Walmart launches bettergoods, an elevated culinary brand

Full disclosure I've tried bettergoods pineapple chunks in coconut water and it's fucking delicious.

You sound fat OP.

by Anonymousreply 1July 4, 2024 5:22 AM

I looked it up. The line features spicy salsas, plant-based and keto foods and a few Trader Joe copycats. No Walmart near me so I'll never know if it's good or not.

by Anonymousreply 2July 4, 2024 5:39 AM

Interesting. What took so long?

by Anonymousreply 3July 4, 2024 5:46 AM

Yeah, looks interesting.

by Anonymousreply 4July 4, 2024 6:37 AM

This will go over like a lead balloon.

by Anonymousreply 5July 4, 2024 9:58 AM

Is it premature for Fat Whores to Rejoice?

by Anonymousreply 6July 4, 2024 11:07 AM

As long as the items are EBT-eligible, it'll go over well.

by Anonymousreply 7July 4, 2024 11:12 AM

They tried selling organics without success. They're really past the point of expanding their base.

by Anonymousreply 8July 4, 2024 11:22 AM

Why is the word "elevated" being thrown around so much these days? It seems to have eclipsed "upgraded" as the fad word for luxury. Christ I hate the way retailers market their garbage.

Rant not directed at you, OP.

by Anonymousreply 9July 4, 2024 11:24 AM

I don't understand the point in wal-mart coming out with their own hippie ice cream. They carry a zillion brands of ice cream already including several non-dairy.

by Anonymousreply 10July 4, 2024 11:26 AM

According to the anti-Biden trolls, Americans can no longer afford to eat, so why would a smart retailer like Walmart introduce an entire line of food products?

by Anonymousreply 11July 4, 2024 11:32 AM

This has to do with the wild success of brands like Rao’s- that expanded into Walmart drastically the past three years, showing there is indeed a pent up demand for higher quality than what their Great Value brand offers. I welcome it as my husband won’t let me buy their lesser store brand.

Raos only had two jars awhile ago and now has several shelves and multiple sauces, soups and different flavors now and tops out at $9.50 for a jar or tomato sauce. It wouldn’t if there wasn’t demand for it.

I’m also guessing this will gut several hippie brands that would be competing for toe to toe for the same offering- I saw this happen with organic cereals- Walmart also stops stocking the item because of shortages tied directly to inflationary manufacturing costs and will leave it empty if they cannot reign in the wholesale pricing at they want.

I saw this happen with McCann’s steel cut oatmeal when the Ukraine war broke out. It was the only place to buy it at $6 and is about $14 a tin anywhere else now.

“bettergoods” has a distinct Orwellian sound to it, like “doublethink”, or “bellyfeel”

by Anonymousreply 13July 4, 2024 11:40 AM

r11 I think MOST people are saying. Not blaming Biden, but FFS, something needs to be done about the cost of food. I shop for ONE person (ME) and I'm always shocked at the cost. And, this is only in the last 4-5 years.

by Anonymousreply 14July 4, 2024 11:42 AM

"hippie ice cream" "hippie brands"

Jesus, why are you posting from 1970?

by Anonymousreply 15July 4, 2024 12:02 PM

R14: when so much money needed to be dumped into the economy because of the Covid crisis, inflation resulted.

This is a basic macroecomic fact.

The President is not responsible for food inflation. And to be sure, some of it is merely sheer corporate greed. i.e. opportunistic price gouging.

by Anonymousreply 16July 4, 2024 12:05 PM

R14, this is r10. I'm a millennial. I say shit like hippie ice cream just to be light about it. Life is silly. Anyway, I guarantee you knew what I meant by that which is what matters most..

The problem with Wal-mart is shopping there feels like a commissary. Well off shoppers don't tolerate being treated like shoplifting criminals.

by Anonymousreply 18July 4, 2024 12:28 PM

they need to strike a better balance between dealing with shrink and the actual shopping experience

by Anonymousreply 19July 4, 2024 12:29 PM

Going to wal mart is a ghetto experience. If I want better food I go somewhere else

by Anonymousreply 20July 4, 2024 2:25 PM

The logo and the packaging are reminiscent of (or a ripoff of) Target's Good & Gather brand.

I was in Walmart the other day and it appears that they've replaced their old store brand (Great Value) almond milk with the new BetterGoods version. Unfortunately, they didn't seem to have any unsweetened vanilla, which is the only kind I buy. Oh, well - back to Aldi.

by Anonymousreply 21July 4, 2024 2:42 PM

If you can’t get elevated goods, ordinary goods are fine.

by Anonymousreply 22July 4, 2024 2:46 PM

This couple has reviewed several of the Better Goods products in addition to those below.

I've bought a lot of Walmart products based on this couple's reviews that I would never have known about. Specifically, the seasonal Walmart bakery pumpkin sandwich cookies.

I never shopped at Walmart until a couple of years ago when I moved to a retirement area. The local Walmart caters to the retirees and is well kept.

The labeling does remind me of Target’s Good and Gather.

The point of the ice cream would be that it costs less than Haagen Dazs.

by Anonymousreply 25July 4, 2024 3:42 PM

Never expected to see Tami and Kevin mentioned on here.

by Anonymousreply 26July 4, 2024 4:15 PM

Time for a name change. Walton's?

by Anonymousreply 27July 4, 2024 4:47 PM

I buy my Rao’s from Sams in a 3-pack. Can’t remember how much it is, though.

Unfortunately, people shop at Walmart for the “lowest prices” although Aldi is generally lower. You generally don’t hang around and browse, you get what you need and flee the store as soon as possible.

by Anonymousreply 28July 4, 2024 5:03 PM

R27 They already have Sam's Choice.

by Anonymousreply 29July 4, 2024 5:04 PM

There is NOTHING “elevated” about Walmart.

by Anonymousreply 30July 4, 2024 5:28 PM

Isn’t that name kind of admitting the rest of their stuff is crap?

by Anonymousreply 31July 4, 2024 5:32 PM

No. The vanilla ice cream has corn syrup and three kinds of gum in it.

by Anonymousreply 32July 4, 2024 9:36 PM

Does that mean it's not coming from China like their "Organic" produce and frozen meats?

by Anonymousreply 33July 4, 2024 9:44 PM

It's not going to work. The People of Walmart don't care for "fancy" stuff; they're all barely scraping by, so whatever's cheapest is what they purchase.

by Anonymousreply 34July 4, 2024 10:06 PM

Fat whore review: I usually shop elsewhere but tried two appetizers, the figs in a blanket and the Gruyère croquettes. The former was okay tasting but the pepper flakes threw me off and made them spicy. The croquettes needed longer than the direction and seemed more potato than easy. I’m going to spend the extra dollar and stick with the Amy’s.

by Anonymousreply 35July 4, 2024 10:10 PM

Cheesy not easy
