After that...meh.

by Anonymousreply 31July 28, 2024 6:19 PM

Sounda like Marcia Cross and Nicolette Sheridan were the real terrors on that show.

by Anonymousreply 32July 28, 2024 6:21 PM

r32 That's my take on it also

by Anonymousreply 33July 28, 2024 6:23 PM

Marcia always had an attitude since playing Kate Sanders on MY show.

by Anonymousreply 34July 28, 2024 6:23 PM

Felicity Huffman is a "good actress" but also proven herself to be an entitled, hypocritical, fake, corrupt, cheating bitch, so there's that. I do respect a despicable person who is professional at work, nevertheless.

by Anonymousreply 35July 28, 2024 6:25 PM

Perhaps the nicest person was Vanessa Williams in her brief run on that show. Nobody ever talks smack about her, and she's gorgeous.

by Anonymousreply 36July 28, 2024 6:26 PM

I wonder if Marcia Cross was always a cunt-- She also bitched (as a new young actress) about Erika Slezak having it in her contract to tape all of her scenes first on One Life To Live. She always sound very mean to me. Or maybe she is just very opinionated about teamwork/fairness on her shows.. Could be both.

by Anonymousreply 37July 28, 2024 6:30 PM

The story about her being sexually abused makes sense. At one point she was going on about the sexualization of women in the media, etc.— this from the actress who played the girl with perfect — and real — tits on a famous episode of “Seinfeld.”

Also her short-lived marriage to actor Jon Tenney (who I believe is gay though professionlly closeted) made me wonder what was up with her sexually. I guess her “Desperate Housewives” fortune allowed her to focus on her own emotional health and her daughter’s, which is great.

by Anonymousreply 38July 28, 2024 6:33 PM

There were a lot of big egos on that set. Marcia Cross, Nicollette Sheridan, Eva Longoria and Felicity Huffman sounds like a *nightmare* blunt rotation.

One of my favorite pop culture moments ever was the infamous DH Vanity Fair photoshoot where Marcia (allegedly) stormed off the set and screamed at a PA to “get your fucking ass over here and do your fucking job,” which I’m mentioning so as to say that there were no real angels on that cast, I fear.

by Anonymousreply 39July 28, 2024 6:35 PM

R37. Her name is SLEE, for Christ's sake!!!

by Anonymousreply 40July 28, 2024 6:43 PM

My view on the matter is that these women, at the end of the day, were coworkers and that is all they were required to be. I have plenty of coworkers I don't like and go out of my way to avoid.

by Anonymousreply 41July 28, 2024 6:43 PM

Did you ever wonder why she looked 10 years older than her age in Tomorrow Never Dies? Apparently she turned off the entire cast and crew with her diva demands and, you know, you can't do that to the director of photography and expect to look good. Pierce Brosnan couldn't stand her. Same with Madonna.

by Anonymousreply 42July 28, 2024 6:44 PM

Teri was pregnant during Tomorrow Never Dies.

One day she felt terrible and arrived late, Brosnan wanted to get rid of her. Once she explained to him she was having a difficult pregnancy, he was a gentleman about it.

by Anonymousreply 43July 28, 2024 6:49 PM

Cherry recently penned a letter of support for Housewives actress Felicity Huffman, who is currently awaiting sentencing for her role in the college admissions scandal. In his letter, which was obtained by Us Weekly, the EP recalled Huffman’s unfailingly polite interactions with a “big star” who displayed “big behavioral problems” on set.

“Everyone tried their darndest to get along with this woman over the course of the show. It was impossible,” he wrote without naming the actress in question. “And things went from bad to worse. Felicity still insisted on saying, ‘Good morning’ to this actress, even though she knew she wouldn’t get a response. I found out about this and asked Felicity about it. She smiled and said, ‘Just because that woman’s determined to be rude, doesn’t mean she can keep me from being polite.'

