Young Man Interviewed At The Continental Baths 1974

He lives at home with his parents and he came out to his parents- RADICAL for 1974

I wonder if he survived AIDS. He looks like a bottom. Cute though.

He's probably been dead for forty years.

I agree with R2. Unfortunately if he was an active gay bottom in the early 1980s , he was likely among the first casualties of AIDS.

He's adorable. I'm so glad his parents were kind to him.

Jewish or Puerto Rican?

The 70s bathhouse/disco gays in NYC were the first ones to die.

My heart goes out to him. I hope he’s an elder gay and is having a wonderful life.

Bless his memory.

Young Man Interviewed At The Continental Baths 1974 Dies of AIDS 1994

by Anonymousreply 10July 20, 2024 4:09 AM

R7 True. Gays were already dying from HIV at a smaller number in the late 1970s before it was identified and given a name. First it was being called the gay cancer since so many developed skin and other cancers due to their suppressed immune systems, but many others were also dying from pneumonia .

Reminds me Scott Jacoby from The Little Girl Who Lives Down The Lane

That was a sweet time capsule moment. I’m still surprised- and heartened - when I see stuff like this from 50 or more years ago, where an outsider lends an empathetic (or even neutral) ear.

I think those of us who survived AIDS in the eighties and nineties feel a dark cloud hanging over when we see a kid like this, knowing what’s coming. I, like r8, want to envision him now as an eldergay who’s led a long and satisfying life. The odds are not in his favor, but one can always hope.
