Of course he is would put his hideous daughter in this as the pop star.
The only potentially interesting part of it is Hayley Mills’s role as the psychologist(?) helping orchestrate the capture. I can’t help but wonder if there will be an outlandish twist ending.

How is this hack still directing films? Almost everything he's done in the past few years have been flops. And yet, he still gets paid millions and continues to work.

[quote] I can’t help but wonder if there will be an outlandish twist ending.
My theory is that the killer's victims were all people who benefitted from nepotism and that's why he targeted them.

M. Night Shama-lama-ding-dong

Don't care if it's a flop, it's got Josh Hartnett, potentially shirtless.

Saleka Shyamalan is the new Lady Gaga.
What a talent!
She will be a superstar.

Saleka is so gud singer and she is also great actoress like me!
Why do we have thumbs?

Omg I’m so tired of hearing the term Nepo baby when Nepo babies have existed since the classic age of Hollywood and the industry is at its most fair today.
Ok has to get that off my chest. Now I will watch the trailer

I’d never seen her before so googled hoping for a good cackle. I was disappointed — she’s quite pretty.

I can’t wait. Old was entertaining. Ending could have been better. 6th sense is probably my favorite film. For about 20 years this man made films with brilliant premises and poor executions however he has redeemed himself since Split.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | July 21, 2024 12:34 AM |
R2 Split and Glass have combined gross of over 600 mil. And Old made like 100 mil. Do dataloungers just lie or are suffering from Dmeentia like Joe.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | July 21, 2024 12:37 AM |
I enjoyed Signs.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | July 21, 2024 12:38 AM |
I even googled to view the other recent films of I didn’t see. They don’t have huge grosses but made double their budgets. Glass and Split— both at nearly 300 mil—were huge success which are amongst his recent catalogue. I don’t why dataloungers just lie that. That act like mafuckin republicans. Stop saying shit if you don’t know what you are talking about.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | July 21, 2024 12:40 AM |
R12 I like Signs too. I think that his highest grossing followed by sixth sense.

To add to R11, not only do his movies return good to OK gross box office returns, most (all but two) were DIRT CHEAP to make.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | July 21, 2024 12:42 AM |
R15 Not just ok. Glass and Split were huge hits. I guess the older you get your perception of time changes so one still thinks the mid aughts is recent. I believe his only true flop was Lady in the Water and that was almost 20 yrs ago. But the dam Village movie is horrible. I was so pissed it wasted my time.

Knowing M. Night, the twist will be that his daughter is the killer because she's some kind of vampire or other monster.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | July 21, 2024 1:01 AM |
My guess at the twist-
Josh Hartnett's character is the serial killer.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | July 21, 2024 1:03 AM |
R20 I think the trailer established that. The twist is probably the pop star is the killer.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | July 21, 2024 1:04 AM |
The daughter is the killer.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | July 21, 2024 1:25 AM |
My guess is Hayley Mills torturing people in the cellar. I thought she was playing the grandmother or something, which is why Josh Hartnett is having weird memories.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | July 21, 2024 1:49 AM |
I love Signs, should probably have added it to the "movies watched a ridiculous amount of times" thread. I also enjoyed "Devil" immensely
by Anonymous | reply 25 | July 21, 2024 1:53 AM |
The twist will be the dad kills men because the little girl loves the taste of human flesh.
You heard it here first.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | July 25, 2024 3:20 AM |
Spoiler alert:
Josh (the father) is also the serial killer.

Trap abandons the slow burn of the arena closing in around Cooper after roughly an hour. The narrative picks up speed when he reveals his identity to pop idol Lady Raven (Saleka Shyamalan) and threatens to kill one of his captive victims if she doesn't assist him in escaping. Through some clever maneuvering by the singer, Cooper, his daughter, and Lady Raven wind up back at his house, where she reveals his true identity to his wife Rachel (Allison Pill) and his children.
Lady Raven manages to stay alive by using the psychological profile given to her by FBI profiler Dr. Josephine Grant (played by the legendary Hayley Mills), and eventually escapes Cooper's clutches. However, after a series of increasingly convoluted misdirects and escapes, he returns to his home to confront his wife one final time when he realizes she played a role in his capture. The movie ends with Cooper in handcuffs in the back of an FBI transport van, having been captured by Dr. Grant using her knowledge of his past, and a slice of pie filled with sedatives.

You’re an asshole.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | August 3, 2024 12:02 AM |
I've read/heard some reviews that mention that the film feels overly focused on the musical numbers by M. Night's daughter, to the point that it starts to feel like a Taylor Swift Eras concert movie. That alone is a red flag for me. Most of the reviews indicate that Josh Hartnett is the best part of it and gives a good performance, but it sounds like the movie is a mess. Poor Hayley Mills.

