Neil Gaiman accused of sexual assault

[quote]Neil Gaiman has been accused of sexual assault by two women with whom he was in consensual relationships and is the subject of a police complaint in New Zealand. Gaiman’s position is that he strongly denies any allegations of non-consensual sex with the women and adds New Zealand police did not take up his offer of assistance over one woman’s complaint in 2022, which, he says, reflects its lack of substance.

[quote]Scarlett, 23, alleges that Gaiman sexually assaulted her within hours of their first meeting in February 2022 in a bath at his New Zealand residence, where she worked as a nanny to his child. Tortoise understands that Gaiman’s account is that they only “cuddled” and “made out” in the bath and that he had established consent for this. His position is that, over the three-week sexual relationship that followed, they only ever engaged in consensual digital penetration.

Taking baths with a nanny forty years younger than him is a bad look regardless of the allegations.

by Anonymousreply 1July 3, 2024 6:37 PM

The same day they met!

by Anonymousreply 2July 3, 2024 6:42 PM

I ONLY FINGERED THE NANNY

by Anonymousreply 3July 3, 2024 6:44 PM

I’m sorry. If they entered consensual relationships with him AFTER these alleged “assaults,” they have no basis to complain.

by Anonymousreply 4July 3, 2024 6:46 PM

I can't believe some people are shocked by this. The straight guys who constantly proclaim their own "sensitivity" are always the worst. If he's scolding others on Twitter about their alleged lack of "kindness"... stay far, far away, gals.

by Anonymousreply 5July 3, 2024 6:49 PM

[quote]I ONLY FINGERED THE NANNY

His ex wife probably has, too.

by Anonymousreply 6July 3, 2024 6:50 PM

"Cuddling" and "making out" with the nanny in the bath the very first day you meet and employ her is bananas.

by Anonymousreply 7July 3, 2024 6:53 PM

I’ve always felt he was a creepy overrated cunt

Fingerbanging the nanny is some low, coercive shit

by Anonymousreply 8July 3, 2024 7:01 PM

His books certainly indicate a pervy mind

by Anonymousreply 9July 3, 2024 7:05 PM

[quote]I’m sorry. If they entered consensual relationships with him AFTER these alleged “assaults,” they have no basis to complain.

Bullshit.

You have no idea how a victim of a sexual assault would react, especially if she knows she will lose her job if she complains.

by Anonymousreply 10July 3, 2024 7:12 PM

I wonder what Tori will think-

by Anonymousreply 11July 3, 2024 7:16 PM

r4 obviously hasn't watched Baby Reindeer with the rest of us. Victims of sexual assault do all sorts of irrational shit post-assault, especially if the perpetrator is someone in a position of authority/power. That sort of experience rewires the brain in some people.

by Anonymousreply 12July 3, 2024 7:17 PM

[quote]I wonder what Tori will think-

I hadn't thought of that, but her daughter, Gaiman's goddaughter, is the same age as the nanny.

by Anonymousreply 13July 3, 2024 7:43 PM

It’s not bullshit. If you enter into a lasting CONSENSUAL relationship with someone after an incident, you waive the right to make a public fuss about the incident years later when you’re out of the relationship. Why should the rest of us, let alone the law, condemn your ex when you originally decided it was not bad enough to keep away from him. Completely different for a minor, but an adult’s choices have consequences, and one of the consequences of having a consensual relationship with someone is giving up the right to publicly cry “rape” years later.

The problem is no one can separate your motivations for making a complaint about your ex. Yes, it’s possible that you were confused or felt pressured, and only saw the incident clearly years later, but there’s a good chance your motives for going public now are about anger over the end of the relationship or revenge.

by Anonymousreply 14July 3, 2024 7:44 PM

Who is he? I looked him up. He's a writer, but really a niche one, if productive. Of all the pervs who've been expossed, why him?

He's always had a ton of devoted fangirls. I don't see the appeal.

by Anonymousreply 22July 3, 2024 8:23 PM

I think we recently had a thread where a poster wondered WHET to Neil Gaiman.

I guess now we know why he got so quiet.

by Anonymousreply 23July 3, 2024 8:25 PM

It’s definitely creepy to finger bang the nanny in a bath on the day you meet her, but I agree that the fact she stuck around for 3 more weeks of shenanigans makes the years later cry of non-consensual sex hard to accept.

by Anonymousreply 24July 3, 2024 8:28 PM

r23 He hasn't been quiet at all, he's been exec producing The Sandman TV adaptation for years now with the showrunner Allan Heinberg. It's just that the second season got delayed because of the writers strike.

by Anonymousreply 25July 3, 2024 8:29 PM

In other words, she changed her mind after the fact.

