I'm Ronald Reagan. They worship me.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | June 21, 2024 7:04 AM |
Look everybody!
The two generations who grew up in to the prosperous post-WWII afterglow want to act like they're the toughest generations in American history.
Nevermind that that the Draft was removed for them. They had free and open access to abortion. They had some of the best housing and educational costs this country has ever seen. The Greatest generation and Silent Generation actually fought for them to have a better life than their Depression-era childhoods.
But they drank from a water hose. So they're real tough.

I don't have the DL troll thing activated, but are all these posts from the same stupid person?
I can't believe how rotted some GenZer's and Millennial's brains are. They go to take a swing and fall on their face. And aren't some of them in their 40s now? Scary.
Nevermind that that the Draft was removed for them.
R7 really? Ever hear of the Vietnam War? The one where Baby Boomers were getting drafted left and right to go off and die? Almost 60,000 dead? The one where you had a number and you had to wait to see if yours was called to know if you were going to go off and die?
The stupidity...

ok, R10... It was just less than half of 71 million people. Or 35 million men... My bad. The Baby Boomer generation started in 1946, so every single man of age in 1969 was eligible, every single family in America was effected. My dad had a number, but thank god, it never came up. My Uncle's did and he went. He's 77 now and still fucked up and on drugs from the VA hospital. So, there's that...
I am a GenXer, and even though we had disagreements with Boomers, I never once remember having the audacity to denigrate the experiences of the previous generation, especially my gay elders - because my generation was a front-row witnesses to, and we weren't shielded from, their pain.

It was being done way before them. But of course you wouldn't know this because your generation is painfully unaware of most things that existed before a certain point. But at least these artist did it with with an edge, an actual point of view, and left us with great music. AND NOT in a Talbots sweater set and culottes thinking they're on the forefront and breaking gender barriers. I see some of these kids out and about dressing on the softer side of Sears and think, that would be so much more affective if it weren't just so fucking tacky. Another defect of your generation is that you don't know how to properly read someone without resorting to "fucks" and insults. It's something gays used to excel at and were known for. I don't even know why there is a Wit/Wisdom option anymore - because that is definitely proving to be a relic.
OH, I see. You're gonna bring up TRANS. What a classic move!
There are Trans people and there are Attention Whores. 90% of the current generation claiming to be trans are the latter. Although Boomers and GenX do belong to the subgroup 'Everyone Who Is Older Than Millenials,' there is a huge difference. Boomers were brought up knowing that by dint of their sheer numbers at each stage of life, everything was geared to revolve around and benefit them.
As for GenX, there were two weeks in 1993 when all of the advertising was directed at us, and that was all we got.

by Anonymous | reply 72 | June 23, 2024 9:33 AM |
R72 The Baby Boomers and Gen X started it.
We, millennials, will end it.
by Anonymous | reply 73 | June 23, 2024 9:36 AM |
R70 itās human nature, I never said it was good. And I never said itās impossible to overcome.
One of the things Iāve learned as Iāve gotten older, to make life a bit easier, is understanding whatās in our nature and what isnāt - to know when you have to work harder to overcome our nature and when to just go with it.
For example monogamy isnāt in our nature, but itās something we can choose to live by - it takes more work than just giving into our human desires.
Bigotry and hatred is as well. We arenāt born hating certain people, that we learn - but the impulse is preset into us as a survival mechanism. Obviously you can overcome it, but it takes work and again, not giving into our basic nature.
If you really want to know human nature, watch a baby who will scream and cry when its needs arenāt being met and hit another baby over the head and take its toy. Thatās a human being.
by Anonymous | reply 74 | June 23, 2024 9:37 AM |
R74 perhaps you should teach Baby Boomers and Gen X to hate the younger generations less?
by Anonymous | reply 75 | June 23, 2024 9:40 AM |
R75 there is no hate. Itās your generation with its over-sensitivity that turns any dislike, any disapproval or disappointment into hatred. You feel if someone doesnāt agree with you they hate you. Or if something makes you uncomfortable, then itās wrong. Thatās just not the case. There have always been generational gaps in thinking. You guys just arenāt handling it constructively - only pointing out what doesnāt work over and over again without coming up with anything to make it work.
And yes, thatās on your generation to make it work now, not ours. Weāve already spent more than enough time during your formative and adolescent years bending over backwards to make sure yours was probably the most listened to, catered to, the most accommodated generation ever in the history of the United States. You grew up in a protective bubble that unfortunately has left you with very unrealistic expectations about what life in the real world looks like - mostly that no one really cares how you feel when it comes to their own lives. Now take of that what you will and get on with your lives instead of blaming others. You too are getting a little too long in the tooth for such childishness.