Cherry was one of 27 individuals who wrote a letter to the judge in Huffman’s case, as was Eva Longoria, who recalled how Huffman put a stop to the bullying that Longoria was experiencing on set. Longoria wrote that she “dreaded” working with the unnamed colleague, “until one day, Felicity told the bully ‘enough’ and it all stopped. Felicity could feel that I was riddled with anxiety even though I never complained or mentioned the abuse to anyone.”

by Anonymousreply 45July 28, 2024 6:53 PM

by Anonymousreply 46July 28, 2024 6:57 PM

R17 That is brutal. She let it all out!

Good for her. Kathryn Joosten did not suffer fools or divas lightly.

by Anonymousreply 47July 28, 2024 6:58 PM

R46 Unlikely, as her tenure on the show was cut short (thanks to her unprofessional behavior). Marcia is still close with Felicity and Eva, so this is likely to be Teri unfortunately.

by Anonymousreply 48July 28, 2024 6:59 PM

FYI-R28 copied and pasted their story from a Reddit thread (I will link it if you want proof) Word for word-minus the actresses name. However on the reddit thread it was about Teri Hatcher- Not Eva....

Interesting.

by Anonymousreply 49July 28, 2024 7:01 PM

Teri grew up wealthy in San Francisco. Maybe it is a regional thing.

I know Marcia Cross is from New England. She was also really close with Kyle MacLachlan.

Eva Longoria is a Texan, but she was also a supermodel.

Felicity Huffman is from New York and spent her childhood and educational years in Vermont and England.

by Anonymousreply 50July 28, 2024 7:01 PM

I just don't Teri raising her voice or being the "Do you know who I am?" type. My guess is Teri is a very introspective and emotional person who is polite but distant.

by Anonymousreply 51July 28, 2024 7:02 PM

R50 A supermodel? Isn’t Eva Longoria about four feet tall?

by Anonymousreply 52July 28, 2024 7:05 PM

Everyone and their mama knows Terri was a huge bitch in Desperate Housewives, I remember when they had their farewell episode, you had everyone celebrating and a letter written to everyone except Terri.

by Anonymousreply 53July 28, 2024 7:09 PM

R44 It has to be Nicolette Sheridan? She sued Marc Cherry and ABC when she was let go from the show.

I have a hard time believing it was Teri Hatcher. I remember when she won a Golden Globe for DH, and she thanked Marc Cherry for giving her a job when she couldn't have been more of a has-been. She seemed extremely grateful to be working again, so why would she risk being in the unemployment line once again by acting like a diva?

by Anonymousreply 54July 28, 2024 7:11 PM

[QUOTE]Eva Longoria is a Texan, but she was also a supermodel.

Eh?

by Anonymousreply 55July 28, 2024 7:11 PM

Huffman and Cross have always seemed like major assholes to me. All of those hags should have been thrilled to be on a hit show rather than cause petty dramas with each other.

by Anonymousreply 56July 28, 2024 7:12 PM

I'm going to say Nicolette cause she keeps getting fired from all shows she worked on. Recently she was let go from Dynasty.

by Anonymousreply 57July 28, 2024 7:12 PM

Teri Hatcher and Eva Longoria follow each other on IG. If Teri was her abuser would they really follow each other?

by Anonymousreply 66July 28, 2024 7:48 PM

Eva Longoria was actually pretty funny on the show but seems to have moved away from acting and into producing so she's no dummy. And who cares if she fucked her way to the middle. That's not uncommon in Hollywood going all the way back to bj queen Nancy Reagan.

by Anonymousreply 67July 28, 2024 7:49 PM

[quote] This created conflict almost immediately on set and came to a head during the infamous Vanity Fair photo shoot where she insisted on being in the center of the photo.

You might laugh from the sidelines, but in actuality there is absolutely nothing more desperately important than placement in a group photo shoot.

Teri SNATCHERS

by Anonymousreply 70July 28, 2024 7:56 PM

Eva has had several public divorces.

Felicity is a convicted criminal.

Marcia had anal cancer.

Teri comes off as balanced and stable.

by Anonymousreply 71July 28, 2024 7:58 PM

I don't know what to make of her. She could be a bitch or she could be a misunderstood loner/introvert. Or both.