But he was a creepy asshole to make a move on her on DAY FUCKING ONE that he met her. Jesus.

by Anonymousreply 26July 3, 2024 8:29 PM

r24 Three weeks of being confused about what actually happened seems believable to me. I'd be far more suspicious of her if the relationship continued for three more months.

by Anonymousreply 27July 3, 2024 8:30 PM

Was she hot

by Anonymousreply 28July 3, 2024 9:19 PM

You don't understand-- I hired her to fingerbang her.

by Anonymousreply 29July 3, 2024 9:39 PM

If you have a three-week relationship after the fact, it cannot have been so traumatic, or can it? It's not as if he kept her in a cell.

by Anonymousreply 30July 3, 2024 9:39 PM

It’s not as if he moved her there to live with him….

by Anonymousreply 31July 3, 2024 9:41 PM

I don't know whether he's done anything that rises to the level of criminal assault. But Neil Gaiman is one smug, creepy mutherfucker.

by Anonymousreply 35July 3, 2024 9:58 PM

Gaiman has said several times (including to the New Yorker) that he's not a Scientologist. Palmer denied it as well. He tries to avoid the subject because his siblings were dragged into the cult by their parents and public criticism would invite harassment from the so-called church.

by Anonymousreply 36July 3, 2024 10:12 PM

According to Reddit, he and Amanda would try to recruit girls for threesomes at Bard, where he was a writing professor.

I've never been interested enough to pay much attention to him, but he always came off as smug. Amanda Palmer has always been an insufferable pain in the ass.

She claimed Gaiman assaulted her in February 2022, just hours after they had first met, while in a bath at his New Zealand home. Gaiman told the outlet that he and Scarlett “cuddled” and “made out” in the bath and that it was consensual; he added that in the three-week sexual relationship they were in, they only engaged in digital penetration.

Ok, even if you give him the benefit of the doubt and assume that is all that happened - who the fuck does that with a brand new employee on day one??? Just hire an escort for god's sake. But then it wouldn't have the extra frisson of "seducing the nanny," I suppose.

From Reddit: Obviously nobody knows me here, but I've known this about Neil for years. A close friend of mine is a local artist who has worked for Neil and Amanda off and on for years and had to deal with Neil's advances. They knew of others as well. I have posted about Neil's behavior on occasion on social media and sometimes women reach out privately to thank me for saying something, they have long feared coming forward due to the harassment they will likely face.

I'm not going to debate anyone here, but yes I spoke to the reporter behind this, who happens to be well known and award winning. He was looking for information, not a story, and the information is what informed the story he wrote, from people I know and a lot of others. What is presented in this podcast is a tiny fraction of what I and others are aware of. This is what can be demonstrated right now with the permission of the victims willing to come forward and face the inevitable abuse Neil's fans will heap upon them, but there are others, a lot of others. This is the tip of a very large iceberg.

I'm sorry this will impact his fandom, I know it's terrible when someone you look up to turns out to not be a good person. Be careful in your responses here, how you reply to this news will let others in this community know how safe it is to come out with their stories. If you truly believed in the ideals Neil espoused, if not lived, this community should be a model of how to support and create a safe space for the abuses of powerful men, even if it is Neil himself who was the problem. Once a woman makes an accusation, any support or defense of the man is seen as insulting and further abuse of the victim.

There are male predators. However, there are also female predators and women wanting to get money over false claims.

Both can be true.

by Anonymousreply 82July 6, 2024 1:45 AM

I didn't like "Girls" and I've only actually seen a handful of episodes....but "American Bitch" is a standout. Really excellent. And a stand-alone...you don't need to watch any of the other episodes to enjoy it. It was also pretty prescient as it came out a few years before Me Too, if I recall.