Itās really hard to respect a generation that was too lazy to even come up with its own genre of music to reflect its angst or a symbol of its rebellion. Boomers had Rock ān Roll that changed the world, Xers rap, hip hop and grunge. Where is their Crossfire Hurricane or Light My Fire? Where is their Smells Like Teen Spirit or Fuck the Police? What music did millennials have that wasnāt created FOR them? Of course, again, that wasnāt their faultā¦š

And to stop infantalizing yourselves and using words like āAdultingā as if itās something you do rather than become.

by Anonymous | reply 101 | June 23, 2024 3:43 PM |
Like it seems with everything these days, there is major misconception about how and why Boomers and Gen X are maligned. It's not that there is abundant bad behavior, tribalism, and we-got-ours-fuck-the-rest-of-you-ism in Boomers and Gen Xers; it's that it's on one side of the political aisle, namely and specifically Republicans (now known as MAGA Trumpers). It scares me when I look at my peers and realize they hate me and the people I love whether same generation or younger. And I don't know where the hatred came from because I look at my parents and their peers in the Greatest Generation and I see people who sacrificed everything for their kids, from fighting fascism and Nazism to creating a society that worked for everyone (if ever so briefly), and then watched their children take advantage of it and then destroy it for the next generation. And that goes for everything beyond the first real social safety net in the world, the idea that if you went off to fight in a war you deserved the spoils of victory, the belief in a fair wage for a day's labor... nope, conservative/GOP Boomers and now Gen X tell us that we should have to work into old age, that corporate profits are the holy grail [italic]and[/italic] the only measurement of success, and that life ā once outside the womb ā is worthless, particularly if that life is black or brown, female, gay, or not straight white Christian and male in any and every way.

by Anonymous | reply 108 | June 23, 2024 10:37 PM |
OP is really torqued and has posted 36 of the posts here.
by Anonymous | reply 109 | June 23, 2024 10:42 PM |
Being ignorant isn't cute. But it does explain your anger and trolling.
by Anonymous | reply 110 | June 23, 2024 10:42 PM |
So what r109? Are you triggered?
Not a single day goes by where the Boomers and Xers are just laughing, laughing, gleefully punching down on Millennials and Gen Z in several threads.
But the one time someone actually returns the favor, OH NO!!! It's too much. You can't handle it? Who are the snowflake generations now?
by Anonymous | reply 111 | June 23, 2024 10:46 PM |
R103 if we survived Sociopath Boomers and Gen X, we will survive the children just fine.

I bought my house for less than 200k and now it's worth over 600k. My mortgage is $1200 a month for a 4b/2b with a pool in a nice neighborhood.

R111
ā you canāt handle itā :-)
Oh my you are confused with people making fun of you and people that canāt handle you. You are just someone to have fun with. Your threads are hardly important. And you donāt trigger anyone.

Something tells me OP is cosplaying a disgruntled Millennial. His retorts don't have the voice of someone claiming to be his age. They just sound stupid. Next he'll recall being in the third grade listening to Britney Spears during his internet class.

At least Boomers and X'ers aren't afraid of work. The Mils and the Zils have given us "silent quitting" -- how about calling it what it is: "stealing my paycheck". These saboteurs should be exposed and blacklisted wherever they're found.

āQuiet Quittingā is not dishonest or dishonorable. It just means you do your job and leave, without over extending yourself.
It has always existed.