Although I'm very chatty on DL, in real life I'm quite the introvert and detest small talk and fake pleasantries. Coupled with the fact I'm not a naturally smiley person, I'm often thought to be unfriendly. The fact that I've always been helpful in the workplace when asked for assistance, don't sabotage anyone and don't complain is overlooked, the only thing that matters is how much chit-chat you engage in.

I avoid co-workers or neighbors who want to be instant best friends or ask personal or intrusive questions.

I'm coming up on retirement and I know I would have gone much further in my career if I had been an extrovert.

by Anonymousreply 72July 28, 2024 8:07 PM

R72. You're my spirit animal. I'm very much the same way. Thanks for posting!

by Anonymousreply 73July 28, 2024 8:16 PM

R65 Teri Hatcher is not a republican, or at least wasn’t in 2021. She’s also been a big critic of Trump.

by Anonymousreply 74July 28, 2024 8:34 PM

Why are we pretending like either Teri had to be a bitch or the others had to be? Why can't we acknowledge that they were all probably cunts?

by Anonymousreply 75July 28, 2024 8:38 PM

It only occurred to me recently that if I was an actor, on location, I might prefer to be on my own, except for the work part. So many people want to mix work and pleasure but I'm more about getting the work done and then play. I believe Teri is bipolar and an introvert so I imagine you can come across as aloof and standoffish. plus she won the big tv awards that first season and that does bring jealousy.

by Anonymousreply 76July 28, 2024 8:50 PM

She doesn't even necessarily have to be bipolar or introvert. Think about how many people we now know are on the spectrum and weren't diagnosed as such back then.

by Anonymousreply 77July 28, 2024 9:00 PM

Terri was PERFECTION in Soap Dish.

by Anonymousreply 78July 28, 2024 9:16 PM

R76. She didn't win the Emmy

by Anonymousreply 79July 28, 2024 9:23 PM

Who says she's bipolar or on the spectrum?

Frist, she was abused as kid by her uncle. She most likely has trust issues and doesn't want to be vulnerable.

In 2004, she was the biggest name in the cast. Eva was a nobody, Marcia was one of many on Melrose Place, and Felicity was doing bit parts in TV and film. Marc Cherry told her she was the lead and the media treated her like the lead in S1 of DH. All the promos were "Desperate Housewives starring Teri Hatcher Sundays at 8!"

So, I get that she'd be a little upset and felt lied to.

by Anonymousreply 80July 28, 2024 10:00 PM

R74 It is well documented she was close with George H.W. Bush. I'm sure she was from that mold of Republicanism.

by Anonymousreply 81July 28, 2024 10:01 PM

A little-known fun fact about Teri Hatcher is that she was once a cheerleader for the San Francisco 49ers. She was a member of the Gold Rush cheerleading squad in the mid-1980s before her acting career took off.

Can you buy threads here at Datalounge rabidly raving about someone like you can buy on Daily Fail? You know those sickeningly glowing articles on the tabloid website about how the Beckhams are about to cure cancer, poverty and illiteracy in the world to unanimously swooning reader comments, all two of them. Because this thread would be the closest thing to it.

I have no problem admitting Teri Hatcher is a very fine human being and actress but oh boy the overflowing level of adulation by this one poster is a sight to behold. Is you Marc Cherry? Or is you Teri's publicist? Why so much fawning?

[quote]My view on the matter is that these women, at the end of the day, were coworkers and that is all they were required to be. I have plenty of coworkers I don't like and go out of my way to avoid.

[quote]Cherry recently penned a letter of support for Housewives actress Felicity Huffman, who is currently awaiting sentencing for her role in the college admissions scandal. She smiled and said, ‘Just because that woman’s determined to be rude, doesn’t mean she can keep me from being polite.' Cherry was one of 27 individuals who wrote a letter to the judge in Huffman’s case, as was Eva Longoria, who recalled how Huffman put a stop to the bullying that Longoria was experiencing on set. Longoria wrote that she “dreaded” working with the unnamed colleague, “until one day, Felicity told the bully ‘enough’ and it all stopped. Felicity could feel that I was riddled with anxiety even though I never complained or mentioned the abuse to anyone.”