BTW, I don't think Neil just like jumped into the tub with the girl randomly like people imagine. He probably had a hiring 'agenda' that went way past making sure the candidates were capable of taking care of his kids. He was likely vetting them in terms of hotness, experience, willingness etc. She was probably a fan and blurted it out during the interview. It doesn't make what he did ok AT ALL.....but it contextualizes it a tiny bit.

by Anonymousreply 99November 15, 2024 9:01 PM

He used to be fun and the good kind of weird. I don't mind him fingerbanging the nanny (if it was consensual) - I am appalled by him not owning up to it. I fell out of love with him somewhere in Ep. 1 of Season 2 of Good Omens. Good Omens will always be a Terry Pratchett book to me. The Amazon series shows crassly what is missing when Gaiman does it alone. A lot of pandering, no heart, no depth - lots of creativity, I give him that. (A bit like American Gods which is the objectively better series.)

What I don't get is: Why didn't he hire an escort? Did he and his wife get off on the challenge?

Women really need to grow up and stop acting infantilized. These women chose to fuck him but want us to believe it was against their will, as if he put a gun to their head. This is why the public no longer buys these stories. Too many women with borderline personality disorder looking for daddy to come to their rescue because they either regretted the hookup or he didn’t leave his wife for them.

For a lot of the male "feminists" who indulge in trans activism, the misogyny isn't the primary motive, they have a child they want to prioritise - David Tennant for example.

But for a lot of men getting to tell women they're cunts and bitches and using "trans activism" as an excuse is a real dick stiffener. The pig ugly Scottish comedian was famous for "joking" about violently raping and assaulting women but became a trans ally by telling feminists to fuck off.

[quote]Scarlett Pavlovich was a 22-year-old drama student when she met the performer Amanda Palmer by chance on the streets of Auckland. It was a gray, drizzly afternoon in June 2020, and Palmer, then 44, was walking down the street with the actress Lucy Lawless, one of the most famous people in New Zealand owing to her six-season stint portraying Xena the warrior princess. But Pavlovich noticed only Palmer. She’d watched her TED talk, “The Art of Asking,” and was fascinated by the cult-famous feminist writer and musician – by her unabashed self-assurance.

That's the babysitter, by the way. Her casually walking around with Lucy Lawless makes me laugh and makes Auckland seem so small.

I didn't know Gaiman was so gross. making these women lick piss of his hand? forcing them to eat feces and vomit off his penis? sick fuck.

by Anonymousreply 117January 13, 2025 2:54 PM

It's very weird that all the powers that be in the shaping of public opinion seem to be ignoring the allegations against Gaiman. Ittook months before industry sites like Deadline covered it and only on th Gaimans projects getting cancelled.

It pays to be a straight white male trans worshiper.

by Anonymousreply 118January 13, 2025 4:03 PM

The Vulture article goes into considerably more detail about the CO$ angle, and while they can't be "blamed" for his own serial depravity, it at least explains why his actions are so utterly warped.

-------------

Gaiman has rarely spoken about a core fact of his childhood. In 1965, when Neil was 5 years old, his parents, David and Sheila, left their jobs as a business executive and a pharmacist and bought a house in East Grinstead, a mile away from what was at that time the worldwide headquarters for the Church of Scientology. Its founder, the former science-fiction writer L. Ron Hubbard, lived down the road from them from 1965 until 1967, when he fled the country and began directing the church from international waters, pursued by the CIA, FBI, and a handful of foreign governments and maritime agencies.

David and Sheila were among England’s earliest adherents to Scientology. They began studying Dianetics in 1956 and eventually took positions in the Guardian’s Office, a special department of the organization dedicated to handling the church’s growing number of legal cases, public communications, and intelligence operations. The mission of this office, as Hubbard wrote, was its “covert use in destroying the repute of individuals and groups.” On the side, the Gaimans ran the church’s canteen, lodged foreign Scientologists in their home, and opened a vitamin company in town, where they supplied courses of supplements for Scientology’s “detoxification” programs, a business that grew exponentially alongside the expansion of the church. By the late ’60s, David was the church’s public face and chief spokesperson in the U.K.

It was a challenging job, to say the least. The U.K., following the example of a handful of other governments, had issued a report declaring Scientology’s methods “a serious danger to the health of those who submit to them.” Hubbard would routinely punish members of the organization who committed minor infractions by binding them, blindfolding them, and throwing them overboard into icy waters. Back in England, David gave interviews to the press to smooth over such troubling accounts. The church was under particular pressure to assure the public it was not harming children. In his bulletins to members, Hubbard had made it clear that children were not to be exempt from the punishments to which adults were subjected. If a child laughed inappropriately or failed to remember a Scientology term, they could be sent to the ship’s hold and made to chip rust for days or confined in a chain locker for weeks at a time without blankets or a bathroom.

