Who is more handsome: Young Paul Newman or Johnny Depp under 45?

They are very different, OP, and the both of them were exceptionally beautiful. Paul Newman was more of a classically handsome Central European type, whereas Johnny Depp was, in spite of his very WASP-y ancestry, exotic-looking and had softer, more delicate features. It's impossible to say that one was handsomer than the other as the both of them were gorgeous, so it's a matter of who is more your type.

Paul beats all.

If I include character as a criterion, then Johnny isn’t even in the contest. If we consider only physical gifts the question is too hard to answer. I have to go with a tie.

In The Hudsucker Proxy, Paul Newman has a scene on a massage table in the company boardroom (with a hot masseur). He was on the brink of 70, and still looked trim and muscular, with that incredible face and jawline. I was in my 20s, with no daddy issues whatsoever, but remember thinking "I absolutely would." I can't say the same of Johnny Depp for quite some time now.

The Ninth Gate is the most boring film I've ever watched. It could have been so much better and Depp looked like a scrawny cokehead in it. One of the few roles where he wasn't attractive.