[quote]R46 Unlikely, as her tenure on the show was cut short (thanks to her unprofessional behavior). Marcia is still close with Felicity and Eva, so this is likely to be Teri unfortunately.

[quote]R50 A supermodel? Isn’t Eva Longoria about four feet tall?

[quote]Everyone and their mama knows Terri was a huge bitch in Desperate Housewives, I remember when they had their farewell episode, you had everyone celebrating and a letter written to everyone except Terri.

[quote]R44 It has to be Nicolette Sheridan? She sued Marc Cherry and ABC when she was let go from the show. I have a hard time believing it was Teri Hatcher. I remember when she won a Golden Globe for DH, and she thanked Marc Cherry for giving her a job when she couldn't have been more of a has-been. She seemed extremely grateful to be working again, so why would she risk being in the unemployment line once again by acting like a diva?

[quote]I'm going to say Nicolette cause she keeps getting fired from all shows she worked on. Recently she was let go from Dynasty.

[quote]Teri Hatcher and Eva Longoria follow each other on IG. If Teri was her abuser would they really follow each other?

[quote]A little-known fun fact about Teri Hatcher is that she was once a cheerleader for the San Francisco 49ers. She was a member of the Gold Rush cheerleading squad in the mid-1980s before her acting career took off.

R95 [quote]She starred in the national tour of Sam Mendes' "Cabaret."

A large group of friends saw this show when it came to Los Angeles, and she was so bad that it ruined the entire show. She was skeletal skinny, her performance was just a one-note shrilling 'Sally Bowles.' It felt more like a high school musical than a professional production. We left at intermission, leaving a noticeable section of empty seats in the front rows. The very few friends who stayed until the end said the actors on stage all noticed it.

It seems we saw a totally different performance than the commenters on OP's YouTube link.

by Anonymousreply 109July 29, 2024 2:21 PM

I don’t think that Teri acted with any of the other women towards the end. There were definitely scenes featuring the four women say having coffee together on a terrace, and you only saw the back of Susan’s head.

A huge gripe was that when the show became huge, the actresses were renegotiating their contracts. The other actresses wanted to do this as one as it gave them more power, basically following what had happened with the cast of Friends. Teri Hatcher apparently refused.

I think it is telling that James Denton (Mike), Richard Burgi (Karl), and Julie Bowen (Julie), who shared the most scenes with her, have nothing but great things to say about her.

When the end of DH was announced, the actresses gave some interviews about it. I think Eva Longoria, for example said, "Oh, I called Marcia right away and while we were talking, Felicity was trying to call me..." that's not verbatim but it was something like that and the others said similar stories but when you took a step back, you realized that Teri hadn't called anyone or vice versa.

by Anonymousreply 165August 16, 2024 1:37 AM

After Season 1 of DH, Teri only really had scenes with James Denton (Mike), Andrea Bowen (Julie), Richard Burgi (Karl), and Mark Moses (Paul). They have all said she was great. So did Kathryn Joosten. After S1, there were limited scenes with all the girls.

Teri did share a lot of scenes with Nicolette Sheridan (Edie), but Nicolette was a diva on her own.

I think maybe it was a personality issue. I think Marc Cherry used Teri's name for S1 marketing, but once the show took off, he had no use for her. He also seems bitchy and gossipy. He adored Eva Longoria, Marcia Cross, and Felicity Huffman. I think he fed into the drama more than what actually happened. I also think Eva, Marcia, and Felicity just became close friends. Whereas Teri is more shy.

I think Cherry just loves drama and kept making it into things it was not. Teri is also a really sensitive person (especially given her past traumas). Like I said, the people who worked closest to her have nothing but nice things to say.

by Anonymousreply 166August 16, 2024 2:21 AM

Seems like Eva Longoria is the one bitching the most about Teri, calling her a "loner" and insinuating that Teri was a bully (in sentencing letter for Felicity).