In his book Going Clear, Lawrence Wright recounts the story of a 4-year-old boy named Derek Greene, an adopted Black child who stole a Rolex and dropped it overboard. He was confined to the locker for two days and nights. When his mother pleaded with Hubbard to let him out, he “reminded her of the Scientology axiom that children are actually adults in small bodies, and equally responsible for their behavior.” (A representative for the Church of Scientology said it does not speak about members past or present but denies that this event occurred.)

According to someone who knew the Gaimans, David and Sheila did apply Scientology’s methods at home. When Neil was around the age of the child in The Ocean at the End of the Lane, the person said, David took him up to the bathtub, ran a cold bath, and “drowned him to the point where Neil was screaming for air.”

Mommy didn't rescue him from daddy and everything that was done to him, so he punishes women for it now.

I'll bet the girls look like mommy did when she was young, too.

Gross old man.

by Anonymousreply 121January 13, 2025 4:29 PM

I really enjoyed his books. I think Neverwhere is my favorite. Not anymore.

by Anonymousreply 127January 13, 2025 5:58 PM

This is one of the most comprehensive and long articles I have ever read- It is stunning. Amanda Palmer sounds like a real piece of shit not STOPPING these woman from entering this piece of shits orbit when she knew full well what a shitcunt he was. I do feel for her being bled dry in the divorce but overall its damning.

This man should be beyond cancelled and he should truly be in jail.

Highly recommend everyone read this.

by Anonymousreply 128January 13, 2025 6:13 PM

I thought he was just preying on younger, more impressionable women, but he even went after his 54-year-old property caretaker when she was vulnerable and going through a divorce. The stuff about engaging in kinky sex acts with his kid in the room was a new detail to me. He is a sick puppy.

by Anonymousreply 129January 13, 2025 6:22 PM

It's amazing how being a trans ally helps you get away with this shit. People on Twitter acting like this story doesn't exist.

by Anonymousreply 130January 13, 2025 6:27 PM

R130- This is someone who should be next level cancelled- I am very surprised at his "durability".. Its sickening. The person who wrote this article deserves a pulitzer or whatever the fuck a top honor is in digital media.

by Anonymousreply 131January 13, 2025 6:35 PM

R129, he’s a sex addict. And before anyone gives me shit about calling him a sex addict, I want to make clear that sex addicts who do not seek professional help and are allowed to run amok like this for decades, oftentimes do NOT seek explicit consent, and will engage in shit like subjecting people to rough sex without asking (the ones who pay for sex will definitely do shit like this), and have no problem with engaging in sex or assaulting people in front of their small, non verbal children.

by Anonymousreply 132January 13, 2025 6:37 PM

R132 - I think you are right. But can someone be a sex addict AND a predator? I think so. Just based on his actions, he an addict and also scum.

by Anonymousreply 139January 14, 2025 3:18 AM

Damn this is fucked. Dude had groupies and could have dicked down all the hot women he wanted with complete consent, and clearly his wife had no problem with that either. I completely understand and can relate to being a lustful dog. How you can stomach sexual activity with someone who doesn't want it or isn't into you? It's sadism or at least total detachment from empathy. It's the same cold state of mind that allows someone to beat you or stab you or take your money. It's crazier than people think and even this ugly fuck had hot women wanting him so he didn't need to do this even given that Palmer is a dog.

by Anonymousreply 140January 14, 2025 3:24 AM

He gets off on hurting and forcing them, obviously. He doesn't want the ones who want him. That's not degrading enough for him.

He's revolting.

by Anonymousreply 141January 14, 2025 3:39 AM

Obviously the abuse these women suffered is the main story here, but it just occurred to me that ALL his creative output through the years – which is quite substantial – will now be reinterpreted and forever associated with a sadistic mind.

I know a couple of people who were hugely impacted by The Sandman comics back in the day and it's probably safe to say they're in soft mourning right about now.

R210. The nanny claims that Amanda Palmer told her 14 other women had come to her with similar stories. That’s not the same as Amanda Palmer actually proven to have said that. I’m not saying it didn’t happen but I feel like Gaiman is being instantly judged because it’s now automatically #MeToo “ Believe All Women”. Some woman lie, some don’t tell the whole truth. My question to to video creator at R241 would be, "Would Neil Gaiman have attempted to do to you what he did to those women?" The answer is clearly no, so maybe re-think your criticism of JK Rowling. Sex is real, and sex matters.

by Anonymousreply 242January 18, 2025 2:00 PM

part of him was INSIDE her. it counts!!!

by Anonymousreply 243January 18, 2025 2:04 PM

[quote]R241 One of the leading geek trannies has denounced him. It’s over.

