I watched this good, gripping, tough and at times campy flick for the very first time on TCM yesterday. It’s the OG of women’s prison flicks. I loved it lots.
Matron was the ultimate villain.

One of the most shockingly evil villains in cinema history. And spare me the obligatory MARY! I’m serious. She’s the stuff of nightmares. And Oscar nominated!

My dear R4, haven't you ever heard of a little thing called "boarding school"?

Not sure if this is the first female prison film. I seem to recall Ladies They Talk About.

Great lines!
"I'm telling Evelyn!" "Don't make me laugh. Harper's first name is filth."
After Harper gets killed by Kitty with a fork: "Kindly omit flowers."
"Should I put her file away?" "No. She'll be back."
