I love Impossible Burger pre-sliced patties. They’re so unami!

by Anonymousreply 1June 22, 2024 4:27 AM

^umami

by Anonymousreply 2June 22, 2024 4:28 AM

[bold]Wow. Amazingly UN-funny[/bold]

And the redhead girl's delivery during the pre-vid commercial? Yikes. Super pretentious. Like, on-purpose phony because she's so above it all.

And it they think people are gonna care about fake meat being overly-processed, well I guess they have no knowledge of the actual meat industry.

Skip thru various pats of the vid I linked, then go to the 2-min mark and watch the last 30 seconds - especially the very end.

To each their own, and you do you, R1. I had a different experience. I've only tried Impossible once, at a Qdoba. I didn't like it. Impossible tastes to me like canned dog food smells. And it wasn't Qdoba's fault, either. Except that they thought it would be a good idea to put it on their menu. I typically just stick with black bean burgers, and other similar recipes which I make in bulk.

But I'd try the other one..."Beyond". Has anyone had that? Is it any better than Impossible? Because it can't be worse.

by Anonymousreply 4June 22, 2024 9:27 AM

It's disgusting. Nobody eats it or wants to.

by Anonymousreply 5June 22, 2024 11:02 AM

I'm outraged!

I'm concerned!

I'm blasé!

by Anonymousreply 6June 22, 2024 11:09 AM

Impossible and Beyond both taste disgusting and are highly processed, which is unhealthy. If one of the reasons for being vegan or vegetarian is to eat healthier, then you should not be shoveling these down your pie hole!

Tofu is processed. I prefer that to the fake meats.

by Anonymousreply 8June 22, 2024 12:43 PM

Ick.

by Anonymousreply 9June 22, 2024 1:28 PM

R8 I actually saw some tofu in my local supermarket I thought about getting some but did ot.n

by Anonymousreply 10June 22, 2024 2:34 PM

First time I ever heard of tofu was in a Chinese place and I saw these weird white cubes floating in my soup. I tried one, loathed the texture and haven't touched it since. I dislike mushrooms for the same reason. Odd texture and not enough flavor to overlook it.

Fried/deep fried tofu is usually awesome.

Of course, deep fried anything is usually awesome and I try to avoid those foods. Tofu, though...

Deep fried Tofu, a large Japanese salad, no rice = heaven.

I guess I’ve singled out the Impossible brand, which btw I buy and prepare myself at home, usually broiled and eaten plainly, because I neglected to mention that its ingredients seemed limited to potato starch-thickening, and no adding of eg pepper, onion, garlic, or other such seasonings or marinade that could kill my GI tract with my acid reflux and GERD. So someone else’s Impossible or Beyond Burgers “pet food” tasting experience, could taste like “filet mignon” to a less options-blessed GI issues experiencing consumer (who can’t tolerate digesting meat products) like myself. But glad to know of these other delicious-sounding options to try that you other fellow posters are finding, enjoying and sharing about here. 😎👍

[bold]I avoid meat because factory farming is psychotic-torture on animals[/bold]

I don't care one iota if fake meat is processed or not-healthy. I'll eat it

I do eat meat my friends/relatives get via hunting and when I have the occasion to get some from small indie mom and pop farms - but behemoth factory farm stuff I avoid

You sound sheltered.

I am not vegan, but eat mostly vegetarian food. Cheese is my weakness.

Not all vegans / vegetarians are searching around for fake meats. I am not.

That said, I heard that Morningstar breakfast sausage is good.

by Anonymousreply 16June 23, 2024 6:43 AM

I've had vegan food a few times in late 2023.

It's good, but it makes me feel bloated. Don't know why.

by Anonymousreply 17June 23, 2024 7:09 AM

Hardly R15.

by Anonymousreply 18June 23, 2024 3:20 PM

I love the impossible ground beef

by Anonymousreply 19June 23, 2024 3:24 PM

A lot of the fake meats contain sugar, gluten, yeast, etc and don't seem too high in protein, which is part of the point of meat.

Pulses, nuts, seeds = all good sources of protein, some healthy fats in nuts and seeds, too. All have fibre.

If someone is craving meat, though, it's good that fake meat is an option.

I know a place to buy TVP by the scoop. Even though I don't often eat it, it's so cheap and high in protein. Apparently, there's more of that stuff than meat in meat pies.

They are hyper-processed with bad fats and glutens. They are the antithesis of healthy eating. If you want actually healthy veggie burgers, try Dr. Praeger's available in frozen section of many groceries. The majority of their flavor options are actually healthy alternative to beef .

As an experiment I bought a pack of the stuff at Kroger. It doesn't look like hamburger and it doesn't feel like hamburger but I have to admit when I fried it up and served it bare without spices or sauce it tasted like a decent burger.
