Do you suffer from 'proctalgia fugax' (aka 'Butt Hole Pain') ?

Forgive me for asking a rather personal question to you dear reader, but have you ever felt a 'stabbing pain' in your bum hole?

Don't feel compelled to give that any sort of answer beyond a confirmation or denial in the confines of your own mind.

If you have, then it might be worth listening the the discussion from a couple of doctors on something called 'proctalgia fugax', which TikToking doc Karan Raj had some creative names for.

He was speaking to Dr Karen Tang about this, what it feels like, how common it is and what it could be a warning sign for.

I've had this now and again

by Anonymousreply 1July 3, 2024 9:36 PM

Do you mean "butt hurt", OP?

by Anonymousreply 2July 3, 2024 9:40 PM

I had this as a teenager, when my hole had growing pains.

by Anonymousreply 3July 3, 2024 9:40 PM

I had something like this happen recently, and have had it happen on occasion prior to the recent event. Although it's difficult to describe it as "stabbing." It's more like a very deep and intense pain (and in NO WAY pleasurable) that sometimes lasts for a good hour or more. It feels like a spasm of some sort.

Not fun or funny.

by Anonymousreply 4July 3, 2024 9:46 PM

I don't understand the question and I won't respond to it.

by Anonymousreply 5July 3, 2024 9:49 PM

Yes, occasionally. And nothing was near it, so to speak, before it occurred.

by Anonymousreply 6July 3, 2024 10:08 PM

I've had this all my life, as have most of my siblings. In my family, it's known as "knife up the butt." Nice to know it's based in reality.

by Anonymousreply 7July 3, 2024 10:08 PM

I have that. It’s manageable.

'proctalgia fugax'

I'm liking that for a drag name.

by Anonymousreply 10July 3, 2024 11:10 PM

My butt's fine, thanks for asking

by Anonymousreply 11July 3, 2024 11:16 PM

I hope I didn’t give this to any guy.

Used to have it all the time when I was a teenager/early adult and have described it as my butthole tightening so much it could cut sting.

by Anonymousreply 16July 3, 2024 11:27 PM

I have had this more or less regularly since I had some surgery to remove a precancerous area in that region. (Regularly as in once every 6 months or so). My speculation is that some nerve was affected by the procedure. Although taking an analgesic (no pun intended) and a warm bath is the recommended treatment, I found it to be much too slow to bring relief. (As anyone who has had it can attest, it's an excruciating cramp- like the worst charley horse of your life, but in the sphincter muscle region). I have had the most success using a back massager set on high just resting on the perineum. Usually the cramp will release in 3-5 minutes.

Unfortunately, I get them quite frequently for weeks at a time, then they disappear for months...and then return. I thought it was hemorrhoid related. It began about ten years ago, when I was turning 50. It's not fun - it lasts for hours (and I can't fall asleep at night when it happens before bed).

by Anonymousreply 18July 4, 2024 1:42 AM

If it’s a pelvic floor spasm, as the article indicates, then doing kegels every day may help by firming up the pelvic floor.

by Anonymousreply 19July 4, 2024 1:54 AM

Stairclimbing while suffering works as well - like pressing into a spasm.

by Anonymousreply 20July 4, 2024 4:02 AM

I avoid the stairs when this pain hits me - I avoid much until it goes away hours later.

by Anonymousreply 21July 4, 2024 1:36 PM

I get it it occasionally, never knew it had a name, but a couple of Tylenol helps a lot. Just sayin'

by Anonymousreply 22July 4, 2024 1:38 PM

YES - I've taken Tylenol for it, too. It does help somewhat.

Sounds like a horrible birth defect to me.

“Do you ever get the fugax?” “The WHAT?”
