Did everyone miss the Daily Mail's story about Carolyn Bessette Kennedy and how shallow she supposedly was ?

The author of that new book is the DM columnist mentioned in the article, and her research methods seem impeccable:

JFK Jr didn't realize Carolyn was such a coke fiend until almost a year into their marriage. He assumed she was just an occasional dabbler. John liked his women to be strong, but she turned controlling and demeaning. They had a fight a few weeks before the crash and he was living in a separate apartment. Up until that fateful day he was still on the fence as to whether or not their marriage was going to work or not.

That is a good point, R3. I know that we're supposed to be in awe at her exceptionality just because she married JFK Jr, but she was one of the most unremarkable women in history. Plain, boring and mediocre, her only contribution to society was wearing a night slip dress for her wedding and being idolized by Carrie Bradshaw wannabes.

I'll never understand why someone so irrelevant would be the object of so much admiration just because he married a rich boy whose greatest achievement in life was being a member of the Kennedy clan.

I’ve read a lot about her and she seems…fun! She comes off as smart, funny and a good friend. When she married JFK, she spiraled. Got paranoid—hated the press and isolated instead of dealing with them. Ramped up her drug use. Seemed to feel trapped in the marriage.

I always assumed that she was a superficial mean girl. But after reading about her, she seems pretty cool.

Bottom line: they were both good/kind people who probably would have divorced and gone on with their lives.

She was still fucking Michael Bergin after marrying JFK, Jr.

And yet Callahan depicts her not only as a harridan, but one who was deeply manipulative with previous boyfriends to the point of cruelty.
