The name of this washing machine sounds like a late 1950's luxury car.
I guess this belongs on the underwhelm me thread but I felt it deserved a thread of its own.

I watched the few seconds that start off in a sort of "Tasteful Friends, look at this 1958 washing machine with its lighted dashboard control panel." Maybe the half-hour that follows (starting with the heavy wrist-slitting sight of the "narrator" brings some static electrical numbness or a sense of being almost alive to some sad motherfuckers but it's not for me.

That’s a good agitator.

I prefer my Lady Kenmore Combination Washer and Dryer!

My parents bought an RCA Whirlpool washer and drier in anticipation of my little sister's arrival in 1956.
Those boys were still at work in 1980 when that same sister had her first child.

Is THIS what DL has been reduced to?

Bought my Kenmore top-load Washer and front load Dryer (no window) in the late 70's.
Nothing complicated, no 'sensors' to go wrong, built like a tank. Still work fine.
When I go out looking to replace all I see is nonsense bells and whistles that likely require routine service calls, or parts replacements.

addendum to above: I did have the heating coil replaced in my dryer about 10 years ago, but that's it.

This is so ASMR.

I love watching those old Frigidaires. When I smoked weed a few years ago, I loved watching videos like OP’s. Totally unheard of type of washing machine today. They were made when General Motors made Frigidaire appliances. Stuff truly was built to last.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | August 26, 2024 6:29 PM |
R9- General Motors also made a brand of appliances called Westinghouse which included televisions.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | August 26, 2024 9:38 PM |
Those were the days, when appliances were built to last a lifetime, and men were MEN!

My Whirlpool laundry pair turned 30 years old in May.
My next washer will be a Speed Queen since Whirlpool does not make direct drive washers like mine any longer.

No they did not.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | August 27, 2024 12:01 AM |
General Motors owned Frigidaire and sold appliances under that name.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | August 27, 2024 12:07 AM |
General Motors had Frigidaire.
Ford had Philco.
Chrysler had Air-Temp.
American Motors had Kelvinator.

I found this video very relaxing...
by Anonymous | reply 16 | August 27, 2024 12:24 AM |
I don't know what the fuck is wrong with people who watch a half-hour of that sort of shit.
Freshly released from the booby-hatch, maybe.
I will watch a video of anything interesting. That doesn't extend to these creepy vids for the mentally/emotionally crippled.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | August 27, 2024 11:37 AM |
Dingy whites in desperate need of 21st century soap, stain remover, and brightener. The machine itself is fine.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | August 27, 2024 11:45 AM |
We had the Frigidaire stove from the same line from a 1958 kitchen remodel when I was a kid. The knobs were the same.
It was still there working when I sold the house in 1998. The only thing that ever needed replacing (about every 7 years or so) was the fluorescent tube that illuminated the control panel.

R18 Good thing you weren't around for art cinema of the 60s.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | August 27, 2024 5:07 PM |
I have no problem with that, R21, and I was, more or less, around for that.
It's hour long washing machine cycles for people who think, quite free from irony, they need more cotton batting to separate them from life and experience: soothing sounds and slow movements to protect them and buoy their shattered (from fuck knows what) nerves

Do you live on earth? There are many things that can stress one out. How about the high cost of living, health problems, or death of loved ones.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | August 27, 2024 9:55 PM |
And the solution to that is to stare at a video of a washing machine control panel for an hour?
The pit of stupidity and neediness really is bottomless.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | August 27, 2024 10:34 PM |
In 1958, no one was mixing the whites with the darks.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | August 27, 2024 10:49 PM |
You just can’t find a decent unimatic these days.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | August 27, 2024 11:13 PM |
70 Years old and miles better than my current machine. Think my parents had the same one for 40 years. That agitator is amazing!
by Anonymous | reply 27 | August 28, 2024 2:11 AM |
To Mr. Grumpy above, very few people with sit and watch that video. It's an amusement and it is, in fact, directly related to avant-garde cinema - the structuralist stuff. One theme was the time passing and the viewing registering that time. That video is just a whimsical video and it is also ASRM. People might listen to it. Who are you to judge people who might find relief in ASRM. It seems harmless - it's free - it involves no chemicals. What's your beef?