As long as it isn’t one of those tacky second or third tier ones, then okay.

by Anonymousreply 244January 18, 2025 3:57 PM

R241 When a man wears makeup and women's clothing, he is perceived as unstable by most people. It's impossible to take him seriously.

by Anonymousreply 245January 18, 2025 4:12 PM

Does this also apply to women wearing pants and having short hair?

by Anonymousreply 246January 18, 2025 8:55 PM

R246 No.

by Anonymousreply 247January 19, 2025 4:14 AM

Obviously not r246

by Anonymousreply 248January 19, 2025 4:18 AM

Why exactly though? (Not the same poster who asked that.)

by Anonymousreply 249January 19, 2025 4:20 AM

R249 Usually, women who wear pants and/or have short hair are not trying be men. They are just women wearing pants and/or having short hair.

by Anonymousreply 250January 19, 2025 4:49 AM

r250 So a guy wearing a kilt and has long hair would be banned even though he's not identifying as a woman? Why the double standard either way? You see the problem with policing this stuff?

by Anonymousreply 251January 19, 2025 4:54 AM

R250 I'm not banning or policing anything or anybody.

People should wear whatever they want and live their lives however they want. I don't give a fuck.

Wear a kilt. Wear your hair however you wish. I care not.

Men are not women. Women are not men.

by Anonymousreply 252January 19, 2025 5:03 AM

R252 It's obviously double standards.

by Anonymousreply 253January 19, 2025 5:06 AM

R253 Men and women are different. They are not the same. A man cannot become a woman and a woman cannot become a man.

by Anonymousreply 254January 19, 2025 5:15 AM

No. You're saying that women can wear pants and have short hair and that's fine. But that men can't have long hair and wear skirts/dresses. Double standard!

by Anonymousreply 255January 19, 2025 5:20 AM

It really is basic common sense.

by Anonymousreply 256January 19, 2025 5:22 AM

Who?

by Anonymousreply 257January 19, 2025 5:22 AM

R255 I don't make the rules. Just playing the game.

People can wear whatever they want. Once they start to look too crazy they lose credibility.

by Anonymousreply 258January 19, 2025 5:28 AM

Yes, people can wear what they want and there are people like you with blatant double standards showing prejudice towards them for it. Men should be able to have long hair if they want. Men should be able to wear skirts if they want. Why do you allow women having short hair and wearing pants but judge men for the equivalent?

by Anonymousreply 259January 19, 2025 5:31 AM

Such bruised male entitlement R259.

by Anonymousreply 260January 19, 2025 5:36 AM

R259 I don't care how people dress or wear their hair.

When people appear insane I assume they are.

There is no double standard.

by Anonymousreply 261January 19, 2025 5:40 AM

R260 Funnily enough I'm not even a man. This just doesn't make sense to me.

by Anonymousreply 262January 19, 2025 5:40 AM

R261 But you obviously DO care how people dress and wear their hair!

Appearing insane? For doing the equivalent that women do - wearing pants and having short hair which you accept. Men having long hair and wearing skirts is insane to you? Really? How does that make sense?

by Anonymousreply 263January 19, 2025 5:43 AM

R263 Most people make value judgements based on appearance. It is human nature, and it won't change.

by Anonymousreply 264January 19, 2025 6:14 AM

If you're someone who has strong opinions about what someone else chooses to do with their bodies and/or how they choose to present as they move through the world, then you are stepping out of bounds. Like sexual preferences, same sex couplings, abortion, etc., it's none of your fucking business. Stay in your own lane. Cleanup your own house first. Stop trying to regulate/control other people's choices. That's the same tactic as trying to force-feed religious dogma onto someone. Get over your arrogant assumptions that your individual perspective or opinion even matters with regard to the path others choose for their lives.

by Anonymousreply 265January 19, 2025 3:21 PM

Oops, wrong thread, oh well.

by Anonymousreply 266January 19, 2025 3:22 PM

Nobody is saying men can’t wear dresses, etc., but doing so doesn’t make them women.

by Anonymousreply 267January 19, 2025 3:32 PM

We're not talking about traditional men's garb, like kilts or sarongs. It's clothing made for women, and hairstyles that resemble women's hairstyles.

by Anonymousreply 268January 19, 2025 3:56 PM

R268 do you even realize how much you (and so many others here) sound like antiquated fussbudgets? Ye gods, get a grip

by Anonymousreply 269January 19, 2025 9:07 PM

You say that like it's a bad thing.

by Anonymousreply 270January 19, 2025 11:17 PM

R265

I can say what I want to. You can wear what you want to.