Teri and Vanessa Williams got along.

I'm a loner, myself, and it has caused me problems at work. At my last review, there was nothing negative said about my actual performance, they just didn't like that I kept to myself.

So, I am sympathetic to Teri.

Eva, while very beautiful, sounds like she needs a gang of girls in order to feel good about herself.

I heard that Marcia, Eva and Felicity felt the show was an ensemble; Teri thought she was the star and the other women were her supporting cast.

by Anonymousreply 174August 23, 2024 7:49 PM

That clip @ R17 from Joosten makes Terri sound like a class act who knew how to treat cast & crew well, as one should.

I’ll never, ever understand people who haven’t the ability to do this. It really doesn’t take much, & it goes such a long way.

I’m even nice to housekeeping & the janitorial crew. I’ve been lucky enough to say that I have had to do those jobs in a pinch as well, & guess what? I was exactly the same as a housekeeper as I was as a manager in some office.

We like to bitch & complain about how it’s the younger ones who haven’t any manners or appreciation for ALL around them, but this shit has always gone on. You will always find the asshole or the diva who treat others poorly from every generation, regardless of how much money they make.

Terri was a very pretty gal. I didn’t know about her horrific history with her uncle. I hope she’s recovered from this as well as the other young lady who experienced the same as Terri did.

Hope they’re all healed, at peace, & doing well. ❤️

Teri and Eva Longoria spoke back-to-back last night at the DNC.

by Anonymousreply 176August 23, 2024 10:29 PM

R176 Teri did not speak.

Actually, I think Eva, Marcia, and Felicity are die hard liberals, while Teri is this traditional/moderate Republican. Maybe that caused some riff.

The show aired during 2004, 2008, and 2012 elections. Teri probably supported Bush, McCain, and Romney, while the other girls supported Kerry and Obama.

by Anonymousreply 179August 23, 2024 11:19 PM

I remember flipping through a supermarket tabloid while waiting in line, and I came across a strange story about Teri. According to the article, she was spotted in a parking lot, clearly frazzled and acting a bit odd. The story went that she was trying to find her car, but instead of just clicking the key fob like a normal person, she was wandering around, muttering to herself and inspecting every car she passed like she was solving some grand mystery. At one point, she apparently stopped, checked under a random car’s hood, and then stood there with her hands on her hips, looking perplexed, as if her car had somehow transformed into another model while she wasn’t looking. The article claimed that she finally found her car, but not before trying to unlock three other vehicles first, all while casting suspicious glances over her shoulder. Whether or not it was true, the image of a flustered Teri Hatcher playing detective in a parking lot has stuck with me ever since.

by Anonymousreply 190August 24, 2024 5:45 PM

I’ve told this here before and have probably forgotten details as it was so long ago but I was on a flight with Marcia Cross not long after 9/11. I didn’t sit near her but saw trying to pull her celeb card with the poor gate agent to get special priority boarding. Problem was this was on Southwest Airlines so her “don’t you know who I am” attitude wasn’t going to get her much. Also this was before Desperate Housewives so at that point in time she was at best a fading memory from her time on Melrose Place, which I guess would explain her budget airline choice. Anyway she did get a seat near the front of the plane so they at least put her in the first boarding group. She kept to herself during the flight and I never saw her again after we landed

by Anonymousreply 191August 24, 2024 7:45 PM

I sat next to Teri Hatcher on a flight once. Could not have been nicer to me. A ton of people came up to her she was kind to everyone of them, apologized to me if it was disturbing me, I laughed said no it was fine, that maybe they thought I was her husband so the next person who came up she introduced me as her husband...it was actually pretty funny.

by Anonymousreply 192August 26, 2024 12:14 AM

R192 I don't see Felicity, Marcia, or Eva doing that

Maybe Vanessa

by Anonymousreply 193August 26, 2024 1:52 AM

It would make me sad if the Marcia Cross rumors are true since Bree Van De Kamp was my favorite character on the show, followed by her gay son Andrew. I always wanted to meet her. My mom was very much like Bree, too controlling and type A when I was growing up, but she became my best friend after I came out to her. We would watch the show together when it orginally aired. Good times. Desperate Housewives was only good for about two seasons, and then it went down the shitter. I'm amazed they were able to stretch it for as long as they did. I grew up in suburbia, and life was never that exciting.

by Anonymousreply 194August 26, 2024 2:19 AM

R194 Nice. I think the show was solid (if sometimes unbelievable) for the first four seasons.

