We are watching the episode of "Girls" where Hannah uses coke. She's acting like lots of characters who use coke in tv and movies: amped UP. Is that how it actually is?
What is taking cocaine like?

I tried it many times and it didn't do a thing for me. But everybody's different; what feels good to you might make someone else freak out. Me, personally, I loved heroin.

I only did it once in college and it didn't do a thing to me. Never had the desire to do it again.

I did it 2-3 times. The post nasal drip was a deal breaker for me.
I did get the high, but it was too expensive, and just not worth the trouble.

I never knew what to do with myself when I had all that energy. I preferred MDMA.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | July 2, 2024 1:26 AM |
I had to do it a few times before I realized why people enjoy it. By the time you realize why people enjoy it, it's too late.
Here's my response to an old thread, which might give some insight:
They are both uppers, but in my experience the high is quite different. With coke, I felt like the smartest, best-looking, sexiest guy in the room. My confidence increased five-fold. It's like a feeling of narcissistic euphoria. It also allows you to drink endlessly without feeling or appearing drunk, and (in my case) also makes you want to chain smoke. But it also transforms you into someone fiendish and selfish and the high starts to wear off within thirty minutes. The night consists of many trips to the bathroom to do more lines.
I remember starting to feel anxiety even when I still had a little coke left because I was anticipating the comedown. The high wore off once mid-sentence. It was that abrupt. And the coke comedown is awful. The body high lasts longer than the head high and you just lay in bed awake and extremely depressed for hours. The depression is almost indescribable.
In the words of an eldergay trying to get me to stop that shit: "Coke will eat you alive."
I did MDMA alone. If coke induces euphoria, MDMA induces bliss. Everything in the world seems better, beautiful, sublime. I listened to music; each song was the most beautiful song I'd ever heard. I know a lot of people have sex on MDMA, but I had no interest: I could not fathom feeling any better than I already did just sitting on the couch. And it's hard to describe, but you do "roll" when you're on it. When I finally went to bed I couldn't sleep. But unlike coke, the MDMA head high lasted a long time. I laid in bed, awake, and felt the happiest insomnia I've ever felt in my life.
Regular coke use made me irritable and depressed when I wasn't using. In the end it wasn't worth it.
Can't speak for regular MDMA use, but if I had to choose one to do again (it's been 12 or so years since I did either), I would pick MDMA hands down.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | July 2, 2024 1:33 AM |
I've never tried it. Ingesting street drugs bought from criminals holds no appeal to me.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | July 2, 2024 1:53 AM |
r17's experience with coke was the same as mine. I only did it twice and the comedown is AWFUL. Just awful. The depression is hard to describe. I've never been a clinically depressed person and both times after I did coke the next day was hideous, I was so depressed it was scary. After the second time, I swore off coke and I've never touched it again.
It's such a bullshit drug.

I did it at most 5 times. The initial feeling of euphoria was great but 8 minutes later I was hit by an intense feeling of anguish/depression that signaled I had to take more to feel good again. I could clearly see how people got hooked on it but that cycle wasn't for me.

r32 I'm r17 and also bipolar. I think the high I got from amphetamines like Ritalin or Adderall was closer to hypomania/mania than the coke high. The coke comedown depression is worse than any bipolar depression I've experienced, and I've been seriously depressed most of my life.

My college suite-mate used a wax postage stamp envelope to transport some coke, and then replaced the stamps and put it back on my desk in our dorm. I went to mail something and licked a stamp from that same envelope, and my entire tongue and jaw went numb. It felt exactly like Novocaine used by the dentist. It really scared me because I was afraid I might accidentally chew off the tip of my tongue in my sleep, so I stayed awake all night.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | July 2, 2024 11:09 PM |
To me doing coke for the first time was suddenly realizing that I had always been tired, all my life (except for short periods of hypomania because I'm team BIPOLAR too!). That may sound great and it is great for like half an hour but you also have to realize that from that moment there's a choice that needs to be done: to either leave it forever with the constant reminder that something is missing (the effortlessness) and that you are now incomplete, or keep living with the cocaine and the effortlessness that comes with it knowing that the habit will consume and destroy you, sooner or later.
Doing coke for the first time and then shortly afterwards deciding to stop using because you feel the pull and you get a sense that it's best to have a head start in those matters, felt like getting to know my best friend and my soulmate and then ghosting him because you only ever feel complete and happy when he's around despite the knowledge of the fact that... he has already...