If you dress like a clown, people will laugh.

Amos spoke about the accusations in an interview.

by Anonymousreply 273January 20, 2025 1:45 PM

There was an interesting post on another forum arguing that Neil married Amanda because he saw her as a younger version of Tori, whom he could never get.

by Anonymousreply 274January 20, 2025 2:29 PM

What did he do to Tori Amos? I'm too lazy to click link

by Anonymousreply 275January 20, 2025 2:44 PM

Tori Amos is pretty. Amanda Palmer is fugly with ridiculous drawn on eyebrows

by Anonymousreply 276January 20, 2025 2:45 PM

R275, he didn't do anything to Tori. They became close friends in the early 90s. He's the godfather of her daughter. Early in her career, Amanda Palmer faced (possibly unwarranted) accusations of being a Tori Amos tribute act. The post I'm talking about suggested Neil was actually fixated on Tori all along and married Amanda because he saw her as the next-best thing. It doesn't seem impossible.

by Anonymousreply 277January 20, 2025 3:17 PM

R10 So what if she lost her job--as a nanny--for complaining about being sexually assaulted by her employer? Couldn't she have been looking for a new job as a nanny? Was there only that one nanny position to be had?

by Anonymousreply 278January 20, 2025 3:28 PM

I have been a huge fan of Tori's since 1998- Not as much now as her voice is utterly shot, and she is waayyyy too manufactured/surgeried/plastic these days..

I will say that she is utterly heartbroken over Neil. I would say that she is mourning the man she thought that she knew.

by Anonymousreply 279January 20, 2025 3:43 PM

Good job derailing this thread by the faux-naïf troll btw. Yes, men can have long hair. Gaiman's still a pervert.

by Anonymousreply 280January 20, 2025 4:02 PM

Do you know her personally, r279?

by Anonymousreply 281January 20, 2025 5:21 PM

R281, Hell no- I met her a few times at Meet & Greets back in the day- that is it.

You can tell from that interview that she is in shock. Shellshocked.

And that was prior to this insanely thorough new article came out..

I believe that this article quelled any doubts in her mind.

by Anonymousreply 282January 20, 2025 5:30 PM

Gaiman described Palmer as an ugly butch lesbian when they first met, so that is not Tori in any way.

by Anonymousreply 283January 20, 2025 6:41 PM

R275 Because Tori Amos has spoken out about sexual assault, a number of people are expecting her to come out publicly against Neil Gaiman.

by Anonymousreply 284January 20, 2025 6:53 PM

Neil looks like an ugly butch lesbian himself, so I guess he would know.

by Anonymousreply 285January 20, 2025 7:43 PM

From r273 article:

[quote]I ask Amos how she felt when she first heard the allegations. “Shocked,” she says. A long pause. “And if the allegations are true, that’s not the Neil that I knew, that’s not the friend that I knew, nor a friend that I ever want to know. So in some ways it’s a heartbreaking grief. I never saw that side of Neil. Neither did my crew. And my crew has seen a lot.”

[quote]She says it’s devastating for the women involved, and I ask if she has listened to the podcasts. “No,” she says. “But I’ve read …” She looks as if she’s about to cry. “He’s godfather to Tash.” Her eyes well up. She struggles to contain herself.

[quote]”I haven’t publicly said anything because: what do I say? I didn’t hire the nannies. I wasn’t there. I’ve never met these people. And I’ve never received a letter – of the thousands of letters I’ve gotten in 33 years – I’ve never received anything that was about Neil, except praise for his work and how much his work meant to people. That’s all I ever knew.”

[quote]Does she feel the world has improved, generally, for women in the 30 years since RAINN began? “No,” she says bluntly

by Anonymousreply 286January 20, 2025 8:01 PM

MARY!

