Pete is a no. He doesn’t have the level of experience the ticket needs.
Love him but no.

Mayor of South Bend is not enough experience for you?
by Anonymous | reply 3 | July 23, 2024 1:47 PM |
Who checks more boxes than Mark Kelly? Who brings more to the ticket? Who matches Trumps and Vance’s story? Who is popular in a needed to win swing state?
Pete from South Bend or an American hero combat vet who has gone into space for extra points?
Vance sure could not say “I was a Marine what did you do?” to someone that has done so much more. And has a wife that took a bullet to the head for democracy.
This seems like an absolute no brainer.

Kelly had no political experience before being elected to the Senate in 2020. Being a combat pilot and astronaut may be sexy for campaigning, but they are not that relevant to governing.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | July 23, 2024 2:05 PM |
I voted Roy Cooper, reluctantly. He can presumably deliver North Carolina and possibly parts of the south. I hate to lose Josh Shapiro at the governor level, the same with Beshear. I agree Kelly is a bit under-experienced but Kelly, Shapiro, Beshear are all great choices. Cooper, I feel with little enthusiasm, ticks some good boxes, so it's smart choice if not an exciting choice and that's OK, so long as it gets the job done.

We are talking about winning not governing I thought? How much Sen time does Vance have? How much actual political office time has Trump had?
Winning is the only issue to be concerned about.

South Bend! It sounds like dancing, doesn't it?

And who's arguing either of them are serious candidates? This isn't a talent show. Harris is starting strong but she's not a perfect candidate. There are some gaps to fill that require a careful, strategic choice.

gretchen has pulled out and is working with Harris on her election campaign
by Anonymous | reply 10 | July 23, 2024 2:34 PM |
It’ll be Shapiro or Kelly. Mark my words.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | July 23, 2024 2:38 PM |
These are currently being vetted, per MSNBC (and, by extension, VOTN in another thread):
Roy Cooper
Tim Walz
Josh Shapiro
Gretchen Whitmer
Mark Kelly

We’re Democrats. We care about both.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | July 23, 2024 2:59 PM |
Tim Walz? Who is Tim Walz? How dare he ruin my poll!
by Anonymous | reply 14 | July 23, 2024 3:01 PM |
It's between Shapiro and Kelly, apparently.
I find Kelly physically hard to look at, but Shapiro's Israel stance triggered the progressives. So I don't fucking now.

nonsense. Winning is the most important because you can’t do governing after if you lose.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | July 23, 2024 3:31 PM |
You must like saying “nonsense.” I said we care about both. I didn’t say one was more important.
Republicans can afford not to think about governing when choosing candidates, because they don’t have any interest in governing.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | July 23, 2024 3:47 PM |
Is Kelly a good speaker?
Because the dems desperately need someone on the ticket who can connect with voters to make the case.
Joe, alas, has been a terrible communicator.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | July 23, 2024 3:49 PM |
Picking Shapiro would just be inviting so much blowback from young voters exercised about Gaza.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | July 23, 2024 3:50 PM |
Sadly yes r22. But his time will come.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | July 23, 2024 3:57 PM |
Who replaces Kelly as senator?
by Anonymous | reply 24 | July 23, 2024 3:59 PM |
r24 - Yeah, that's an issue. Picking Kelly means removing a Democrat from the Senate. AZ has a Democratic governor, but it appears to me that in the given circumstances she won't be able to appoint a replacement for the balance of his term -- she'll have to call a special election to fill Kelly's seat if he becomes VP. Does anyone know more about this?
by Anonymous | reply 25 | July 23, 2024 4:06 PM |
Seriously, WHY do people keep saying Kelly? The senate is already 50/50. It's bad enough we don't have majority. Why would she want to poach a democratic seat? That would be suicide.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | July 23, 2024 4:09 PM |
Why not pick Kari Lake as VP on a unity ticket?
by Anonymous | reply 27 | July 23, 2024 4:37 PM |
I thought she was going to wait until shortly before the convention to make her pick, but she seems to be galloping towards that decision, seeing how it's down to Kelly and Shapiro already. Might as well.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | July 23, 2024 4:38 PM |
“ it appears to me”
An Ariz paper is saying that a replacement would be made by the Gov. A number of names mentioned who I don’t know but the paper claims they were good ones.
Do a google folks if interested

Newsom shouldn't even be included in the poll. The 12 Amendment states that "The Electors shall meet in their respective states and vote by ballot for President and Vice-President, one of whom, at least, shall not be an inhabitant of the same state with themselves." Newsom and Harris are both residents of California and there is no way in Hell that they're throwing away California's electoral votes.

Kelly has significantly more experience than Vance. His only demerit is he is the same age as Harris and I think she needs to go younger.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | July 23, 2024 4:45 PM |
60 is the new 45.
81 is the new 80
60 is prime. Not a kid like Vance with little experience not old like Trump. Just right.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | July 23, 2024 4:57 PM |
This is one of those times where winning is the only option. While I personally love Newsom and Buttigieg, I don't think either brings enough to the ticket. They'd be great and running the country, and they are strong campaigners, but neither brings a swing state to the table. Those who decry Buttigieg's supposed lack of experience forget just how well he did in his initial run for President. Had Biden faltered in Carolina, "Mayor Pete" might have gone through to the very end. His weakness was with black voters, and that would have been deadly in November. Kamala needs Pennsylvania more than any other swing state. There is almost no path to 270 without it. Her VP choice has to be someone that can deliver PA, or at least help her secure it.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | July 23, 2024 4:57 PM |
Arguably, Harris is a resident of DC, r 30.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | July 23, 2024 4:57 PM |