Night Shyamalan films after "The Village" always have the ugliest cinematography.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | August 3, 2024 12:47 AM |
Unpopular opinion but I thought The Village was a great movie.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | August 3, 2024 1:08 AM |
I liked it as well R35.
It wasn't a cinematic masterpiece or anything, but I've seen FAR worse movies.

r31, the trailer reveals he's the killer.

Josh turned 46 a couple of weeks ago. He is aging very nicely.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | August 3, 2024 4:40 AM |
He's revealed to be a serial killer in the first ten minutes of the movie.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | August 3, 2024 4:41 AM |
The suspense and tension is turned up to the max. I was constantly at the edge of my seat.

Pic at R40 has John Edwards hair. Did he use his $400 beautician?
by Anonymous | reply 44 | August 3, 2024 5:19 AM |
I saw the trailer for this about a dozen times and there was never a suggestion that Hayley Mills is in it. Age discrimination!

R41 = Josh

Josh is very articulate at r40. Not sure about that boobalicious sweater, though.

by Anonymous | reply 49 | August 3, 2024 2:02 PM |
What a godawful movie.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | September 1, 2024 9:23 AM |
There is no way the FBI and police would allow a serial killer who has escaped their clutches on at least three occasions within the last 12 hour period to kneel down and upright his daughter's turned over bicycle, let alone give her a hug, on the way to being put inside the paddy-wagon. As soon as he was cuffed he would be forcefully and directly taken to the vehicle without pause.

Thanks r51!
I always appreciate spoilers for movies they couldn't pay me to see.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | September 1, 2024 9:38 AM |
R53, that doesn’t begin to scratch the surface. The movie is so chock full of stupid shit, I wondered if M. Night was trolling me.
I can’t believe I actually paid to watch this. My gut said don’t do it, and I saw it anyway. Should’ve trusted Rotten Tomatoes. That rating had “Wait til you can see it for free” written all over it, and it was right.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | September 1, 2024 6:11 PM |
R53 he’d have 40 bullet holes in his cold, dead body at that point IRL
by Anonymous | reply 56 | September 1, 2024 6:19 PM |
And the way he leaves the ending open for a sequel so he can utterly beat the storyline to DEATH, no matter how banal the original was....classic Shamalan. I suppose Harnett can look forward to another pay day.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | September 1, 2024 9:31 PM |
Hartnett

Now on HBO MAX.
It’s truly terrible.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | October 26, 2024 9:18 AM |
Shyamalan is self-financing his movies now. Even so, I can’t imagine how this movie got made. It’s jaw-droppingly bad.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | October 26, 2024 9:54 AM |
Oh it's still a bit of fun to watch R59. No it's not great - but it's not that bad.
Hayley Mills was terrible. One of the worst actresses I've ever seen. Even worse than Madonna.
Mills was always oddly twisted or looked like she was frozen it time and close to death. It is bizarre.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | October 26, 2024 9:55 AM |
M. Night Shyamalan’s daughter Saleka is not only a beauty with a great singing voice, but a superb actress.

[QUOTE] Now on HBO MAX. It’s truly terrible.
At least you didn’t pay for it directly, like I did. I should’ve waited. It’s M. Night’s worst movie yet, in my opinion. All of the others had some redeemable qualities about them, but not this. Even the one with Mark Wahlberg and the killer trees had some memorable ghastly kills and was fun for the stretches of time where Mark Wahlberg wasn’t on the screen.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | October 26, 2024 3:21 PM |
M.Night’s daughter looks exactly like him (in a bad wig.)
I guess that part is scary.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | October 26, 2024 4:00 PM |
His daughter at the end was the ultimate insult. That was the last straw. I figured she’d just have a few scenes on stage as the singer, in which case I was willing to let it slide. But when all roads came to her at the end, the whole thing fell apart and I was ready to strangle M. Night to death with my bare hands. It felt like I’d been had.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | October 26, 2024 4:04 PM |
I saw a clip of the scene with her and Josh and she’s supposed to be conveying shock and fear. She’s the Gen Z Sophia Coppola.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | October 26, 2024 11:24 PM |
Her perf is all about her eyelashes.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | October 28, 2024 9:44 AM |
It's too bad Shyamalan was behind this because the concept could have made an interesting thriller. The first part of the movie where he's trying to figure out his escape sometimes actually borders on suspenseful but it's as if Shyamalan was making things up as he went along and just gave up trying to figure out a good payoff. So many plot contrivances and holes and it felt twice as long as it was. Of course the joke is on me because I'm the idiot who keeps giving Shy a chance when his track record is abysmal
by Anonymous | reply 69 | December 4, 2024 4:45 PM |
Exactly, R69. There’s a good movie in there somewhere and you could see flashes of brilliance, but M. Night just didn’t know what to do with it. He would’ve been better served if he had a team helping him with the creative process, but his head is so big he figures he can do everything on his own.