I'll be the ENDLESS whining about how it was so much better and easier to be gay 30 years ago.

OP, it's clear that with climate change, late-stage capitalism. the rise of the oligarchy and christian nationalism. the corruption of the Supreme Court and the disengagement of youth, your life will be a living hell. You have my sympathies.

R120 Whatever Boomer. I'd still rather be my age than yours.
by Anonymous | reply 121 | June 24, 2024 7:48 PM |
OP sure is a bitter person. Life must suck for them.
by Anonymous | reply 122 | June 24, 2024 7:51 PM |
OP will never own a home or be able to retire. No wonder he's bitter and looking for a scapegoat.
by Anonymous | reply 123 | June 24, 2024 8:50 PM |
I will be the "I can still chew, even though I've got only ten teeth left"

R123 think again. Your assumptions are funny
by Anonymous | reply 125 | June 24, 2024 9:01 PM |
Most the overwhelmingly vast majority of mature sane people would never start a thread like this. But there are a small few on DL that canāt seem to stop. I wonder what drives people who constantly start these attack threads?
by Anonymous | reply 126 | June 24, 2024 9:24 PM |
The odd thing about this thread is that OP doesn't actually identify anything about the Boomers or Gen X that he dislikes.
Drinking from a water hose is no big deal. I did it. I wouldn't do it now, because it's probably unsanitary. But I don't remember thinking it was anything great.

Nobody is scared of no 50 60 70 year olds. You might break a bone at this point.

Iām Gen X, have always voted blue, and I much prefer the younger generations. I think they will save our country. I canāt wait for more of them to serve in public office. So much of my generation has become so depressingly and hopelessly conservative.
by Anonymous | reply 131 | June 25, 2024 12:03 AM |
R121, we all had your age. It'll last as long for you as it did for us.
by Anonymous | reply 132 | June 25, 2024 3:57 PM |
r131, I'll admit that my generation's (X) distaste for political life early on carrying over to now is disturbing. Matt Gaetz, Pete Buttigieg, and AOC are all WAY more compelling political figures than anyone in my generation.
by Anonymous | reply 133 | June 25, 2024 4:01 PM |
R131 the crazy thing is that Gen X has remained relatively Blue given that people tend to swerve more conservative as they get old. And to be honest, I think this younger generation will be more conservative than anything else - especially the white ones when they are living in America where white people will noticeably no longer be the majority, not just on paper but in their everyday lives. They be grasping onto Make America Even Greater Again.
I always marvel how the MOST politically leftist, activist generation in America's history, the Boomers, has become so conservative. The hippies, the free-lovres. If they can become conservative, anyone can. I mean in what world would we ever imagine Rosanne Bar would be a republican? My mom wouldn't even let me watch her show growing up because of it's ultra liberal message.
by Anonymous | reply 134 | June 25, 2024 4:04 PM |
I wonder who conservative GenZ is, they come out to rallies pretty happily about social issues, but then again, I live in a liberal coastal "bubble"
by Anonymous | reply 135 | June 25, 2024 4:09 PM |
GenX is the toughest though. The divorce rate peaked in 1980. A ton of kids' parents were divorced as they were crashing out from '69 or disco madness among other societal shifts. The latch key kid thing is real.
by Anonymous | reply 136 | June 25, 2024 4:15 PM |
totally, it defines us more than any other thing besides the baby bust which happened world-wide
by Anonymous | reply 137 | June 25, 2024 4:16 PM |
I was a latchkey kid for sure. When I look back on it, it was crazy how young I was doing the things I did. My parents were divorced. My mom worked. My older brother went to a different school than I did. Was in the third grade, 8 years old, making my own breakfast and watching my Mom and bro leave as she drove him to school. I would get all my stuff together, lock up the apartment and walk to school by myself. I would come home by myself, throw my backpack in the corner and watch Benson and SOAP reruns on TV until I heard my mom come home and I would pretend to be busy doing school work. But there was something a tad scary for a kid my age coming home to an empty house. And I do remember in the beginning starring out the window while they left and crying feeling all alone.