Season 1 was a novel come to life; Season 2 dragged, but still had the writing of S1.

Season 3 focused on Kyle MacLachlan, had Laurie Metcalf shoot up a grocery store, and Dixie Carter being as bitchy as ever, all welcome additions.

Dana Delany was brought in for Season 4, she was good, but the mystery was a little unrealistic. The time jump ending to the season was perfect.

The other seasons became what the show was originally parodying.

Don't think I've actually seen her in anything but I agree with everyone else who says she's a nice person. I've seen her twice (years ago) and both times she seemed very sweet.

by Anonymousreply 202May 8, 2025 4:38 AM

That Vanity Fair article about their disastrous photo shoot makes her seem fine. Looks like Marcia Cross was the main psycho cunt.

by Anonymousreply 203May 8, 2025 11:35 AM

Cherry once said, “One of my actresses on Desperate Housewives is not funny." He then offered that he coaches her by saying, “Sweetie, if you raise your eyebrow here, you’ll get a laugh.” He didn’t reveal the actress in question, but continued, “She does, and she gets nominations. Daddy’s little girl does comedy. I’m part daddy, part psychiatrist.” While he didn't name names, it's widely assumed he was talking about Marcia Cross. Cherry has also gone on record that he originally wanted Dana Delany for the role of Bree. So if Cross was difficult on the DH set, I have to imagine some of it was from having to deal with Cherry who sounds like he was particularly condescending towards her.

Random fun fact: Teri Hatcher is (or used to be) a very good bowler. She grew up bowling, belonged to Junior leagues as a kid & teen, bowled in Junior tournaments, the whole deal. One year, the producers of Lois & Clark rented out a Bowling & Entertainment Center for their season-ending wrap party. Teri, her husband, and her parents, were among the first people to arrive at 7:00 pm -- all with their own equipment -- to get on the lanes.

by Anonymousreply 210May 8, 2025 9:27 PM

A long time ago there was an article about George Cukor directing The Women and how Norma Sheree, Joan Crawford and Roz Russell each didn’t want to come out of their trailer first. There was bit of that on Housewives. Teri is a bit of a loner but no fool. Felicity was very frank, sometimes too much so. Eva just wanted to be part of the group at the beginning. Marsha seemed a little high strung or something.

I'm not surprised there were lots of diva antics on that show because most of those women were exactly that: divas. felicity Huffman was the only one who was a genuinely talented dramatic actress, and so she was the least insecure. Hatcher has genuine comic talent, but she's always been a mess (and it sounds like with good reason, given her background), and Cross and Longoria were just extremely pretty. So they were all insecure except Huffman, who has her own problems.

Marcia Cross had already shown on MELROSE PLACE a tremendous flair for a certain kind of stylized lunacy, R217. I wouldn't describe her (however comedy-challenged) as "just extremely pretty."

In Desperate Housewives, Marcia Cross and Steven Culp (and later Kyle MacLachlan) excel at the dramatic scenes. The fights between Bree and Rex really bring DH down to Earth because they are so raw and more realistic to what an upper-class middle aged couple would deal with.

Marcia was a better dramatic actress, and her comedy is more dry than Teri's, which is more physical comedy, Felicity's, which is more observational, and Eva's, which is more sharp tongued.

She’s also a graduate of Juilliard. I’m pretty sure they don’t let untalented people into their program… let alone work with them for years.

I like Cross just fine; to me, she was Bree.

Generally speaking, though, you can have tons of talent and just not be good at comedy. You can't teach innate timing.

She's best at playing a stark raving bitch like Kimberly on MP or Liz on EDGE.
