British Columbia

In terms of nature and scenery, it has to be one of the world's paradises.

What are your favorite places to visit?

In British Columbia all seems to breathe freedom and peace, and to make one forget the world and all its sad turmoils.

by Anonymousreply 4July 10, 2024 11:37 PM

I thought it was overrun by wealthy Hong Kongers moving their wealth before the British handover, and soaring property values ensued.

by Anonymousreply 5July 11, 2024 12:02 AM

R5, isn't that just Vancouver?

by Anonymousreply 6July 11, 2024 1:36 AM

I want to see the coastal areas.

by Anonymousreply 7July 11, 2024 1:48 AM

R7, you have to check out the West Coast Trail!

[quote] I thought it was overrun by wealthy Hong Kongers moving their wealth before the British handover, and soaring property values ensued.

I road tripped and camped thought out Banff and Jasper years ago and was looking forward to seeing lumberjack-types or Mounties and the whole area was Asian. Tour buses loaded with them, Asian workers, stores asking for bilingual workers. The only place I didn’t see them was in the campgrounds which I’m sure that’s not true now. My fantasy of Here Comes The Brides (minus the brides) was shattered.

I love the gulf islands!

R1, have you ever been to Chilko Lake?

by Anonymousreply 12July 12, 2024 1:48 AM

Home of The Highway of Tears. No thanks.

by Anonymousreply 13July 12, 2024 1:56 AM

All fun and games until the tsunami hits.

by Anonymousreply 14July 12, 2024 2:24 AM

Despite being British, you'll find there's nothing Colombian about it.

by Anonymousreply 15July 12, 2024 2:29 AM

Unless you enjoy cocaine or crack cocaine r15. r10 Banff and Jasper host a lot of Chinese in the peak season. By the way Mounties are always depicted elsewhere as wearing the dress uniform. Regular cops wear blue and navy blue or black like other police around the world.

Bears (the animals).do love our province. Coyotes too although just the BC Mainland, only wolves live on Vancouver Island.

I think the property values have greatly increased because it's a beautiful, desirable city in a stable country, r5. The same thing happened to London and Sydney. Tempting as it might be, not every problem can be blamed on the sinister Asian Menace.

by Anonymousreply 17July 12, 2024 2:53 AM

R17 - are you insane? There have been hundreds of articles about Hong Kong and Chinese buying up property in Vancouver after the transition and throughout the 2000's and 2010's.

That's just ignorant.

by Anonymousreply 18July 12, 2024 3:10 AM

What do 2000 and 2010 possess?

by Anonymousreply 19July 12, 2024 3:13 AM

R10 and R16 Aren't those places in ALBERTA?

by Anonymousreply 20July 12, 2024 3:19 AM