I mean

TORI!

by Anonymousreply 287January 21, 2025 12:28 AM

[quote] [R10] So what if she lost her job--as a nanny--for complaining about being sexually assaulted by her employer? Couldn't she have been looking for a new job as a nanny? Was there only that one nanny position to be had?

She was a homeless lesbian who had never sex with a man. She wasn’t a nanny, she was a couch surfing young adult who Amanda picked up off the street with the offer of work.

by Anonymousreply 288January 21, 2025 4:09 AM

R278 is that supposed to be satire?

by Anonymousreply 289January 21, 2025 5:25 AM

Well, I agree that there are plenty of other live-in au pair jobs she could have got that would actually pay her as well. If not there, abroad (she wished to travel). It's clear that she was awed by Palmer and Gaiman's fame.

by Anonymousreply 290January 21, 2025 5:28 AM

It’s not sexual harassment if you could just go find another job. Men have needs and that includes bosses

by Anonymousreply 291January 21, 2025 5:33 AM

[quote] It’s not sexual harassment

But it is sexual harassment. So, the rest of your comment is null and void.

by Anonymousreply 292January 21, 2025 5:47 AM

R291 are you an employee or an employer? Would you really accept that behavior? It's not professional.

by Anonymousreply 293January 21, 2025 5:56 AM

[quote] Gaiman described Palmer as an ugly butch lesbian when they first met, so that is not Tori in any way

It’s called negging. And it worked.

by Anonymousreply 294January 26, 2025 6:14 AM

[quote] So a guy wearing a kilt and has long hair would be banned even though he's not identifying as a woman? Why the double standard either way? You see the problem with policing this stuff?

The problem is that you are basing your conclusion on the idea that all skirts are womenswear and all long hair is feminine.

I think you are being deliberately obtuse for the sake of argument. Kilts in Scotland, sarongs in the Pacific and various robes in Africa and the Middle East are historically worn by men.

Long hair and unstyled is worn today by men as a sign of individuality and non-conformity by men of all political stripes: artists, hippies, rock stars, wrestlers, wild men in the woods.

These clothes and this hair worn by these men particular men in these ways indicates masculinity.

Men who wear bias cut satin slips, pink Juicy Couture hoodies, M.A.C. Russian Red lipstick, white stilettos and a long ratty Korean wig cut into layers are indicating they are not masculine.

I don’t care how people choose to dress either way. But don’t pretend that how someone chooses to wear doesn’t have implications about how they want the general public to consider themselves.

by Anonymousreply 295January 26, 2025 6:20 AM

Negging is puzzling to me. I would never fall for that shit.

by Anonymousreply 296January 27, 2025 4:18 PM

It's not considered good sexual etiquette for a man to unexpectedly shove his fingers into a woman's holes.

by Anonymousreply 297January 27, 2025 4:31 PM

He likes for them to suffer; he doesn't care about etiquette.

[quote] So what if she lost her job--as a nanny--for complaining about being sexually assaulted by her employer? Couldn't she have been looking for a new job as a nanny? Was there only that one nanny position to be had?

R278, If you had bothered to read the incredibly compelling and heartrending article at R125 you would have the big picture. This young woman came from a violent, abusive home. She was seeking some kind of belonging. She was also a fan of Amanda Palmer's prior to meeting Amanda and being swept into Amanda's world as a "friend" and then as a nanny. If you had done your due diligence and read something - anything - before making your glib, offhand remark, you would understand the context and the order of events as they unfolded, along with the reasons this young woman may have had to talk herself out of recognizing Gaiman's sexual abuse of her as actual abuse. There is also something called "trauma bonding." It's a bit like Stockhold Syndrome, where you feel a strange bond with your abuser and it can take time way from them, and lots of therapy, to start to recognize that what you experienced was not mutual, but was, in fact, abuse. I want to tell you that you are a lazy, callous piece of shit, but somehow I think you already know that you are, and that you don't care.

by Anonymousreply 306February 4, 2025 12:35 AM

These two are so fucked.

by Anonymousreply 307February 4, 2025 1:35 AM

You can’t blame Dream for this fucking nightmare, Neil.

by Anonymousreply 308February 4, 2025 1:49 AM

by Anonymousreply 309February 4, 2025 5:15 AM

Someone should put together a comprehensive list of all the shitty things Amanda Palmer has done over the years. Neil hid his scumbaggery well, but she has always been a real piece of work. Still, I thought she was just incredibly annoying, not a Ghislaine Maxwell-esque sex trafficker.