I never got that amazing coke high that people, including some of the posters here, talk about. The one where you feel so sexy and intelligent and wonderful. All coke did for me was make me want more coke and I couldn't stop talking. I just rambled on and on all night. And then there was the next day where I felt like total shit and horribly depressed. I didn't like it at all.
Different people have different reactions to the same drugs, I guess.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | July 3, 2024 12:36 AM |
Depends on how good the coke is and what it's mixed with.
It makes you super horny, sometimes.you get a raging erection. Sometimes you can't get hard. Helps to be versatile.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | July 3, 2024 12:41 AM |
I did it a bunch at college in the 80s. We were close enough to NYC and kids were rich enough and connected enough that you could use a dorm phone to find a supply. Great highs, wonderful parties. But, like a few others on this thread, I realized that when I was waking up from a wonderful party the night before and my first thought was “I need a line,” it was time to stop. I feel lucky that a) I got to do that in the 80s before fentanyl and b) it was that easy to quit.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | July 3, 2024 12:52 AM |
It seems I had a more adventuresome youth than most. I couldn't even hazard a guess how much blow I've done: that was an off-and-on thing for close to 20 years, though I've never used it regularly. For some reason I never got a hangover from it, but OTOH it usually fucked up my sleep patterns for a couple days afterwards. Yep, the euphoria as described above is accurate, but I cringe to think at all the times I had "diarrhea of the mouth" from chatting nonstop. On the down side, I always suffered from coke dick, and if I was planning to hook up, I had to plan in advance & bring along a Viagra just in case.
Perhaps oddly, the only variety of a cocaine derivative that "did nothing" for me – as some early posters noted for cocaine – was crack! I only tried it once, and felt literally nothing from it.
Also did plenty of MDMA, now known as "molly." Did it once during Covid lockdowns, actually. (A friend had an extra, and we were bored.)
Others: basically every well-known benzo at some point. Adderall & Ritalin. (Not together.) Ambien & Lunesta. (Ditto.) Pot & shrooms. (Sometimes together.) Oxy, both -codone & -Contin. At least a dozen of opioids, all less strong than oxy.
The two that were always on my OH HELL NO list were heroin & LSD.
Youth isn't always wasted on the young. :-)
by Anonymous | reply 49 | July 3, 2024 12:53 AM |
Interesting about LSD, r49. I think I would do it at least once. Mushrooms scare me more than LSD.
Several years ago, in Canada, I smoked some dank weed. That shit was STRONG. It was one of the most intense experiences I've ever had -- and I imagine close to what an LSD trip would be like.

It never amped me up. However, it did open me up socially. I'm an introvert and after a couple of bumps, I was talking to EVERYBODY. I felt relaxed almost euphoric. It helped me socially, so that was the out I gave myself. HOWEVER, the next morning... scratch that...the next TWO mornings, my ass was laid OUT. It was worse than any hangover. I called in sick a few times, but my days off were wasted on recovery.
I never let it get out of hand, but I just got tired of the aftereffects, so I quit.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | July 3, 2024 12:03 PM |
I didn’t use it a lot and had good experiences mostly but I know it’s instant asshole powder. Made the decision five years ago to never use again.

it causes acute mania basically. you become a chatterbox who is easily excited by any idea and find yourself suddenly coming up with all these plans and goals that you have the utmost confidence in. you can't eat, food is like chewing sand. when it wears off you experience nightmarish despair and irritability for several hours.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | July 3, 2024 1:00 PM |
I enjoy being sober, but I was at a party once where they ordered cocaine and nearly everyone else was having it. I don't know about them being depressed, but I was never so bored in my life. People who had been quite interesting before were suddenly tedious drones who obviously thought their every word was genius. So. Not.
In short, if you want to take coke, please do it with other coke-takers and don't inflict yourself on others.

by Anonymous | reply 61 | July 3, 2024 3:07 PM |
You can drink more alcohol when you're on coke. Coke is a good club drug. You can switch off between coke and alcohol and the party lasts longer.
Coke doesn't always cause chatterbox behavior.
I've done coke somewhere between 10 and 20 times. Long time ago.
It's probably a drug I would have enjoyed all by myself, but I was usually with others when I did it.
If you're depressed, it would probably make you feel better for a while.
Like any other drug, the first rush is always the best. Thereafter, diminishing returns, and it fucks up your sleep schedule.
The chirping birds in the morning (when you've had no sleep) is horrible.

I once read, "Cocaine will make you feel like the President of the United States for fifteen minutes. Crack cocaine will make you feel like God for five minutes."

[quote]I would never take anything from the street today -- including pot -- because of Fentanyl.
Cupcake, pot is legalized and sold in dispensaries in over half of the US and all of Canada. It's also been largely decriminalized in most larger cities, and those in the know can tell you all about Delta-9 and THCa. I'm not sure if even *one* person has died from smoking fentanyl-laced weed. (And why on *earth* would it have any in the first place? It's added to heroin and pills because it's in powder form and less expensive than opiates. Nobody ever "sprinkles" anything on weed.)

Almost 20 years ago now when I was 30 I met this hot "straight" guy on a gay site. He was deeply closeted but when he was horny he'd want to hook up, mostly I serviced him. He would take breaks and go to the bathroom and a lot but I was naive and didn't understand. Finally I realized he was snorting coke.
After a few hookups he brought a plate from my kitchen to my bedside table and did his coke there. After a while of sucking him my energy was low and I stopped to take a break. Unbeknownst to me he rubbed a bit of coke on his dick and had me suck it. My energy came back so quickly and we went at it again. My the end of the session my lips were numb and chapped from all the sucking.
Eventually he would put a small piece in my mouth and have me go down on him. He would snort but I never did, and it was always at his direction. However after afew sessions when he legit went to the bathroom I snuck a piece since I wanted that buzz. He would only ever want to mess around when he was getting fucked up. Eventually he started asking me to help with the cost, and I admit a few times i did.
One time after a particular hot and heavy (and long) session when I had a few hits I remember feeling like shit afterwards, and the next day. Also my heart had been racing. I soon moved away and only saw him once after that (we did the same routine but by then he had put on 20 lbs and it wasn't as sexy).
When we first started messing around he was a sexy guy, a few years younger ,about 5'8, 140, with a toned smooth body. He had a 6 pack and loved it have me between his legs sucking his cock and balls and feeling his abs. He was not always into recip but after a snort he would also suck and rim me.
Crazy times for me, looking back I'm glad it never went into further. To this thinking about how it made me feel gets my heart pounding.

I'm in the same boat as R1, R2 and R26. It did not produce a "high" or any other noticeable effect for me (other than icky taste in the mouth and numb gums) whatsoever. And I was never the one paying for it, so you can't say that I got ripped off. I'm pretty sure I was on antidepressants at the time, could that be a factor?
I did absolutely FUCKING love molly tho. Fun shit!!
