Is there any OTC that helps that crepe paper like skin that happens on your thighs and upper arms? What have you used that actually shows a difference?

There are creams that irritate and therefore plump up the skin temporarily and creams with hyaluronic acid which that absorb/retain water thereby plumping up the skin but usually the molecules are too big to penetrate to the dermis layer. So, no.

Sometimes when I can’t sleep I come across actress Jane Seymour’s infomercial for CrepErase. She swears by it. And, while not a doctor, she did play one on TV.

AHA to exfoliate, Retinol to improve texture and help reduce fine lines. Use AHA and Retinol at night. Stay out of the sun or use sunscreen when using AHA & retinol as skin will be extra sensitive and sunburn alos will negate any positive effects.
Paula's Choice 10% AHA Body Lotion
Paula's Choice Retinol Body Lotion. Gold Bond had a retinol body lotion but I think's it's been discontinued.
Heavy Moisturizer. Cetaphil is very good. Get one of their varieties with avocado oil or macadamia oil. Kiehl's Creme de Corps is divine.

I drastically changed my diet two years ago, mainly because my work schedule changed and I actually had time to focus on it. Nothing special, lots of vegetables, whole foods, I guess it would qualify as a Mediterranean diet. I also added fruits, which I have never been a fan of. I also exercise a lot and am very active.
My skin has definitely improved, fewer wrinkles, I don't need moisturizer, circles under my eyes are gone (I have been using a cream for them for about 6 months though). It is true, you are what you eat.

Denial is always good. I mean, not always always, but I’ve recently experimented with letting parts of my body get some sun that I’ve usually covered up for fear that old flesh is disgusting — which it may actually be — and so far no one has remarked on my wrinkly old self.
That’s probably the one upside of finally realizing that to other people I look like an old person, and being forced to the realization that I’ve passed my last fuckable day.
It happens. You’ve just gotta embrace it. Either that or live like you‘re dead already. If the young find you disgusting that’s their problem. It’s gonna happen to them, too.
If other geezers find you disgusting, pity them and move on.

Pull the skin on the fronts of your legs tight and run a strip of strong neutral-color tape down the back of your legs, holding the loose skin firmly. draw a lone down the middle of the tape.
Do the same to your arms.
Tell people you're wearing vintage stockings.

I guess I should have worn sunscreen, not smoked and not laid on a beach for hours, but I did and I loved every minute of it. There was a period in my life that happiness was sitting on a beach, drinking Heinekens, smoking Marlboros and swimming in the Atlantic. I have sun damage to my skin, but I don't really give a shit.

retinA and plumping serums
by Anonymous | reply 17 | July 15, 2024 1:27 PM |
Unfortunately, no, there is nothing you can do if you have that kind of skin. Any kind of creams or lotions are useless. Don’t be fooled. The cheapest lotion will improve the look — temporarily. As in, a few minutes. Same with the most expensive creams.
Wear clothes that cover the areas that are crepey and don’t waste your money on stuff that doesn’t work. Eventually, it WILL get even worse no matter what you do anyway.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | July 15, 2024 1:46 PM |
You can use the best skincare treatments out there to reduce it by a small fraction… but at some point you’re either at war or at peace with reality. 65 is not the new 45. 75 is not the new 55. Getting old is a process of cellular deterioration.

The great thing that British skin expert Caroline Hirons says that you can reverse damage, to a certain extent, but you can't reverse aging. She's got fantastic skin and is around 50, what should be the first to tell you that the sun damage she got is the one thing she wishes she could take away.
Anyway, she's the best of all the skincare experts I've seen around and I've been following the area for about 25-30 years. She has a book, and her sight is really good. It's a worthwhile rabbit hole.

I have no idea, since I don’t have this issue… YET.
On its way, undoubtedly. Saving this thread for that time.

Cut out or cut way back on:
1. Alcohol
2. Coffee
Both of these things dehydrate you and fuck up your skin.
But no matter what you do, I think crepey skin is just part of getting older.

Yeah - the face is one thing, but the body is another.
I'm buying some retinol body lotion ASAP. I'll let you know.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | July 15, 2024 8:54 PM |
R28, a LOT of it is plastic surgery, particularly for Jane. And to be fair, that's definitely a way to eliminate creped skin: much like you need a deep-plane facelift to look tighter (but not the dreaded "too tight" look) up top, you can tighten the skin on most parts of your body by simply chopping the excess skin off and sewing it all back up. (This is common among people who've had bariatric surgery, but are too old for their skin to ever come close to returning to normal.)
Also, it'll definitely work on your ass, but your thighs are another problem: like your arms, you'd have to cut each open and excise the extra skin. In each case, however, you'd almost certainly end up with a huge scar running the entire length of your upper arms and legs. Considering how few people have done it (aside from people who've had gastric bypasses or bariatric surgery), I think it's safe to say that they've figured out they're stuck wearing a cover-up of some sort either way.
Retinol won't do shit for crepe skin: it merely stimulates collagen production. You can't just "erase" sagging skin with a lotion, period.

Strivectin - Crepe Cream. It works too.

At night I wash my face with a foam cleanser, then use Retin-A followed by a moisturizer. I use a foam cleanser to wash that off in the morning, then apply a vitamin C serum followed by a moisturizer with sunscreen. Over the last year I eliminated the crepe-like skin on my face & neck and saw a slight improvement with the fine lines around my eyes. Yes I still look old but my complexion is much better.
I got the prescription for Retin-A from my dermatologist and my Medicare prescription plan covers it.

This might sound weird and ymmv, but I have found eating green olives, using good olive oil, eating potatoes, eating correct b vitamin sources such as legumes, and also making chicken, meat and fish by roasting and boiling with bones included to make broth helps more with skin repair. I did use cerave products for a while and there was a persistent improvement. I just use Castile unscented soap and water plus a lavender shampoo and that’s it now. Somebody asked me the other day why I look so young so I guess the plan is working. But today I had a Kroger delivery and the dude said he didn’t need my id so who knows haha
